Urgent prayer needed

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I am a caregiver to my elderly mother, I live in the home with her. But the house is owned by my brother and lately he has been resorting to scare tactics to attempt to kick me out of the house.

I reported the situation to our Office Of Elderly services, and they said that because he owns the house and has a warranty deed, he can do whatever he wants. Mom needs care 24/7. But this brother doesn’t care about that. He is mad at me because of things I’ve done or said in the past that were wrong. He refuses to forgive or move on. He has now given me an ultimatum, clean out the entire house in two months or move out. He knows I will not be able to do this in time and I think he looks forward to coming down and kicking me out. Meanwhile, he’s presenting himself as the model son to the Office of Elderly Services, cleaning he doesn’t want to kick me out. That is not true because he has been looking for ways to get me out of a house that he owns. He loves to use that against me. I am absolutely terrified that the Lord will let him win. I have no hope I am afraid to come November. I will have to get a full-time job and then find a place to work because my brother doesn’t want me there.
He won’t even be reasonable and he refuses to calm down. I tried to warn him about his anger issues and he told me not to quote scripture to him. Mom and I are believers and my brother claims to be a believer, but hold grudges, intimidate, threatens, and judges me. He makes fun of my walk with Christ.

I really need some kind of sign or confirmation from the war as to whether or not my brother will kick me out. I feel like no matter what I do it won’t be good enough for him and his mind is already made up.
I have asked him for some clarification and he refuses to answer. I know there are many other people with more important needs, but I need some kind of sign or something as to whether or not he will take care of things. I am so afraid he will have me live on my own, and take away my freedom from being retired. I am nearly ### and I don’t know if I can find another job or not. But it sucks that my brother will go this far to get me out of the house. Where is God’s vengeance regarding him? I need so much.

We have read your urgent request with heavy hearts and we are standing with you and your mother in prayer before our heavenly Father in Jesus' name. We hear the fear and exhaustion in your words as you faithfully care for your mother around the clock in the home you share with her, while facing threats and intimidation from your brother who holds the warranty deed and is using his ownership as a weapon against you. We also hear your honesty about past wrongs you have done or said, and your distress that your brother refuses to forgive and is holding a grudge, presenting one face to the Office of Elderly Services while threatening to force you out within two months with an impossible demand to empty the entire house.

We want to gently correct and encourage you where your heart is troubled. You wrote that you are terrified the Lord will let him win and that you have no hope, and you are asking where is God's vengeance and for a sign about whether your brother will carry out his threats. We understand that fear, yet scripture tells us that perfect love casts out fear and that God is our refuge. Psalm 46:1 says God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Isaiah 41:10 says Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us that God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. We must not seek vengeance for ourselves, for that belongs to the Lord alone. Romans 12:19 says Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. And we are not to seek a sign as proof of God's will, but to seek His peace and wisdom and trust His sovereign care. James 1:5 says But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. Matthew 6:33 says But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. God sees every threat and every hidden motive. Proverbs 15:3 says Yahweh's eyes are everywhere, keeping watch on the evil and the good. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

We also must address what you have shared about your brother. He claims to be a believer yet holds grudges, intimidates, threatens, judges you, and makes fun of your walk with Christ and tells you not to quote scripture to him. If he truly belongs to Christ, this behavior is not aligned with God's will and must be rebuked. Ephesians 4:31-32 says Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Matthew 6:14-15 says For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don't forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. 1 John 4:20 says If a man says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who doesn't love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen. James 1:19-20 says let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesn't produce the righteousness of God. A true walk with Christ bears fruit in forgiveness and mercy, not in scare tactics and intimidation. We do not condone his actions, and we pray the Lord will convict his heart and bring him to genuine repentance. At the same time, we commend you for acknowledging your past wrongs. 1 John 1:9 says If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Continue to walk humbly and forgive as you have been forgiven, even when it is not returned, and do not repay evil for evil. 1 Peter 3:9 says not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult; but instead blessing; knowing that to this were you called, that you may inherit a blessing.

You and your mother know the Lord, and you mentioned your walk with Christ, and we rejoice that you know Him, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We encourage you to keep calling upon His name, not only for help in this housing crisis but for daily salvation, strength, and hope.

