We lift up your son and this painful situation before the Lord, knowing that He sees all things and is sovereign over every heart. The betrayal of discovering that his girlfriend has been living a double life is deeply wounding, and we ask God to bring healing, wisdom, and clarity to your son during this time. The Scriptures remind us in Proverbs 3:5-6, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* This is not a time for your son to rely on his own emotions or reasoning but to seek the Lord’s guidance with all his heart.
We must also address the nature of their relationship. If they are not married, this situation reveals the dangers of emotional and physical intimacy outside of God’s design for marriage. The Bible is clear that relationships between a man and a woman should be pursued with the intent of marriage, under the authority of Christ, and in purity. Fornication and deceit have no place in the life of a believer, and we urge your son to examine this relationship through the lens of Scripture. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 warns, *"Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."*
If this young woman claims to be a believer, her actions are not in alignment with the fruit of repentance and faithfulness that should mark a follower of Christ. Matthew 7:16-20 tells us, *"By their fruits you will know them. Do you gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree produces good fruit; but the corrupt tree produces evil fruit. A good tree can’t produce evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree produce good fruit. Every tree that doesn’t grow good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them."* If she is unrepentant or continues in deceit, your son must prayerfully consider whether this relationship honors God or if it is leading him away from righteousness.
We also notice that the name of Jesus was not invoked in this request. There is no greater name or authority by which we can approach the throne of God. Acts 4:12 declares, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* It is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and it is in His name that we pray and find hope. If your son does not yet know Jesus as his Lord and Savior, we urge him to turn to Christ in repentance and faith, for apart from Him, there is no true peace or direction.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this young man who is hurting and confused. Lord, You see the betrayal and the pain he is experiencing, and we ask that You would be his Comforter and Guide. Give him the strength to forgive, not for the sake of the one who wronged him, but for his own freedom in You. Father, we pray that You would expose any sin in his life or in this relationship that does not honor You. If this young woman is not walking in Your truth, we ask that You would either bring her to repentance or sever this tie for Your glory and for his protection.
Lord, we pray that Your will would be done in this situation. If this relationship is not of You, give him the courage to walk away and trust You for a godly wife in the future—one who loves You with all her heart and walks in integrity. Remind him that Your plans for him are good, and that You are preparing him for a marriage that reflects Christ and the Church. Help him to guard his heart and his body, fleeing from any temptation that would dishonor You.
Father, if this young man does not yet know You, we pray that this trial would drive him to the cross. Open his eyes to see his need for a Savior and lead him to place his faith in Jesus Christ alone. Let this be a turning point where he surrenders his life to You and finds his identity in You rather than in any earthly relationship.
We rebuked the spirit of deceit and confusion in Jesus’ name. Let truth prevail, and let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Strengthen him to walk in obedience to Your Word, no matter the cost. We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
