Thank you for sharing this request and allowing us to pray with you for relief from pain and for peaceful, restorative sleep.
God sees and cares about both your pain and your sleeplessness. Scripture shows us that Jesus is moved when He sees our suffering. When He came to the place where His friends were grieving, He groaned in His spirit and wept because He felt their pain. He is not distant from what you are feeling now. He is a great high priest who is touched by our weaknesses and our infirmities, and He understands the weariness that comes when pain keeps sleep away.
There are times when pain makes sleep depart, when every movement hurts and the night feels very long. God knows that kind of night. He also knows how to meet us in it. When Jacob was exhausted and alone in the wilderness with nothing but a stone for a pillow, he fell asleep and God showed him a ladder reaching from earth to heaven with the Lord standing above it. It was a reminder that even in a hard and lonely place, heaven is not closed and God is still present and watching over His own.
Jesus spoke of Himself as the door of the sheepfold, the shepherd who lies across the opening so that no sheep can wander out and no harm can come in without passing Him first. That is how you can rest. When you belong to Him, you sleep under His watch. His word also promises a future day when His people will dwell safely and sleep secure even in the wilderness and in the woods, and He will cause showers of blessing to come in their season. Even now He gives us foretastes of that safety and blessing. One of the ways His truth helps us is that when we hold His instruction in our hearts, it keeps us when we sleep and speaks to us when we awake, because His commandment is a lamp and His law is a light for our path.
We are praying that the Lord will have compassion on you in your pain, that He will ease what hurts in your body and quiet your mind and heart as you lie down. May He grant you deep, peaceful and restorative sleep under His care, and may you awake refreshed and strengthened by His mercy.
Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this dear one to You. You know the pain that has made sleep difficult. You are touched by every weakness and You weep over the suffering that sin and brokenness have brought into this world. We ask that You would bring relief and healing according to Your will, calm the body and still anxious thoughts, and spread Your protection over this night and every night. Let Your presence be the door that guards and Your promises be the lamp that keeps watch. Grant peaceful, restorative sleep and renewed strength, and help this heart to rest fully in Your love and care through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
