Prayer Request

Your prayer for forgiveness and freedom is the very prayer God delights to answer, and He has already made the way for that answer in Jesus Christ.

When sin entered through Adam, a curse came upon humanity and upon the earth itself, bringing hard labor, pain, thorns and thistles. That curse is the judgment of God against sin. The good news of the gospel is that Jesus bore that curse for you. Scripture says cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree, and on the cross Jesus became a curse for us so that we could be redeemed from the curse of the law. Even the crown of thorns pressed on His brow was a sign of this, He was wearing the mark of the earth's curse in order to carry it away from you. In the new covenant through Jesus you are no longer under that curse, you are blessed in Him, and no power can successfully curse those whom God has blessed.

I also hear in your words the weight of guilt and the feeling that you must remain under punishment for your mistakes. Guilt often creates a hidden desire to be punished, and it is impossible to hide that guilt from yourself. Trying to cover it or excuse it only keeps it before you. King David discovered this when he tried to hide his sin. He said his sin was ever before him and that God's hand felt heavy upon him day and night until he stopped hiding and simply acknowledged his transgression.

Forgiveness does not come through justifying what we have done, it comes through confessing it honestly to God. And when God forgives, His forgiveness is total and complete, not like our partial human forgiveness. He says though your sins are as scarlet they shall be as white as snow. If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Forgiveness is as close as that confession.

There is nothing that removes the burden of guilt like coming openly to God, receiving His cleansing, and letting Him lift that heavy load. David prayed after his confession that God would let him hear joy and gladness again, that the brokenness inside would rejoice. That is what God wants for you as well. He not only forgives, He restores and then He instructs and guides you in the way you should go.

So bring your mistakes to Him plainly without excuse, trust that Jesus has already borne the curse for you on the cross, and receive His complete forgiveness by faith. You do not need to live under a curse or under condemnation. In Christ the curse is broken, the guilt is washed away, and you are made clean and blessed before God.