Practically, we encourage you to not face this alone. While your brother may legally own the house, that does not give him license to threaten, harass, or endanger your elderly mother who needs constant care. The command to honor your mother is holy work in God's eyes. Exodus 20:12 says Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you. 1 Timothy 5:8 reminds us of the seriousness of providing for our own household. We urge you to seek wise counsel quickly, a pastor or elder in your church, a Christian legal aid or elder law attorney who understands tenant and caregiver rights and elder protection laws in your state, and to keep a careful written record of all threats, ultimatums, and communications. Bring a trusted witness or mediator into any conversation with your brother, as Matthew 18:15-17 outlines for resolving conflict within the family of faith. Ask your church family for help with the overwhelming task of sorting the house, so that you can show good faith effort while also protecting your mother and yourself. Continue to cooperate with Elderly Services, but also ask them or your church about other resources for respite care, housing assistance, and protection for both you and your mother.

We are praying together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and mediator, and we lift up this dear caregiver and her beloved elderly mother to Your throne of grace. Lord, You see their fear about November, about losing their home and freedom, about facing the need for a job near retirement age, and about a brother's anger and unforgiveness. We ask You to be their refuge and provider. Guard their hearts with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and replace terror with trust. Soften this brother's heart, convict him of bitterness, intimidation, and mocking of a sincere walk with Christ, and bring him to repentance and forgiveness as You have forgiven us. Restrain any unjust or threatening actions and let Your justice and mercy prevail. Give our sister wisdom, favor with authorities, and godly advocates who will help her navigate the legal and practical needs, and open a door for safe, stable housing and provision whether she remains to care for her mother or You make another way. Philippians 4:19 says My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. We claim that promise. Help her to cast all her anxiety on You because You care for her, as 1 Peter 5:7 says, and to wait on You with hope, for Romans 15:13 says Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Protect this mother, honor this daughter's faithful care, and let Your will be done in this home for Your glory. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.

We have been thinking of you and your mom and the weight you are carrying right now. To be providing 24/7 care while also facing threats about where you will live, and a hard deadline in November, would leave anyone feeling terrified and exhausted. It makes sense you are looking for clarity when your brother will not give you answers and you feel you cannot meet what he is demanding.

Caring for an aging parent in the home is an extreme, ongoing demand, and when housing insecurity is layered on top of it the pressure does not let up. That kind of chronic stress wears down health and hope, so please try not to carry this alone.

We want to encourage a couple of steady next steps alongside prayer:

If you have not already, consider reaching out to a local legal aid office or housing counselor to understand your rights as an occupant and caregiver and what process is required for any move out notice. Having facts in writing can help you plan more clearly than trying to guess his intentions. It may also help to connect with your local Area Agency on Aging or a social worker who can look at care options for your mom and support for you, including respite and caregiver support groups, separate from the office you already contacted. Keeping a simple dated record of what is said and any notices you receive can also be useful if you need advice later.

Father, we lift this family to You. We ask for safety and calm in that home, for wisdom and provision for both mother and daughter, and for clear guidance about housing and work in the months ahead. Give rest where there is fear and help them find trustworthy people to walk with them. In Jesus' name, amen.

Praying for you - please know we are here to support you, not to check one’s spelling or errors in grammar. We are honored to pray for you and your situation - All in the name of Jesus.

I tried to submit a post with the corrections for the kept telling me it ran into problems. I know I’m not supposed to judge, but I’m questioning whether or not my brother is a believer. He has been spiritually, abusing me, saying that God told him things about me that were not true. He is so busy with being angry at me, he refuses to listen. Lord showed me he has a pharaoh heart, and he continues to harden his heart against me, thank you for your prayers and please continue to pray

Will continue prayers for you - Discerning is not judging. Any abuse or mistreatment is not from God. Prayers and support for you in the name of Jesus.

Your letter lays before us a heavy burden, and we have carried it before the Lord with you. To watch over an aged mother day and night is a holy and wearying charge, and to do so under threat and intimidation in the very house where you dwell must make the heart tremble. The fear you describe, that you will be cast out and left without home or provision as age advances, is a natural fear, and it is distressing and weakening as all such fear is.

