Prayer request for a woman that met a pastor

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Prayer request for a woman that met a pastor. He left his clothes with her. When they were traveling and in motels. To get to his country. They were in her suitcase. He stuck them in there and now they are in her room still. She doesn't know what to do with his clothes. They lived together at his home. His parents are pastors. She asked him what he wanted her to do with all his clothes. She needs prayer. She isn't a pastor. He hasn't responded about what to do with his clothing. When he needs prayer he asks her for prayer when his country needs urgent prayer. While his clothes still remain with her. She doesn't want to keep his clothes for him anymore. She doesn't understand his country ways of why man leave their things with women. He is Indian. From India.

We have heard your request concerning this woman and this pastor and we take it before the Lord together. We are concerned by several things you have shared and we want to address them with truth and love from Scripture.

You shared that they lived together at his home and that they were traveling together and staying in motels. We must speak plainly about this. Living together and traveling together as if married when not married is not in alignment with God's design. Scripture is clear that sexual intimacy is reserved for marriage between a man and a woman. Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. Hebrews 13:4. Also, Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18. For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4. If there was any fornication or the appearance of it in living together and sharing motel rooms, we urge repentance before God. If ye confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. God calls us not to courtship that mimics marriage, but to courtship with the goal of godly marriage to another Christian believer. Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. Genesis 2:24. We also note that a pastor is held to a high standard. The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching. 1 Timothy 3:2. A man who is a pastor should be above reproach and should not place a woman in a compromising situation or leave her to carry his personal belongings indefinitely.

Concerning his clothes being left in her suitcase and now remaining in her room, we understand her confusion and her desire to do what is right. It is not a biblical or cultural requirement for a woman to keep a man's clothes as a sign of commitment or obligation, regardless of his country or background. What belongs to another should be returned in an honorable way, and boundaries should be kept. We encourage her to no longer hold on to what is causing entanglement. We advise that she send one final clear and kind message to him stating that she will return the clothes by a specific means or make them available for pickup by a specific date, and if he does not respond or make arrangements, she should donate or properly dispose of them and free her home and her heart from this tie. To continue to store his belongings while he remains unresponsive yet contacts her only when he wants prayer for his country is not healthy and can keep an ungodly soul tie alive. She can pray for his country and for him without keeping his possessions. Don't be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14. This applies to any relationship that is not moving toward a clear, godly, committed marriage between believers. If this man is not pursuing her biblically toward marriage, she should not remain in a holding pattern for him.

We also noticed that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, we are saved. We encourage this woman to place her full trust in Jesus Christ for forgiveness, guidance, and wholeness, and to bring every decision before Him.

We pray together for her now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear woman to You. Lord, You see her confusion, her kindness, and her desire to do what is right. We ask You to forgive where there has been sin and to cleanse her and restore her in purity and peace. Give her wisdom to set godly boundaries and courage to no longer carry what is not hers to carry. Show her clearly what to do with these clothes and help her to close this chapter with grace and truth. If this relationship was not honoring to You, break any unhealthy tie and lead her into wholeness in You. We pray for this pastor as well, that You would convict him where needed, guide him to act responsibly and above reproach, and draw him to walk in holiness. We pray for his parents and his country, that Your will be done there and that Your name be glorified. Lead this woman to a godly local church where she can receive wise counsel and accountability, and if it is Your will for her to marry, prepare for her a godly husband who will love her as Christ loves the church and pursue her in purity toward marriage. Grant her peace, discernment, and joy as she seeks You first. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We hear how tiring this has been for you, holding onto someone else's belongings in your own room and not getting a clear answer about what to do. It makes sense you would feel stuck and ready for closure, especially when the communication has felt one-sided.

It can help to see this as a boundary question. Your home and your space are yours to steward, and it is reasonable to decide what you will and will not hold onto for someone else. Being caring does not mean staying responsible indefinitely for another person's property, especially when you have already asked clearly what he wants done.

A simple next step that often brings peace is to send one brief, kind written message that creates a clear ending point. You could let him know you will no longer store the clothes, give a specific date a couple of weeks out, and offer two options, for example that he can arrange a pickup or pay for shipping, and that after that date you will donate or discard them. Keep a copy of the message and, if possible, have a trusted mature friend or pastor aware of the plan so you are not carrying this alone. Then follow through on that date, even if he does not reply.

We are praying for you.

Father, we bring this sister to You and ask for wisdom and peace as she seeks to close this chapter well. Give her clarity, protection, and confidence to care for her home and heart in a healthy way, and lead her steps forward. In Jesus' name, amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

Your request has been heard and brought before the Lord with care, and we hear in it both weariness and a sincere desire to do what is right.

There is a burden in keeping what belongs to another when the tie that placed it in your hands has become unclear and painful. To have lived together as you describe, to have traveled together and shared a home outside the covenant of marriage, is not the way of holiness to which Christ calls His people. Scripture teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that intimate life and the sharing of a home in that way belong within it. We do not say this to condemn you, but because healing begins with truth, and because pardon and healing are joined together in Christ. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Your sins are forgiven you, showing that the soul's forgiveness and the heart's healing come from one hand.

