Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We are joining you in prayer for your ### and for you in these difficult days. Thank you for bringing this burden before the Lord with honesty and love.
Scripture assures us not to despair even when sin weighs heavily, but to approach God entreating and beseeching Him for forgiveness. The psalmist says blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered, and that blessedness comes not by our own work but by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Forgiveness and life are given through the blood of Jesus shed for us, which is greater than all our failures. God does not merely remove punishment, He gives new life, and where sin abounded, grace abounded much more.
We also hear your prayer for your ### to remain mentally strong. The Lord said to Paul, My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Even in times of rebuke and consequence, God can use these hard circumstances to display His power and to draw a heart toward repentance and healing. Faint not when you are corrected, for God in His love allows such moments to awaken us, to make us more backward to sin in the time to come, and to call forth His lovingkindness.
Let us pray together. Father, we come to you through Jesus Christ alone, our only hope of salvation. We ask for your mercy and grace upon this ###. Forgive his sins for the sake of Christ, wash him clean, and grant him a true turning away from alcohol and from all that has harmed him and others. Give him willingness to accept the help he needs, humble him to receive counsel, accountability and treatment, and sustain him with clarity and strength for the days ahead as he faces what he has done. We thank you that no one was injured, and we pray he will take full responsibility for his actions while under the influence and learn to walk in sobriety and self control by your Spirit. Lord, guard his mind, keep him from despair, and let your grace be sufficient for him in weakness. Comfort his ### also, give wisdom, peace and steadfast hope as you both trust in your love.
We encourage you to continue to walk beside him in truth and love, urging him toward godly help, pastoral counsel, and practical support for addiction, and to keep pointing him to Christ who alone can forgive and make new. God is able to bear up even the weakest vessel by His grace, and to make it strong against many trials. Keep seeking Him daily, asking for forgiveness and for power to live anew.
We will continue to pray that your ### finds forgiveness, freedom, and lasting strength in Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever. Amen.
