Thank you for sharing so honestly about how heavy and exhausting this has become. Living under constant cursing and screaming, being watched with suspicion over every small action in your own home, and being pressed to apologize for things that did not even happen would wear anyone down. It makes sense that you feel depleted and are asking for peace and for wisdom to do what is right.
The first place peace begins is in having peace with God. That peace only comes through what Jesus did on the cross, where He made peace through His blood and offers forgiveness to all who turn to Him in faith. When the war between us and God is ended by trusting in Christ, the inner war begins to quiet as well. Many know they have been forgiven yet have not learned to live in the daily keeping power of His peace, and that is what you are asking God for now.
Scripture speaks of a peace that is beyond human understanding, a peace the world cannot explain. Jesus said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world gives. Isaiah says God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because he trusts in Him. That perfect peace is not found by trying harder to control the turmoil around you, but by turning your mind steadily toward the Lord and trusting that He will take care of what you cannot control. As your thoughts rest on Him, His peace begins to fill your heart and steady your mind even when the house is not steady.
God wants His people to live in peace and to be peacemakers. The wisdom that comes from above is first pure and then peaceable, gentle, and willing to yield. It does not create wars and strife the way worldly wisdom does. It leads to quietness inside, which then makes it possible to live peaceably with others as far as it depends on you. Scripture says the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. Those who sow in peace will reap a harvest of what is right. That gentleness is not weakness, it is strength under control, a fruit of the Spirit at work in you.
The Bible also warns how destructive strife is. It says a contentious person kindles strife the way coals feed a fire and wood feeds a flame. Once strife is let out it is like water breaking through a dam, very hard to stop, so it is wise to leave off contention before it gets entangled. It is better to have a dry morsel with quietness than a house full of good food with strife. A little with peace is better than abundance with constant conflict. This does not mean your pain is small, it means God sees the value of peace in a home and He knows how deeply the ongoing cutting words and emotional hurt can wound.
Doing the right thing in this season will mean keeping your mind stayed on Christ, asking Him daily to guard your heart with His peace, and responding in a way that does not feed the fire. A gentle answer, refusing to return cursing for cursing, and stepping away from an argument before it escalates can keep strife from spreading. It also means continuing to pray for your wife, that God would bring conviction where it is needed and bring healing to her heart, and that He would give you endurance, clarity, and gentle wisdom. Seek wise and godly counsel from a trusted pastor or counselor who can know you both and walk with you faithfully, and if there is ever any threat of physical harm, seek help to remain safe.
God has not forgotten you. His thoughts toward His children are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give hope. He invites you to call upon Him and He will listen.
Praying for you now, that the Lord would first deepen your peace with Him through Jesus, and then fill you with His peace that passes understanding to guard your heart and mind. Praying that He would keep your mind stayed on Him as you trust Him, that He would give you the wisdom from above that is peaceable and gentle, that He would work conviction and healing in your wife, and that He would show you step by step how to sow peace, to turn aside from strife, and to walk in what is right and pleasing to Him. May He ordain peace for you and keep you steadfast in Christ. In Jesus name, amen.
