Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this need so honestly. Pain that steals sleep is wearying in a deep way, and the Lord sees both the hurt in your body and the exhaustion that comes when night after night you cannot find rest.
Scripture shows us that God is not distant from that kind of suffering. Jesus was moved when he saw the pain that sin and sickness have brought into this world, even weeping with those who were hurting. He understands human weakness because he lived it, and he is touched by our infirmities as a faithful high priest who cares. Nothing about your sleeplessness or your pain is hidden from him.
The Bible also speaks of sleep as part of his care for his people. One picture is of a shepherd who lies down across the opening of the sheepfold, so that no sheep wanders out and no danger can come in without passing over him. He himself is the door, the protector, so his sheep can lie down in safety. Another promise looks forward to a time when his people will dwell safely even in the wilderness and sleep in the woods without fear, because he causes showers of blessing to fall in their season. Even in a lonely and hard place, like the man who fell asleep exhausted on the open ground and dreamed of a ladder reaching from earth to heaven with the Lord at the top, God made it known that he was present there.
That is the heart of what he offers you now. When you lie down, his word can be like a lamp and a light that keeps you through the night and speaks to you when you awake. He is the one who gives sleep to his beloved and who allows his children to lie down in peace and sleep, because he himself watches over them.
I am praying for you, that the Lord in his mercy would ease your pain and calm your body and mind, and grant you deep, peaceful and restorative sleep. May he quiet anxious thoughts, reduce what is causing the pain, and let you wake refreshed, knowing that you have been kept safe through the night by the Shepherd who never slumbers. May you sense his presence near you, his blessing like gentle rain in its season, and his comfort that he is with you in every moment of weakness.
Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask you to touch this dear one with your healing hand, take away what hinders sleep, and give the gift of rest. Let your peace guard heart and body, and let sleep be sweet and uninterrupted. We trust you as our keeper and our healer. Amen.