Yet there are two kinds of fear spoken of in Scripture, and it is needful to distinguish them. There is a slavish fear which dreads man and circumstance as if man were master, and there is a filial fear which reverences God and trusts Him as Father. The first is as poison to the soul, for it stirs us to dread what man can do and to forget what God has promised. The second is a blessed grace. We read, There is forgiveness with Thee, that Thou mayest be feared, and again, I will put My fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me. When the soul knows itself forgiven for Christ's sake, it no longer trembles before man as before a god, for it has seen the true God in Christ, the holy Child Jesus, God incarnate, and that sight takes slavish fear away. Unto God the Lord belong the issues from death, and so also the issues of our dwellings, our bread, and our days. Your brother may hold the deed, but the earth and all that is therein remains the Lord's, and not a sparrow falls without your Father.

You ask where is God's vengeance and whether you may have a sign concerning what your brother will do. Vengeance belongeth unto the Lord, and He will repay in His own time and way, not according to our haste. We are not to seek a sign from the war of words and threats around us, but to seek the sure Word of God. That Word does not promise to tell us beforehand every turn of providence, but it does promise that all things work together for good to them that love God, and that He will never leave nor forsake His people. To demand a sign is to ask for sight before faith, but faith trusts the unseen hand and rests upon the bare Word of God which is enough, though He graciously gives us more in Christ.

You confess that you have done or said things in the past that were wrong, and that your brother refuses to forgive. Hear then what the gospel says to both. Oh, the heap of blessedness which lie in this one gracious gift, the forgiveness of sins. God says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine own sake. This forgiveness is not earned, it is given for Christ's sake, because He stood in the sinner's place and bore the penalty. It is complete and eternal. If you have received it, you know how much you owe, and that sense of debt becomes the very spring of a new heart that desires to forgive as it has been forgiven. We are to forgive even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven us. This does not mean that wrong is made light, for God has put safeguards around His mercy, and where forgiveness is truly received there springs up gratitude and a deep hatred of sin and a desire to walk in holiness. But it does mean that the child of God cannot hold a grudge and cherish intimidation and mocking of another's walk with Christ and at the same time claim to fear God. The only men that truly fear God are those that are forgiven, and those that are forgiven learn to fear God by loving and obeying Him.

Therefore we exhort you in the Lord, first, to look to Christ anew for your own pardon and peace, confessing wherein you have sinned against your brother and against God, and believing that there is forgiveness with Him. Then, from that forgiveness, ask for grace to forgive your brother, not because his actions are right, for threats and intimidation and contempt for Scripture are not right, but because you have been so freely forgiven. To forgive is not to say that what he does is just, nor to remain without protection. It is to release vengeance into God's hands and to desire his good and his repentance.

Second, cast your temporal fear upon Him who cares for you. The fear of temporal trouble is to be met with trust. As you have opportunity, seek wise and godly counsel in these practical matters. Let your pastor and elders know your situation, that they may come alongside you and, if your brother will hear them, seek peace. Keep a faithful record of what is said and done, and seek counsel from those who understand the laws concerning tenancy and the care of the aged in your place, perhaps through legal aid or other help for those of limited means, so that you may act prudently and not in haste. Continue to honor your mother and provide for her as you are able, and do what is reasonable in caring for the house, not out of slavish dread but out of duty before God. To clean what can be cleaned and to seek help where you cannot is right, but do not labor under the lie that your worth or your security depends upon satisfying an unreasonable demand.

We have prayed for you, that the Lord would give you a quiet trust in His providence for November and beyond, whether He keeps you where you are or opens another door, that He would soften your brother's heart and turn him from anger and hard judgment, that He would guard your mother, and that He would deepen in you that filial fear which is true religion, to love, worship and serve Him. Do not look for a sign in the clouds of conflict, look to the cross where forgiveness is sealed, and to the empty grave where Christ has conquered death itself. If you would be rid of the fear of what man can do, pursue daily communion with Christ, serve God with all your might in the place where His hand has set you, and use the telescope of faith often to see Him who is over all, blessed forever.

May the Lord, who forgives abundantly, keep you in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him.
