Prayer for my sons court case

My son has been accused of sexual assault, I’m scared I know it was consensual. I believe him.

We have heard your heart and we join you in bringing your son and this very serious court case before the Lord, for we know you are scared and you love your son deeply. We understand the fear that comes when a child faces such a grave accusation, and we want to lift both you and your son up to our heavenly Father who sees all things clearly even when we cannot.

We pray first for truth and justice to prevail, for the Lord desires truth in the innermost being and hates false testimony. Whether in court or before God, nothing is hidden from His sight. It is written, A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he who pours out lies shall perish Proverbs 19:5, and also Lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh Proverbs 12:22. We do not know all the facts as God does, and while we hear that you believe your son that it was consensual, we encourage you both to seek absolute honesty before God and before the court. If your son is innocent, we pray the truth will be made clear and justice will protect him. If there is any part that has not been fully truthful, we urge him to confess and repent before God, for it is written, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. We pray for the judge, the lawyers, and all involved that they would act with wisdom and impartiality, for it is written, Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Defend the fatherless. Plead for the widow Isaiah 1:17, and Justice done is a joy to the righteous Proverbs 21:15.

We also must speak lovingly about what you have shared regarding consent. If indeed there was sexual activity that was consensual but outside of marriage, we must address that this is still sin before God. We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and any sexual intimacy outside of that covenant is fornication or adultery. It is written, Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled: but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers Hebrews 13:4, and Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. Being a boyfriend or girlfriend should be considered courtship with the goal being marriage to another Christian believer, looking for a godly spouse rather than a partner for intimacy outside of marriage. If your son has been living outside of God's design for purity, we urge him to turn from that path, to seek forgiveness, and to pursue holiness and a future marriage that honors God. We also pray with compassion for the other person involved in this accusation, that God would bring healing, truth, and justice for them as well, for Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart Psalm 34:18.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6, and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you and your son to put your trust in Jesus, to believe that He died for our sins and rose again, for If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. It is through His name we can bring our fear and cast our anxiety on Him.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this mother and her son to You. Lord, You know the truth of what happened, You see what is hidden, and You are a God of perfect justice and perfect mercy. We ask that Your truth would be revealed in this court case and that no injustice would be done to anyone. We pray for peace for this mother who is afraid, for You tell us not to be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving let our requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7. Comfort her, give her wisdom to support her son in truth and not in excusing sin, and give her son a heart that loves truth and fears You. If there is sin to confess, lead him to genuine repentance and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Protect all involved and let this trial lead both of them closer to You, to purity, and to a life that seeks a godly marriage if it is Your will. We ask that Your will be done and that You would be glorified even in this painful situation. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

We can hear the fear in your words as you carry this for your son. Loving a child through an accusation like this is an incredibly heavy place to be, especially when you believe him and also feel so powerless over what the court will decide. It makes sense you feel scared and torn.

In times like this fear can make it hard to think clearly or rest, so we want to encourage you to stay anchored where you can. Stay in close contact with his attorney and let the legal process handle the facts, resist talking about details outside that trusted circle, and let one or two steady people in your church or family walk with you so you are not carrying this alone. Caring for your own sleep, meals and time with the Lord will help you keep showing up for him.

We are praying with you for wisdom for everyone involved in the case, for truth to be clearly seen, and for steadiness for you and your son in the days ahead.

Father, we lift this mom and her son to you. Give them your peace that steadies fear, guide the attorneys and the court toward what is true and just, and surround this family with wise counsel and support. Lead them step by step and keep them close to you. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your heart is full of anxiety in this dark trial, and it is written that the very anxiety which arises through being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. The word of the Lord to you in this hour is that gracious word, Fear not, and that faithful exhortation, Casting all your care upon Him for He cares for you.

You tell of your fear for your son and of your belief concerning what has taken place. Hear this truth in love. The court of man must seek to find what is true by witness and evidence, but the Lord sees all things as they are, and He will not be mocked. We are commanded to buy the truth and sell it not, to have truth in doctrine, truth in the heart, and truth in the life. Therefore I urge you and your son not to fear man, for the fear of man brings a snare, but to fear God, who alone is to be feared and who delights in mercy toward those who confess and forsake sin. Do not let affection, though it be natural for a mother, draw you away from godliness, but let it draw you and your son toward honesty before God and before the court.

This is a grave accusation. If force or assault was done, it is a grievous sin and wrong before God and man and must be confessed and repented of. And even what the world calls consensual intimacy, when it is outside the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, is still sin before a holy God and needs the cleansing blood of Christ. The only way of salvation and forgiveness is through Jesus Christ alone, who bore our sins upon the cross, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish. There is no forgiveness apart from Him, and there is no hiding from Him. Let your son be exhorted to walk in the light, to speak only the truth, to cooperate fully and honestly with those appointed to judge, and to seek not to excuse sin but to own it before God and seek His mercy.

We will pray, not that God would bless what is contrary to His word, but that He would do what is right and merciful. We will pray that the truth in this case be made plain, that justice be done without partiality, that if there is guilt it be brought to repentance, and if there is innocence it be made clear by lawful means. We will pray for the one who has made the accusation, for your son, and for you, that each may be dealt with justly and compassionately, and above all that each may be brought to fear God and to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. We will pray that your fear may be overcome by faith, for perfect love casts out fear, and that you may find strength to trust God in the storm, when every case appears clear to you, to still ask counsel of God and to rest in His sovereign will.

Look unto Jesus, who alone can deliver from the fear of death and judgment and who is faithful to His promises and faithful to His Son. Continue in prayer, seek godly counsel and lawful counsel, and keep close to the word of God which is truth. May the Lord help you to fear not, to believe, and to submit your will to His, knowing He cares for you and will do that which is holy and good.
