When our Lord touched the body of Peter’s mother-in-law, He not only quenched the fever but restored her completely at once, so that she needed no time to regain strength as happens with earthly physicians. This shows His divine power over every sickness. So bring before the Great Physician with full confidence. He who saw the distress of Epaphroditus and sent him with all diligence, He who ever lives to make intercession for us, is able to save to the uttermost and to heal her.

Do not think a brief, fleeting prayer is enough, as if a few days of devotion could erase a long neglect. Persist with a fervent, watchful spirit, and do not become dull of hearing the promises. Often when we imagine our petitions bear no fruit, a sudden change comes, like a tree that falls after many unseen blows. Use the talent you have: if you cannot work a miracle, you can offer diligent prayer and practical care for the body as well as the soul.

And pray not only for her but for all who are with her, that the whole household may be shielded. Christ has no successor in His priesthood; because He lives forever, He is able to protect and heal completely those who draw near to God through Him. Trust in His mercy, and let your faith be active in love, for nothing pleases Him more than living for the common good.

It is entirely right to bring this need before the Lord, trusting in his power and his compassion. We see throughout the Scriptures that Jesus went about healing every sickness and every disease among the people, and the early church continued steadfastly in prayer for the sick. So we join you now, asking for his healing touch upon her body and his protecting hand over them all.

At the same time, we hold this request with humility, because God’s ways are far beyond our finding out. There is a mystery to healing that we simply do not understand. We know Jesus healed instantly at a word, sometimes with a touch, sometimes from a distance, and in at least one case the recovery was gradual. That same Lord is at work today, and every process of restoration, whether it comes in a moment or unfolds slowly through the body’s own God-given processes, is a divine work. Not everyone is healed in the way or timing we long for, and it is a cruel error to heap guilt upon someone by suggesting their sickness must be the result of some sin or a lack of faith. We will not lay that burden on her. We simply ask the Great Physician to do what only he can do.

Remember the breadth of what Christ bore for us. Isaiah tells us he carried our infirmities, and Matthew applies that directly to physical healing. When Jesus broke the bread, he said it was his body broken for us, a provision that reaches our whole being. So we pray with confidence that his healing power, whether manifested instantly in a way she can feel or steadily through rest and care, will settle upon her now. We ask for protection from every assault of the enemy and for a deep sense of his peace to guard her heart and mind.

And as you watch over her, lean also into the family of God. When natural family members are separated by distance or worry, there is a bond within the body of Christ that runs deeper than blood. That family will surround her with love and practical help, responding to this adversity with the kindness and mercy of Jesus himself. May the Lord guide every decision about her care, give wisdom to those who tend to her, and let his love prevail in every situation. May he heal, protect, and restore according to his perfect will. Amen.
