Prayer for spiritual growth and freedom from sin

Please pray for me to be freed from my habitual sin which I keep falling back into even after multiple times of trying to set myself right before God, and it's worsening everytime. Please pray so that I am fully delivered from those sins and live a life that Jesus wants me to live. Also pray for me to get a job, which God has planned for me and to open doors for me. Thank you.

We hear your heart cry and we join with you before the Father in Jesus name, seeking His will for your deliverance and your future. We thank you for your honesty about falling back into habitual sin even after trying many times to set yourself right before God, and that it is worsening. That honesty is the beginning of freedom, for God is near to those who confess their need for Him.

We want to lovingly rebuke and correct what keeps you bound, not to condemn you but to set you free. Scripture says, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. Yet it also says, What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? May it never be. Romans 6:1. Habitual sin that worsens is a warning that we cannot overcome it by our own resolve or by trying to set ourselves right in our own strength. We must submit fully to God and allow His grace to transform us. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1. And If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36. Trying to be right before God by effort alone will leave us defeated, but walking by the Spirit gives victory, for you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh if you walk by the Spirit. Galatians 5:16.

We encourage you to take practical steps of repentance and growth. Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7. Flee youthful lusts and follow after righteousness. 2 Timothy 2:22. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13. That way of escape often means turning off the source, fleeing the place of temptation, hiding His word in your heart that you might not sin against Him, Psalm 119:11, and bringing your struggle into the light with a mature believing brother or sister for accountability and prayer. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12:2. Daily time in the Word, persistent prayer, and fellowship with other believers are not optional, they are how the Holy Spirit renews you and causes spiritual growth. His grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9.

We also lift up your desire for work that God has planned for you. We know He cares about this need. We remember that whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. Colossians 3:23. And Seek first Gods Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33. For we know the thoughts that God thinks toward you, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. And our God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19.

We pray together now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we come before Your throne of grace on behalf of our brother who is weary from this battle with habitual sin. We confess this sin before You and ask for Your mercy and cleansing. Forgive him as he confesses, wash him clean by the blood of Jesus, and break the chains that have held him. We ask that You deliver him fully, not partially, that You give him hatred for sin and hunger for righteousness. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, teach him to walk by the Spirit and to flee every temptation, and renew his mind through Your Word. Raise up godly accountability around him, strengthen him in weakness, and let him know there is no condemnation in Christ but power to live the life Jesus calls him to live. Cause him to grow spiritually, to be rooted and built up in Christ, bearing fruit that remains.

We also ask for Your provision for work. You know the job You have planned for him. Open doors that no man can shut, close doors that are not Your will, and give him favor, diligence, and patience as he waits and seeks. Provide for his needs and let his work be a place where he can glorify You and grow in character and service. We trust Your timing and Your goodness.

We thank You that it is only through Jesus that we have access to You, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. We rest in Your faithful love and Your power to deliver and to provide. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

Thank you for sharing this so honestly. Wanting to be free and to live for Jesus, and feeling discouraged when the same struggle returns and even feels worse, is a heavy place to be. We hear both your hunger for holiness and your desire to provide through the work God has for you.

One thing that has helped many of us is remembering that spiritual growth is usually gradual and uneven, with highs and lows over a lifetime, not a quick fix. What matters is staying turned toward Jesus over the long haul and leaning on His Spirit, not just our own resolve. The simple, steady means He uses are time in His Word, honest prayer, and worship alongside other believers who can encourage you.

A practical next step that may help is to choose one small, sustainable rhythm rather than trying to overhaul everything at once. Perhaps a set time each day to meet with God in the Word and prayer, and inviting one mature, trusted believer or pastor to know what you are facing so you are not carrying this alone and can pray together. For the job search, that same person may also help you think through open doors and next applications as you pray for God's provision.

We are praying for you.

Father, we bring our brother before You and ask for Your mercy and strength. Deliver him from the sin that entangles him and teach him to walk in freedom by Your Spirit. Draw him close through Your Word and Your presence, and open the right door for work according to Your wisdom and kindness. Lead him day by day into the life Jesus desires for him. Your honest and sorrowful confession is itself a hopeful sign, for it shows the Spirit of God is at work in you, making you feel the weight and mischief of sin and making you long to be free from it.

You speak of a habitual sin which entangles you again and again, and which seems to grow worse with each fall. This is the very nature of sin when it is left to itself. At first it catches a man as with the tiniest spider's cobweb that can scarcely be seen, and he thinks he can break it in a moment, but by indulgence it engenders a second nature and binds with cords that no mere resolution of man can break. You have proved this, for you have tried many times to set yourself right before God and have found your own strength to fail. Be not surprised at this, for deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy.

Hear then the good word which God has spoken concerning poor prisoners of hope who feel themselves bound by justice and fettered by sin. He says, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, for I have found a ransom. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance, that a sinner should be saved from the pit of hell through a ransom, if God had not thought of it and provided it Himself. That ransom is His own dear Son, who bore sin punished upon the great Substitute and put it away forever from all those who will only trust Him. To look to Christ is to trust in His one great sacrifice, and he that looks and lives shall leap in joyful liberty.

Do not think that your falls have outlawed you from your God if you are indeed looking to Jesus. There is a distant difference between punishment and chastisement. Punishment belongs to the ungodly, but that which you feel as the smart of conscience and the sorrow of your falls, when you are a child of God, bears the blessed aspect of chastening from a Father's hand. The Lord Himself kindles the furnace and sits as a Refiner at the door, not to destroy you, but to make you hate sin more and to show you more clearly the evil of it. Sin never seems so black as when we see it put away by Jesus' blood, and he who has truly been forgiven will at this moment hate sin and long to be kept from it.

Take then this sweet assurance for your comfort and your warfare, Sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law, but under grace. The law by reason of our unruly nature excites opposition, but grace teaches us to love holiness and gives power to walk in it. Sin may for a while seem to prevail and sound its tattoo in your ears, yet it shall not have dominion where Christ has found a ransom and where the soul looks alone to the heavenly Father for sanctification. Cry to Him night and day, Lord, keep me from sin, keep me even from vain thoughts, and above all keep me from acts dishonoring to Your holy name. He is able to keep you from falling.

And concerning your desire for work, we will bring that also before the Lord. He who delivers the soul from the pit is the same God who opens doors that no man can shut and who orders your steps. Trust Him not only for the forgiveness of sin but for the ordering of your daily path, and be more earnest to profit by your trials than merely to escape from them.

Let us pray for you now. O Lord God, who has found a ransom and has commanded deliverance for those bound in the pit, look upon this soul who confesses habitual sin and longs to be free. Forgive through the blood of Christ, and by Your Spirit break the power of darkness and the fascinating power of sin. Teach this one to look to Jesus and live, and to find in Him both pardon and power to become holy. Keep Your child from the dominion of sin, and make Your grace to reign in the heart. And in Your fatherly providence, open such a door of honest labor as You have planned, that this life may be spent in usefulness and to the declaration of Your works. Grant that this afflicted one may yet say, I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
