Disciple of Prayer
Asking for prayers for my son, ###. I pray he accepts the help he so desperately needs for his alcohol addiction. I pray for understanding for a huge mistake he made while under the influence. No one was injured, but they could have been. Please let him remain mentally strong enough to navigate the upcoming days. Jesus, please forgive him for his sins and grant him grace.

We join you in lifting up your son before the throne of grace and we thank you for bringing his need to us so we can seek God's will together in Jesus' name.

Our hearts ache with you as a parent watching a beloved child struggle with alcohol addiction. We know the fear and helplessness you feel, especially after the serious mistake he made while under the influence. We thank God that no one was injured, for His mercy was present in that moment, and we pray that this event will be the turning point that leads your son to accept the help he so desperately needs.

Scripture is clear about the danger of drunkenness and also clear about the hope of deliverance. Ephesians 5:18 says, Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. Alcohol addiction is not only a physical and mental bondage but a spiritual one, and it requires repentance, surrender, and the transforming power of Christ. Yet we also cling to the promise of 1 John 1:9, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. There is forgiveness and cleansing available for your son when he turns to Jesus with a repentant heart, and there is power to become a new creation, for 2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.

We also pray for his mental strength in the difficult days ahead. He will need courage to face the consequences of his actions with honesty and humility, and strength to walk through treatment and accountability. We pray for understanding from those affected and from those in authority, but we also pray that he will take full responsibility and allow God to use even this mistake for his good and for God's glory. Psalm 34:18 reminds us, Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, who alone is our mediator and our hope. We lift up this precious son to You. Lord, break the chains of alcohol addiction that bind him. Open his eyes to see his need for help and soften his heart to accept it, whether through godly counsel, a Christ centered recovery program, and the support of believers who will walk with him. Grant him godly sorrow that leads to repentance and grant him grace to turn from drunkenness and to be filled with Your Holy Spirit instead.

Lord, we thank You that no one was harmed, and we ask for Your mercy and grace as he navigates what comes next. Give him a sound mind and mental strength, guard him from despair, shame, and the lies of the enemy. Strengthen him according to Isaiah 41:10, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus as promised in Philippians 4:6-7.

We pray for forgiveness for his sins through the blood of Jesus, and we ask that You help him to confess and forsake them and to walk in newness of life. We also lift up his parent who is interceding for him. Grant comfort, wisdom, and steadfast faith to continue to love with truth and to set healthy and biblical boundaries while pointing him always to Christ.

We thank You, Jesus, for Your grace that is sufficient and Your power made perfect in weakness. We trust You to do a mighty work of healing and restoration in this family. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray fervently, to encourage your son to seek immediate help and to stay connected to a Bible believing church where he can find accountability and discipleship. Do not give up hope, for God is able to deliver and restore. Keep casting your cares upon Him, for He cares for you and for your son.

We have been praying for you and for your son , and we hear how much love and worry you are carrying right now.

It is such a heavy place to be grateful no one was hurt and at the same time shaken by what could have happened, and wanting so badly for him to accept help. We are glad you reached out. You are not alone in this, and your prayers for his willingness, his steadiness in the days ahead, and for grace and forgiveness matter deeply.

Addiction is complex and often takes more than willpower alone to turn around. When he is sober and calm, a gentle, brief conversation about one next step can sometimes open a door more than a long discussion about the past. If he is at all open, helping him connect quickly with a trusted pastor, counselor, or addiction treatment program and letting professionals guide what comes next can be a good way forward. It also helps to have support for yourself, whether that is a family support group like Al-Anon, a pastor, or a trusted friend, so you are not carrying this by yourself and you have wisdom for loving boundaries.

If he has not already, we would encourage him to see a medical or counseling professional soon for guidance, alongside prayer, especially as he faces stress and any consequences from what happened.

Father, we lift ### to You and ask You to draw him toward help and to give him clarity and strength for each day ahead. Cover him with Your mercy and forgiveness through Jesus, and give his mom peace, wisdom, and steady support around her as she loves him well. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your prayer as a parent has been heard with deep sympathy, and we join you in bringing your son before the throne of grace.

It is right and good that you ask Jesus to forgive him and to grant him grace, for there is forgiveness with God through Jesus Christ His Son. As the Scripture says, there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared. Where the offense has gone, from that very place the forgiveness comes, not by our strength or striving, but freely given of divine grace. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. If your son trembles with a penitent heart and desires forgiveness, let him know that though he may feel the chief of sinners, there is the chief of sinners forgiveness to be had even now through the blood of Christ, who died, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God. That forgiveness, when received by faith in Christ alone, is complete and eternal, an absolute oblivion of debt, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

We also pray with you that he will accept the help he so desperately needs. The Lord in His mercy often brings down the heart with labor that we may see our need and fall upon His help, and He is gracious to set the captive at liberty. Pray that your son may be made willing in this day to lay hold upon the help offered, and to walk in repentance and sobriety, looking to Christ not only for pardon but for healing.

You have asked that he may remain mentally strong enough to navigate the upcoming days. All strength apart from God is derived strength and must come to an end, but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. Jehovah Himself says, I will strengthen them, and He increases strength to those who have no might. We pray that your son, and you also in this trial, may learn that little word, wait, to wait upon the Lord and to flee to His gracious promise, As your day, your strength shall be. True mental and spiritual strength is to be strengthened with strength in the Lord, to be borne up by grace and to find that God Himself is your strength and your song and has become your salvation.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, with whom there is forgiveness, we come through Jesus Christ alone, in whom alone salvation is found. We confess sin and our need of Thy grace, and we ask for this son who has stumbled under the power of strong drink. Grant him true repentance and faith to receive Thy free forgiveness. Forgive him for his sins for Christ's sake, and let him know the completeness of that pardon. Grant him grace upon grace, and give him willingness to accept help and to turn from that which ensnares him. In these coming days of consequence and temptation, be Thou his strength. Renew his strength as he waits upon Thee, sustain his mind, keep him from despair, and lead him into newness of life. And comfort this parent who loves him and intercedes for him, giving assurance that Thou hearest prayer and that Thy mercy is higher than our sins. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

May Father God help their son accept the help he desperately needs for his alcohol addiction, grant him understanding for his mistake, and keep him mentally strong in the days ahead. May Jesus forgive his sins and grant him grace, amen.
