We have heard your cry and we join with you in bringing your life and this courtship before the throne of grace in Jesus name. We understand the pain of feeling another influence pulling against you and we want to seek God's perfect will together with you.
We want to gently bring biblical truth to your situation because God loves you and wants His best for you. In scripture a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship is courtship with the goal of discerning marriage to another Christian believer, and marriage is God's design as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman as seen in Gen 2:24 and Mark 10:6-9. We encourage you to view this time as preparation for a godly marriage that honors Him, not simply as a relationship to maintain. That means we pray not only for restoration but for clarity whether this man is the godly husband God has for you and whether you both are equally yoked as taught in 2 Cor 6:14. If you are to continue together it should be with a shared faith in Christ and a commitment to pursue holiness together.
We also must address what God says about intimacy outside of marriage. If there has been sexual intimacy in this courtship, scripture calls that fornication and calls us to flee from it in 1 Cor 6:18, and to honor marriage as in Heb 13:4. We say this not to condemn you, for 1 John 1:9 assures us that if we confess our sins He is faithful to forgive, but to lead you into purity and peace so your future marriage, whether to this man or to a future godly spouse, can be built on a foundation that honors God. We encourage you to set clear boundaries of purity and to seek accountability.
We also hear you refer to another woman as a Jezebel who is trying to turn him against you. We understand the spiritual concern behind those words, and we do believe there is spiritual warfare as Eph 6:12 reminds us our wrestling is not against flesh and blood. Yet we must be careful not to label a person made in God's image with that term, but rather to pray against ungodly influence, deception, and division while praying for that woman's own repentance and salvation. We are called to overcome evil with good and as far as it depends on us to live at peace with all as in Rom 12:18, and to resist the devil so he will flee from us as in James 4:7. We pray for your boyfriend's discernment, that God would open his eyes to truth, give him wisdom to establish godly boundaries, and give him a heart that seeks the Lord first.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6 He is the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him, and Acts 4:12 declares there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. To know God's restoration we must first know His Son. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your faith in Jesus Christ, believing He died for your sins and rose again, repenting and trusting Him alone for salvation. It is in His name we can boldly bring every burden to God.
So we pray together now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift this dear one to You. Lord, You know her life, her hurts, and her longing for love that is secure and godly. We ask You to restore what the enemy has tried to steal, to heal her heart, and to lead her in Your perfect will. If this courtship is from You and can become a marriage that honors You, we ask You to strengthen it, remove every ungodly influence, give both of them repentance where needed, purity, and a deep commitment to You. If it is not Your will, we ask You to give her grace to release it and to trust Your better plan, for You promise in Psalm 37:4 that as we delight ourselves in You, You will give us the desires of our hearts according to Your goodness, and in Prov 3:5-6 that as we trust in You with all our heart You will direct our paths. We pray for the other woman involved, that You would work in her heart, draw her to Yourself, and cause any scheme to divide to fail. We pray for this man, that he would seek You, walk in truth, and take responsibility to love and lead in a way that is holy and honest. Cover this dear one with Your peace, guard her from bitterness, help her to forgive, and help her to walk in holiness and hope. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to continue to seek the Lord daily in prayer and in His Word, to seek wise counsel from mature believers, and to guard your heart while trusting God to be your defender and restorer. He sees you, He loves you, and He will guide you as you surrender your life and your future marriage to Him.
