We join with you in bringing your desire for companionship before the Lord and we thank you for closing your request in Jesus name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in no other name that we are saved. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 2:5 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12
We hear your heart to meet a nice man and to see if the Lord might open a door with your single neighbor, and we want to lovingly encourage you to seek something even higher and holier than simply a nice guy and a great relationship. Scripture calls us not to pursue relationships for companionship alone but to seek a godly marriage that honors God. Marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman as God designed from the beginning, Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. Genesis 2:24 and Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled. Hebrews 13:4 We want to pray with you not just for a boyfriend but for a husband if it is Gods will for you, and to view any courtship as intentional preparation for marriage to a fellow believer in Christ.
We encourage you to look beyond niceness and to seek a man who loves the Lord Jesus with all his heart, who will lead spiritually and love sacrificially. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity. 2 Corinthians 6:14 A nice character without faith in Christ cannot provide the spiritual foundation a marriage needs. We also gently correct and remind that any growing closeness must remain pure before marriage, for God calls us to flee sexual immorality. Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18 What the world often calls a relationship involving intimacy outside of marriage, God calls fornication and it is to be avoided entirely until the covenant of marriage. Getting along and getting closer should therefore mean growing in friendship, prayer, godly conversation and wise counsel, with accountability from family and the church, keeping clear boundaries.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we lift up our sister to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You know her longing for love and companionship and You see her heart. We ask that You would first draw her closer to Yourself and help her to delight herself in You and to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness. Matthew 6:33, Psalm 37:4 We pray that if it is Your will for her to be married, You would provide a godly Christian man to be her husband, a man who fears You, walks in integrity and will love her as Christ loved the church. If this neighbor is such a man and if he knows You as Savior, we ask that You would allow a pure and respectful friendship to grow in Your timing and in a way that honors You, with wisdom and discernment for both. If he is not a believer or not Your choice for her, we ask that You would clearly close that door and guard her heart from pursuing what is not best. Keep them both from temptation and from any form of fornication, and help them to honor You with their bodies and minds. Grant her patience, peace and contentment while she waits, trusting that Your plans are good, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 We ask this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray and to seek the Lord diligently, to be active in a Bible believing church where you can be known and where a potential spouse can be observed for his faith and character over time. Guard your heart, seek wise counsel, and trust that the Lord who said He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of Yahweh. Proverbs 18:22 also cares deeply for those who desire a husband. Wait on the Lord and let Him establish your steps.
