Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart for your daughter. We are praying with you for her tryouts and for this whole season in her life.
Scripture reminds us how deeply God values daughters. In the ancient world girls were often overlooked and not even counted, yet God notices and names and cares for each one. Your daughter is not overlooked by Him. Her worth is not measured by whether she makes varsity, how many spots are open, or how her skills compare to others. She is fully seen and loved by her heavenly Father, and by you as her parent, and that love does not rise or fall with a roster decision.
We also see in Scripture young women faithfully doing ordinary work, like tending sheep day after day, and God using that diligence and faithfulness to shape their character and future. Your daughter's summer injury and the lost time to train and get in shape have been discouraging, but God has seen every bit of effort she has been able to give, the patience through recovery, and the desire to do her best. He is at work in that perseverance itself, not only in the outcome.
The teenage years also carry a deep need for friendship and belonging, and Scripture shows that desire for companionship among peers. Tryouts can feel so weighty because they touch on identity and acceptance. Praying that whatever the result, she will know she is secure in Christ and surrounded by healthy relationships that encourage her.
As a parent, your love and concern reflect something of God's own heart. Scripture shows the deep love and even grief a father can feel for his only daughter, and how a parent is so deeply affected by what touches his child. God understands that ache and that hope you carry for her, and He invites you to bring it to Him.
We are praying for complete healing and strength for her body, for peace over any anxiety as she tries out, and for wisdom and fairness for the coaches making decisions. We are asking that she would be able to do her best with freedom, without fear, and that she would trust the Lord with the result. If she makes varsity, that He would use it to grow her in humility, teamwork and stewardship of her gifts. If she does not, that He would guard her from discouragement, show her His good purpose in it, and open the right next steps for growth and joy. Above all we pray she will grow in knowing Jesus, finding her confidence and hope in Him rather than in performance.
May the Lord give you both peace as you trust Him with this, and may He use this time to draw her closer to Himself and to show her how faithfully He cares for her.
