Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for opening your heart and sharing this painful situation. I hear how much hurt and confusion you are carrying as you feel another person coming between you and your boyfriend, and I want to respond with both care and biblical clarity.
The most important thing I can share is that every other relationship in your life flows out of your relationship with God. Think of it like an axis. When your vertical relationship with God is right, your horizontal relationships with other people begin to come into balance. When that vertical relationship is out of order, every other relationship feels out of order too. Many of us spend all of our energy trying to fix one relationship with another person, and while we work on that one, others fall apart. The real need is to come back to the center and get right with God first.
God does not want a distant, formal, or ritual relationship with you where you try to follow rules to earn His favor. He wants a close, loving relationship as a Father with His child. Jesus taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. That is the heart He wants you to know. Sin is what separates us from Him, and no amount of trying harder can bridge that gap on its own. God Himself made the way through the blood of Jesus Christ, who died to make atonement and to give you a righteous standing before God as a gift through faith. When you receive that forgiveness and are adopted into His family, you are known by Him and you can know Him intimately, not as a judge keeping a record, but as a Father who loves you.
Out of that loving relationship, the right kind of life begins to grow naturally. Fruit is the natural result of relationship. When you are alive to God through Christ and walking in the Spirit, the things you once struggled to do in your own strength begin to happen because your heart has changed. You begin to want what pleases Him, not because you have to, but because you love Him.
That is why I want to gently point you back to your own walk with the Lord before focusing on trying to restore this romantic relationship. Ask yourself, do I have that intimate, loving fellowship with Jesus right now. Am I seeking Him daily, trusting His love, obeying Him because I love Him. As that relationship is strengthened, He will give you wisdom and peace for every other relationship.
Concerning your boyfriend, I also want to speak honestly in love about God's design. The most important human relationship most of us will experience is marriage, and the Bible teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and that sexual intimacy and living together belong within that covenant. God gave that design for our good and for His glory. A dating relationship, even a serious one, is not yet that covenant. For that reason I cannot pray that God would simply bless or restore a relationship as it is, apart from His will and His design. Instead I can pray that God will work in all of your lives for what is truly best and most holy.
Rather than focusing on labeling the other woman or asking God to move her out of the way, it is more helpful to bring your own heart and his heart before the Lord. Pray for your own healing and holiness, pray for his heart to turn fully to Christ, and pray for this other woman as someone also in need of God's grace. Ask God to reveal whether this relationship is leading you both toward honoring Him in purity, truth, and a future marriage that reflects His covenant, or whether He is calling you to step back and trust Him with your future.
If there has been sexual involvement or living together outside of marriage, God's loving call is to turn from that and to pursue purity. That is not to shame you, but to invite you into the better way He has for you, where your relationship with Jesus enhances and protects your relationships with others.
My prayer for you is this. Father, thank you for loving this dear one and for knowing her by name through Jesus. Draw her into a deeper, loving relationship with you as her Father. Forgive her sins through the blood of Christ and fill her with your Spirit. Heal her heart where it is hurting, give her clarity and wisdom, and help her to seek you first. Work in the lives of her boyfriend and this other person as well, that each would come to know you truly. Guide her steps, guard her in purity, and lead her into whatever future most honors you and brings lasting good to her soul. Help her to trust that as her relationship with you is made right, you will bring balance and direction to every other relationship according to your perfect will. In Jesus name, amen.
If you can, seek personal counsel from a faithful pastor who can walk with you, help you look honestly at this relationship in light of Scripture, and encourage you as you grow in your walk with Christ.
