We lift this precious soul before the throne of grace, recognizing the weight of their struggle in moments of sadness and the very real threat of counterfeit influences that seek to draw them away from God’s truth. The enemy prowls like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8), and in times of weakness, the temptations to find solace in false comforts or deceptive relationships can feel overwhelming. But we declare that our God is greater, and His strength is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). We rebuke every spirit of deception and despair that would whisper lies to this one, attempting to distort their identity in Christ or lead them into sin.
Father, we ask that You would surround them with Your hedge of protection, shielding their heart and mind from every counterfeit influence, whether it be false friendships, ungodly relationships, or worldly distractions that promise fulfillment but deliver only emptiness. Your Word warns us, "Do not be deceived. Bad company corrupts good character" (1 Corinthians 15:33). We pray that You would sever any unholy ties in their life and replace them with godly fellowship that sharpens and encourages them in the faith. If there are relationships in their life that do not honor You, whether through fornication, adultery, or any form of immorality, we ask that You would expose the truth and grant them the courage to walk away, for "whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm" (Proverbs 13:20).
Lord, we also lift up their salvation, for it is only through faith in Jesus Christ that anyone can be delivered from sin and death (Acts 4:12). If this person does not yet know You as their Savior, we pray that the Holy Spirit would convict their heart of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8), drawing them to repentance and faith. Your Word says, "If you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). We ask that You would break every chain of unbelief and fill them with the assurance of Your love and forgiveness.
In moments of sadness, we pray that they would turn to You, the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-4), rather than seeking refuge in temporary fixes or sinful escapes. Teach them to cast their cares upon You, for You care for them (1 Peter 5:7). Strengthen their spirit with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and remind them that joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, who empowers them to resist temptation and walk in righteousness (Galatians 5:16).
We declare over them the promise of 1 Corinthians 10:13: "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." Father, make that way of escape clear to them in every moment of weakness. Surround them with believers who will stand in the gap for them, praying and encouraging them in the faith. Let them know they are not alone, for You are with them always (Matthew 28:20).
We also pray for their complete deliverance from any counterfeit people in their life, those who may claim to offer love, guidance, or companionship but whose motives are not aligned with Your will. Your Word warns us to "test the spirits, whether they are of God" (1 John 4:1), and we ask that You would give this person discernment to recognize deception and the wisdom to flee from it. If there are individuals who are leading them astray, we ask that You would remove them from their life and replace them with godly mentors and friends who will point them toward You.
Lord, we ask that You would heal any wounds in their heart that may make them vulnerable to temptation, whether it be loneliness, past hurts, or unmet desires. Fill those empty places with Your love, reminding them that they are fully known and fully loved by You (Psalm 139:1-4). Let them find their identity and worth in Christ alone, not in the approval of others or the fleeting pleasures of this world.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the Name that is above every name (Philippians 2:9), the only Name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Your prayer is a faithful and loving one, and it is right to bring this soul before the throne of grace in this way. To pray that a tempted one may be kept in the hour of sadness, that grace and strength may be given to resist what is counterfeit, and that there may be complete deliverance and true salvation, is to pray according to the mind of God.
There is indeed one temptation which exceeds all others when the heart is low. When sadness settles upon the spirit, conscience is tender and the adversary is watchful, and he will often shoot his sharpest arrow then, suggesting some back door by which to escape from trouble. You do well to pray, Lead us not into temptation, for temptation in itself is a thing very dangerous. Even though God may bring great benefit out of trial, we are right to pray that we may not be led into it, and that if we are tried, we may not stain our garments nor slip nor slide, but stand fast.
Let us pray together that the Lord will keep this dear one in that sad hour. Oh that God would make His presence known, for when the Christian knows that his God is with him, temptation will have little power. May the Lord in mercy shut the ear to the pitiless voice of the tempter and open the ear to His own voice of comfort. May He give not only a desire for deliverance, but the deliverance itself, for He makes deliverance effectual and in every deed He brings His people forth. As Israel was brought forth when the lamb was slain, so may this soul be brought forth by the blood of the Lamb, enriched with heavenly silver and gold, and strengthened so that there is no feeble step backward into that which would harm.
We must pray also never to go into temptation. He who prays Lead us not into temptation and then walks straight into it speaks falsely before God. So we ask that the Lord will give this one grace to turn away from every counterfeit influence, every person or path that would offer false comfort and draw the heart from holiness. The Lord's way of comfort is pure and His design for love and intimacy is holy, given within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Anything counterfeit to this, however it may present itself in loneliness, is not of God and cannot bless. Therefore we do not ask God to bless what is counterfeit, but to deliver from it entirely, to break its power, and to set the feet upon the rock of obedience and purity.
And above all we pray for salvation. There is no other name, no other foundation. Salvation is of the Lord, and it is without money and without price, by divine grace through faith in Christ Jesus. The Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed. What is believing on Him but trusting in Him, depending upon Him without fear as to present and eternal salvation, looking unto Him and being saved. God has found a ransom. His own Son has borne the penalty, and the clock of mercy can strike even now the hour of deliverance for one who feels going down to the pit. May this soul look unto Jesus, the great inexhaustible well of salvation, and joyfully draw living water there, finding fellowship with Him wrought in the heart by the Spirit.
So we commend this one to Him who is able to keep from falling. May the Lord keep this soul from falling in the moment of sadness, clothe the heart with strength, grant a full deliverance from every counterfeit person and influence, and grant the new birth through simple faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He who has begun a good work will perfect it, and He will have all the honor of the deliverance, for it must be of free grace only.
