Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have heard your request and we are lifting you up before the Lord in this distressing situation. The fear of losing your home and the pain of daily conflict and harsh words is heavy, and it is right to bring this burden to God and ask for His help and peace.

Scripture teaches that God is not a God of war and fighting, and Jesus says blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God. When conflict rises, we are taught not to rush into it but to deprecate conflict and pursue quietness of spirit, showing both humility and strength. Much conflict springs from the things of this life, from covetousness or pride or the struggle over money and possessions. A person may take our money or threaten our security, yet they cannot steal our treasure in heaven, and the one who acts unjustly harms himself more than his neighbor. To remember no evil and to be at peace even with those who hate peace is virtue that makes us near to God, and the more the other wars against you, the greater the reward for answering with grace and not with retaliation.

The deepest reconciliation we need is with God Himself. Scripture says we were enemies and have been reconciled to God not by our own effort but through Himself, through the blood of His cross. That is the great wonder, that He reconciled us to Himself through His death on the cross, and through that peace we can then seek peace with others. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and having been reconciled to God we are called to imitate His Son as peacemakers.

For that reason we cannot pray that God would bless a romantic reconciliation or a continuing living arrangement outside of marriage, because God has ordained marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and has reserved sexual union and living together as one for within that covenant. To ask Him to bless what is outside that design would not be faithful. But we can and do pray earnestly for what is good and holy in your situation.

We pray that God would bring an end to the combative words and threats between you, that He would soften both hearts and help you to not repay evil for evil, to let go of remembrance of wrongs, and to speak and act with calm and wisdom. We pray that He would provide for your housing and daily needs, that He would give you wisdom for next steps, and that you would seek godly counsel and practical help from your local church family for housing and finances so you are not left without a safe place to live. We pray that if you are living together while not married, God would give you grace and a clear path to live in a way that honors Him, whether that means separate housing and healthy boundaries.

Let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ who shed His blood on the cross to make peace between us and You, have mercy on this dear one who is afraid and under pressure. Grant peace in this home and an end to fighting. Soften the heart of his former partner and his own heart, take away anger and threats, and teach them both to seek what is right. Provide for his rent and his need for shelter, open a way where there seems to be no way, and surround him with wise and caring believers who can help practically. Draw them both to reconciliation with You first, through faith in Christ alone, and then to walk in holiness and peace with others. Give endurance in this trial and let it soon have its end, and form in him a deeper trust in Your heavenly treasure that cannot be taken away. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Thank you for sharing this burden so honestly. The stress of a combative living situation and the fear of losing your housing and becoming homeless is very real, and it is understandable that you are longing for peace.

Scripture makes a distinction that can help you right now. There is peace with God, which comes only when we are reconciled to Him through the blood of Jesus Christ as we surrender our lives to Him. And there is the peace of God, that steady calm that guards the heart and mind even when circumstances are still unsettled. Many who have peace with God still miss the peace of God because their minds are fixed on the problem rather than on the Lord. The promise is that He will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on Him, because they trust in Him. When anxiety rises, turning your thoughts back to the truth that He is on His throne and in control allows that peace to fill your heart again.

That peace is closely tied to wisdom. The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord, a reverent turning away from evil and toward His ways. Wisdom lives with prudence and sound counsel, and her paths are pleasantness and peace. She leads to life and well being. That means in a difficult housing conflict the most important step is to seek the Lord first, and then to seek wise, practical counsel. Fear is an enemy of faith, and decisions made out of panic often lead to more trouble. Remembering the Lord is the cure for fear. It helps you to act prudently rather than react out of fear.

We want to pray for you with that in mind. We will pray for peace in your home, for calm and respectful communication, and for wisdom for both of you in handling responsibilities like rent. We will pray for the Lord to provide for your needs and to open a way for stable housing, and to give you clear next steps, whether that means mediation, counsel, or making a plan for separate living arrangements if needed.

We also want to be faithful to what Scripture teaches about reconciliation and unity. True and lasting unity between people flows out of each person first being at peace with God through Jesus. God does not call us to seek or to ask Him to bless a romantic or sexual reunion outside the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and living together outside that covenant is not His design. For that reason we will not pray for God to restore a romantic relationship on those terms, but we will pray for a different kind of reconciliation, that each of you would be reconciled to God, and that out of that you could have a peaceful, civil resolution to this practical conflict. The wisdom that comes from above is peaceable, and those who sow peace reap a harvest of righteousness. Peacemakers reflect the character of God.

So let us pray for you. Father, we bring this need before You through Jesus Christ, who alone has made peace between us and You by His sacrifice. We ask first that this dear one would know deep peace with You and then the daily peace that comes from keeping the mind fixed on You. Quiet fear and anxiety with the assurance that You see this housing need and You are able to provide. Grant wisdom and understanding, the fear of the Lord that turns from evil and chooses what is right. Soften hearts where there is combativeness, and help both parties to act fairly and responsibly. Lead to wise counsel and to prudent, honest steps for rent and for living arrangements that honor You. Above all, draw each heart to Yourself, that any unity would be unity in You and according to Your truth. In the name of Jesus we ask this, amen.

If you are able, seek trusted pastoral and practical counsel soon to help you make a clear plan for your housing and finances. We will continue to pray that the Lord keeps your heart in His peace and guides you step by step.
