Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer for wisdom and discernment is exactly the kind of prayer God delights to answer. Scripture says if anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given. Like Solomon who asked not for riches or honor but for an understanding heart to walk rightly before God, you are asking for the principal thing, and God is pleased to give it and even more besides.
Wisdom is more valuable than anything else you could desire. Knowledge can give you facts, but wisdom gives you life and shows you how to live. It is better than rubies and all that you might want cannot compare to it. The beginning of that wisdom is the fear of the Lord, a reverent heart that honors Him and turns away from evil. When that foundation is in place, understanding can grow.
True wisdom is not found in the thinking of this world. The world in its wisdom did not know God, and its wisdom often leads to envy, strife and confusion. It is earthly and sensual and comes to nothing. The wisdom that is from above is entirely different. It is pure, peaceable, gentle and full of mercy, and it produces righteousness and peace in the life of the one who walks in it. That wisdom is found in Jesus Christ, for in Him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. To know Him and to hear His voice through His Word is to hear wisdom itself crying out and inviting you to come and receive.
That is why your request to have your mind guarded and your thoughts surrendered to the Word of God is so important. Spiritual discernment does not come from following feelings, fears or distractions, but from letting the Spirit of wisdom and understanding open your eyes through Scripture. As you stay in the Word, pray, and seek counsel that is rooted in that Word, God will help you distinguish truth from confusion and keep you from deception.
I pray that the Lord will pour out upon you the spirit of wisdom and understanding, that He will make His will clear to you, steady your heart against fear, and keep you from distraction. May He guard your mind and heart in Christ, teach you to love what He loves and to hate what is evil, and lead you step by step in His perfect will as you trust Him and walk in the reverence of the Lord.