You ask what to do with the clothes left in your suitcase and now in your room. It is right not to wish to keep them longer. To keep them is to keep a tie that holds the heart in confusion. You have already done what is kind and responsible in asking him what he wishes done with them. If he will not answer, you need not carry this burden indefinitely. We would counsel you to send one more brief, clear message, stating that you will hold them for a short and definite time, perhaps two weeks, and that if he does not arrange to collect them or pay for their return, you will donate or dispose of them. Keep a copy of your message. After that time, act as you have said and release them. You need not preserve them as a memorial, nor wait without end. To do so will help your own peace and give you space to seek the Lord without this lingering entanglement.

You mention not understanding why a man would leave his things with a woman, and whether this is a custom of his country. Whatever customs may differ between nations, the responsibility of a man to deal plainly and honorably with a woman is not changed by culture, and his office or parentage does not lessen that duty. That his parents are pastors and that he asks you for prayer when his country has need does not remove his duty to answer you plainly and to walk uprightly. It is right to pray for all nations, for all need the healing leaves of the tree of life, and the least thing about Christ is full of healing virtue, but prayer for a nation does not take the place of personal faithfulness and repentance. Do not let urgent requests for prayer keep you bound to a situation that leaves you unsettled and without clear care.

The Lord sees the broken heart, and He is the physician for such wounds. We very speedily care for bodily diseases, but the heart's wound is deeper and needs His hand alone. If there has been sin in this cohabitation, bring it simply to Christ in confession. He receives those who come to Him, forgives freely through His blood, and gives power to walk in a new way. His healing changes the life blood and makes the nature other than it was before.

We pray for you now, that you may know both forgiveness and healing, and be able to go in peace to your ordinary duties with a quiet conscience.

Our Father, we bring this daughter before Thee. Forgive her sins through the blood of Jesus Christ, cleanse her heart, and heal her wound. Grant her wisdom to act plainly and firmly regarding these clothes, and grace to set a boundary in love. Deliver her from confusion and from every tie that would hold her from holiness. Draw her near to Christ, let her find in Him pardon and healing together, and give her a settled peace that comes from walking in Thy way. Guard the man also, and bring him to truth and repentance where he has acted lightly. Let the healing leaves of Christ be for her healing, and let her henceforth go in peace, resting in Thy mercy. Amen.

We encourage you to share this burden with a faithful pastor or mature believer near you, that you may have counsel face to face and not walk alone.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this painful and confusing situation with honesty. It is understandable to feel unsettled when someone leaves personal belongings in your home and then does not respond, and when the history includes traveling together, staying in motels, and living together outside of marriage.

Scripture teaches that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and that sexual intimacy and sharing a home as a couple belong within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Living together and traveling as you described falls outside that good design. That does not mean you are beyond grace. God is merciful and ready to forgive and to heal when we turn to Him with repentance and faith, and He gives strength to walk in a new way.

It is also important to see this clearly. The fact that a man is called a pastor, or that his parents are pastors, does not by itself show that his actions are godly. A faithful shepherd will lead toward holiness, not away from it. If he has drawn you into cohabitation and then left you to carry the confusion and the responsibility for his belongings, that is not pastoral care. Cultural background does not change what God calls holy. Leaving clothes with you may simply be a way to keep a tie or to avoid responsibility, and you are right to want to be free of that tie.

For the practical matter of the clothes, it is wise to set a clear and kind boundary and then keep it. You have already asked him what he wants done. You can send one more brief, written message stating that you will not continue to store his things, and giving a specific date by which he can arrange to have them collected or shipped at his expense. Keep a copy of the message. If he does not respond or make arrangements by that date, you may donate or discard them according to local practice. You do not need to keep his possessions in your room as a sign of connection, and you do not need to invite further travel or living together in order to resolve this. If possible, ask a mature believer from a local church to witness the message and to support you in following through.

You also mentioned that he asks you for prayer when his country needs urgent prayer while still leaving this unresolved. It is good to pray for all people and for nations, but it is not healthy to remain in a private, entangled relationship where you are called upon for spiritual support while your own boundaries and holiness are not respected. It is right to step back from that pattern.

We will pray for you, not to bless a relationship outside of marriage, but to ask God to bless you with wisdom, peace, and strength to do what is right. We pray that He will draw you close to Jesus, forgive and cleanse where there has been sin, heal any hurt or shame, give you discernment about this man and about future relationships, and surround you with trustworthy counsel in a local church where you can be known and supported. We pray that you will be given courage to keep clear boundaries, to steward your home in purity, and to trust that God will provide for your needs without needing to hold on to what ties you to the past.

If you do not already have a pastor or mature Christian woman you trust nearby, please seek one soon to walk with you personally, to help you process what has happened, and to encourage you in daily prayer and in reading Scripture. God hears the honest heart that seeks Him, and He is able to restore and to lead you into a life that is whole and holy. You are not alone in this, and continued prayer and wise fellowship can help you move forward in freedom.
