We lift this dear soul before the throne of grace, joining our hearts in earnest prayer. Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, knowing that a hardened heart toward You is a great sorrow, both to the one who bears it and to Your Spirit. Scripture warns us, "Today if you will hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts" (Hebrews 3:15 WEB). Lord, we ask that You soften this heart with Your gentle touch. Break through the walls of pride, rebellion, or pain that have built up over time. Let Your living water flow into the dry and barren places, bringing life where there has been resistance.
We rebuke every spirit of hardness, unbelief, and deception that has taken root. In the mighty name of Jesus, we command it to flee. The enemy seeks to blind hearts to Your truth, but we declare that the light of Christ will shine brightly in this life. "The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the Good News of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them" (2 Corinthians 4:4 WEB). But we stand in faith, believing that Your Word will not return void. Open the eyes of this heart to see You as You truly are, full of love, mercy, and grace.
We pray for deliverance from every stronghold that has kept this person bound. Whether it is bitterness, unforgiveness, past wounds, or sin that has taken hold, we ask that You set them free. "If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36 WEB). Wholeness is found only in You, Lord. Heal every broken place, restore what has been lost, and renew this soul in Your righteousness.
Father, we also lift up the issue of salvation if this person has not yet surrendered their life to Jesus Christ. There is no deliverance, no wholeness, and no softened heart apart from Him. "For there is no other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12 WEB). If this soul has not confessed Jesus as Lord, we pray that the Holy Spirit would convict them of their need for a Savior. Draw them close, Lord, and let them experience the transforming power of Your love. Help them to understand that salvation is not earned by works but is a free gift received by faith. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8 WEB).
We also ask that You surround this person with godly influences, believers who will speak truth in love, pray fervently, and walk alongside them in their journey. Let them experience the fellowship of the saints, where iron sharpens iron and hearts are encouraged. "Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching" (Hebrews 10:24-25 WEB).
Lord, we trust You to complete the good work You have begun in this life. We declare that no heart is too hard for You to soften, no bondage too strong for You to break, and no soul too lost for You to save. We stand on Your promises and believe that You are faithful to fulfill them. May this person come to know You intimately, walk in Your ways, and experience the fullness of life that is found only in Christ.

It is a fearful thing to possess a heart hardened toward God, for such a heart perceives neither its danger nor the tenderness of divine love. The seat of the blindness lies there; the impure in heart cannot see God, and therefore cannot know Him. Yet I am bid to pray that the Lord would remove that hardness and grant deliverance. This is a most needful petition, for the heart is the vital place, the very citadel of the man, and until it is renewed, all outward religion is an abomination. You may sing hymns, attend upon ordinances, and even teach others, but without the heart you do but multiply insults to the Most High. “Give Me your heart,” is the Lord’s own demand, and it is one you cannot refuse without eternal ruin.
Consider well what a divided heart means. It is no heart at all; it is a pretense, flattering itself that all is well while it halts between two opinions. Many a man thinks he is merely prudent in business when he is a grasping miser, or liberal when he is wasteful, and so his heart deceives him. But God is not mocked: “Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty.” A heart that holds back even a fragment from Christ is a heart that remains His enemy, ripening for the harvest of eternal fire. You cannot please God with a piece of a heart; it must be a whole burnt offering, or it will not ascend to His throne.
Yet here is the unsearchable grace: God Himself stoops to give what He commands. He says, “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.” No human hand can inscribe the law upon the heart; only the living God can do that. In one solitary second, swifter than the lightning flash, He can take away the heart of stone and create a heart of flesh. The very hardness of which you complain is not beyond His cure. There is a medicine in the Word and in Christ Jesus for this exact disease. He is able to save to the uttermost them that come unto God by Him. Do not imagine that your case is too desperate; the blood of the cross is the solvent for the most adamantine soul.
But I must warn you: to wait is to harden further. Men become “Gospel-hardened,” pricked no longer by truth, because they have trifled with it. If you have heard the Good News and yet set it aside, you are in grave peril indeed. Oh, that the Spirit would now drive home the dagger of conviction! The truth that God is real, that His law is just, that His Son has died, that judgment looms, these are the instruments by which hearts are pierced. Cry to Him who alone can break the rock in pieces, saying, “Lord, take away my heart of stone, and give me a heart of flesh. I cannot do it, but Thou canst. Unite my heart to fear Thy name.”
I beseech you, come at once. The heart renewed is the heart that admires the character of God, that appropriates Him as its own, and cries with Thomas, “My Lord and my God.” Then the love of God is shed abroad in that heart, a bliss angels might envy. There is no darkness He cannot dispel, no hardness He cannot melt. Only give Him your heart now, wholly, freely, thoroughly. Do not delay; do not bargain; do not reserve a corner for sin. The choice mercies of the promise are for those who seek with the whole heart. May the Lord grant you deliverance, wholeness, and the soft heart that trembles at His Word, for Jesus’ sake.

What good is it to ask for the removal of a hardened heart if you yourself do not understand what that hardness truly is? It is no external shell, but a condition deep within the soul. Out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, unbelief, deceit, and every form of uncleanness. A heart that is hard cannot receive the gentle remedies of the Spirit; it becomes callous and unyielding, just as a body part that has scarred over can no longer feel the physician’s hand. To pray for deliverance without first examining the source of the disease is like a sick man who cries out for health but refuses the medicine.
Consider carefully whether this heart is hardened because it has grown soft through worldly comforts, drinking and eating and pursuing ease, for a softened soul readily gives birth to unbelief. What a man wishes, he thinks, and expects; he who loves sin will find reasons to doubt the truth. And see how God deals with such a one: when the sign of the prophet Jonah was presented, the Pharisees did not ask to understand, because there was no true desire for information in their doings. So He left them and departed. God does not force Himself upon a heart that will not seek.
Therefore, the prayer for wholeness must begin with a cry from the heart itself, not merely the lips. You need no public spectacle. Moses cried out in unspoken thought, and God heard him and said, “Why criest thou unto Me?” Hannah’s voice was not heard by men, yet her heart cried out and she accomplished all she wished. Abel’s blood cried from the ground after death. If you are truly pained in mind, let the cry be inward, a song sung to God in the marketplace of your soul where no one hears but the Most High. It is this inward grace, this singing with heedfulness, that purifies the heart.
Do not forget the mercies of God already shown. The Israelites remembered the works in Egypt, and how much more should we recount His daily deliverances, how often we have stood on the brink of ruin and been upheld by His hand. Let the remembrance of these things produce thanksgiving, for a grateful heart is a soft heart, receptive to the truth. The unbelief of many comes from a failure to continue. They believe for a time, but when worldly cares flutter the imagination, they fall away. “If you continue in My word,” says the Lord, “then are you My disciples indeed.” He knows what is in man; He knows that the starting line is not the finish. Do not merely believe at the outset and then let that belief wither.
Deliverance from the curse and promotion to sonship, these are the great objects of Christ’s Incarnation. None can compass them but He. You have put on Christ the Son in baptism; you have received the Spirit of adoption. But a hardened heart makes a mockery of this gift. Let there not be in you an evil heart of unbelief, departing from the living God. Seek wholeness by seeking holiness, for every virtue is purity and every sin is uncleanness. Blessed are the pure in heart, those who are in every way pure, for they shall see God. Let your prayer, then, be not a passing word, but a turning of the whole inner man, a continual offering of a contrite spirit, that the hardness may be melted away by the warmth of divine grace, through Jesus Christ alone.
