We rejoice with you in the decision you made to surrender your life to Christ! What a beautiful and life-changing choice, one that brings true peace, purpose, and joy. The Lord has begun a good work in you, and He will be faithful to complete it (Philippians 1:6).
Your concern about returning to college is valid, and we want to encourage you to seek the Lord’s will in this matter with an open and prayerful heart. The lack of peace you’re feeling could indeed be the Holy Spirit guiding you away from something that may not align with God’s plan for your life right now. The Bible tells us, "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God" (Romans 8:14). If you’re sensing unease, it’s worth pausing to ask the Lord what He would have you do instead.
However, we also want to gently caution you about the relationships you mentioned, and . If these are romantic relationships, we must address whether they align with God’s design for your life. The Bible is clear that believers are called to marry only other believers: "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). If these relationships are not with fellow Christians or if they involve sexual intimacy outside of marriage, they are not honoring to God and could be a source of spiritual conflict and unrest in your life.
If you are in a season of courtship, it should be with the goal of marriage to a godly spouse, not merely dating for companionship. The Bible warns against fornication (sex before marriage) and adultery (sex outside of marriage), calling believers to flee from sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18). If these relationships are not leading you closer to Christ or are causing you to compromise your faith, it may be time to surrender them to the Lord as well.
We encourage you to spend time in prayer and fasting, asking God to reveal His will for your education, your relationships, and your future. Seek wise counsel from mature believers who can help you discern the Lord’s direction. Remember, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Let us pray with you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts for the work You are doing in ###’s life. Thank You for drawing them to Yourself and for the joy they have found in You. Lord, we ask that You would give them clarity and peace about their future, especially regarding college and their relationships. Reveal Your will to them in a way that leaves no doubt, and give them the courage to follow where You lead.
Father, if there are relationships in their life that are not pleasing to You, we ask that You would break any unhealthy attachments and give them the strength to walk away. Help them to seek a spouse who loves You and will encourage them in their faith. Guard their heart from temptation and lead them into purity and holiness.
Lord, if college is not Your plan for them right now, show them what You do have for them. Open doors of opportunity that align with Your purpose, and give them peace in whatever You call them to. We trust You to guide their steps and to complete the good work You have begun in them.
In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord diligently. If you’re unsure about college, consider taking a step back to pray and seek counsel before making a decision. If these relationships are not honoring to God, ask Him for the strength to let them go. The Lord has a perfect plan for your life, and as you surrender every area to Him, He will lead you into abundant life (John 10:10). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, and He will direct your path.
