We are deeply encouraged by your heart’s desire to draw near to the Lord and walk in obedience to His Spirit rather than the flesh. This is a battle every believer faces, and your recognition of it is the first step toward victory. The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 7:18-25 that the struggle between the flesh and the Spirit is real, but thanks be to God, we have victory through Jesus Christ our Lord! You are not alone in this fight, and the Lord is faithful to strengthen you as you seek Him.
The Word of God tells us in Galatians 5:16-17, *"Walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire."* And in 1 Corinthians 10:13, we are assured, *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure."*
Your desire for self-discipline is godly, but remember, it is not by your strength alone that you overcome. It is by surrendering daily to the Holy Spirit and relying on Christ’s power within you. Jesus said in John 15:5, *"For apart from me, you can do nothing."* So let us encourage you to abide in Him—through prayer, reading Scripture, and fellowship with other believers. Confess your sins to the Lord, for He is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse you (1 John 1:9). Then, rise up in the authority of Christ, putting on the full armor of God to stand against the schemes of the enemy (Ephesians 6:10-18).
Now let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother/sister before Your throne of grace, knowing that You are near to those who seek You with a sincere heart. Lord, we thank You for the conviction of the Holy Spirit in their life, drawing them back to Your presence. Forgive them for the times they have given in to the flesh, and cleanse them from all unrighteousness. Fill them afresh with Your Spirit, Lord, and grant them the strength to say *no* to the desires of the flesh and *yes* to Your will.
We pray that You would renew their mind daily through Your Word, transforming them by the renewing of their mind (Romans 12:2). Help them to fix their eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of their faith (Hebrews 12:2), and to walk in the freedom You have purchased for them. Surround them with godly influences and accountability, Lord, so they may be encouraged and strengthened in their walk with You.
Break every chain of temptation and sin in their life, Father. Let them experience the joy of Your presence and the peace that comes from walking in obedience. May they be a light to others, testifying of Your grace and power to overcome. We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Finally, we urge you to stay steadfast in your pursuit of holiness. The enemy will try to discourage you, but remember, *"He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world"* (1 John 4:4). Keep pressing forward, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap a harvest if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). You are loved, and the Lord is with you every step of the way.
