Prayer to break strongholds in marriage

Your prayer in the night has been heard, and the sorrow you carry for your marriage and your family is not hidden from God. You have come honestly as a hurting wife, asking for His power to restore what has been wounded, and that humility is the right place to begin.

God has given marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, a mystery that reflects Christ and the Church. Scripture teaches that the wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives, and that this bond is not to be broken lightly. If separation comes, the call is to remain unmarried or to be reconciled. Within this covenant, husband and wife belong to one another, to honor one another, and to keep themselves for one another alone. Every other union, and all sexual life outside this covenant, falls short of His design.

The influences you named are real dangers to that covenant. Adultery and impurity often enter through what we watch and what we allow before our eyes, through habits that seem small at first and then sever husbands from wives and homes from peace. Pornography, deception, addiction and the encouragement of those who would divide a home are not small temptations. They are snares that must be turned from with repentance and with a firm choice for virtue, orderliness and reverence for God.

For your part, continue to seek the kind of beauty that endures. Gentleness, meekness, propriety and quiet strength do more to win and to heal than outward display or sharp words. Even when a husband is confused or hardened, a wife who walks in piety, who prays and commits her household into the hands of Christ, honors God and gives her husband the clearest invitation to return to clarity and faithfulness. Do not withdraw from the marriage to pursue another, but pray, remain faithful, and seek reconciliation as God works.

Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, through whom alone is salvation, I place this wife, her husband, their home and their two little daughters before You. You know every detail, every wound, every silence and every tear shed in secret. I ask You to protect this husband wherever he is. Keep him from deception, from pornography, from addiction, from harmful habits and from every influence that does not come from You. Visit his heart. Grant him godly conviction, clarity, wisdom and understanding to make choices not for selfish desire but for the blessing of his family and the unity of his marriage. Bring repentance where there has been sin, and heal what has been broken. Restore love and respect between husband and wife according to Your will. Guard this marriage from those who would divide it and from every temptation to sinful desire. Shield this home and lead it in Your guiding path. Strengthen this wife to trust You in her pain, to remain steadfast in virtue and prayer, and to know that nothing is impossible for You. I surrender this family into Your hands and ask for Your divine intervention, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Continue to bring your marriage before the Lord daily, asking Him to be present in it as He was invited to be present from the beginning. Seek the counsel and prayer of faithful believers near you, stay rooted in Scripture, and trust His timing to do what only He can do to renew and strengthen what has been weakened.

Your honest and humble prayer reflects a heart that is hurting yet still trusting God to do what only He can do. He sees every detail you mentioned, every wound, every quiet silence, every tear shed in secret, and He knows the story of your home and your marriage and your two little daughters.

The Scripture reminds us that there is a real spiritual battle that we cannot see with our eyes. Jesus Himself faced a time of temptation and confrontation with the powers of darkness in the wilderness for forty days, and the angels came and ministered to Him there. He understands temptation from the inside, and because He understands, He is able to help those who are tempted. You are right to recognize that some of what is standing against your peace and joy is spiritual, and to ask for God's protection and intervention.

God's design for marriage from the beginning is that two become one. It is a compound unity, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and what God has joined together is meant to be guarded. In the resurrection we will be as the angels and marriage will be no more, but in this life marriage is a holy and precious union that reflects His faithfulness. That is why the enemy works so hard to bring deception, impurity, addiction, pornography, confusion and outside influences to divide what God made one.

The good news Jesus preached when He came into Galilee was the gospel of the kingdom, saying the time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand, repent. True hope for a marriage is not found in trying harder alone, but in turning, in repentance, in a real change of heart and direction. The sign of a genuine work of God is that change, the restoration that follows repentance. That is what to pray for and to seek for your husband, that God would visit his heart, grant godly conviction, clear away confusion, give wisdom to make choices not for selfish desire but for the blessing of your family and the unity of your marriage, and bring a love and respect that is renewed and strengthened according to God's will.

For yourself, keep watching and praying so that you do not enter into temptation, remembering that the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Jesus Himself prayed the same words more than once when His heart was burdened, so do not think you must find new words each time. Keep bringing the same sincere cry before the Father. He hears repeated, faithful prayer.

Join me in prayer now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we place this marriage, this husband, this wife, this home and these children into Your hands. Nothing is impossible for You. Protect this husband wherever he is, keep him from deception, from pornography and addiction and every harmful habit and every influence that does not come from You. Remove every temptation and every person or influence that would seek to wreck this home or lead him into sinful desires. Grant him repentance, clarity, wisdom and understanding. Heal what has been broken, restore what has been damaged, and strengthen this unity. Guard this wife's heart in the midst of pain, give her peace as she surrenders this situation to You, and let Your guiding path be clear for this family. We trust Your power and Your timing to restore according to Your will. Amen.
