Prayer for Me and My Boyfriend

Heavenly Father, I lift up ### to You. Please protect him, guide him, and give him peace and strength. If it is Your will, open the door for honest, loving communication between us. Remove any confusion or distance and soften our hearts toward one another. Help me trust Your timing, remain patient, and find peace regardless of the outcome. Let Your will be done in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

We join you in lifting up this man you care for and your courtship before the Heavenly Father and we thank you for praying in the name of Jesus, for there is no other name by which we have access to God and by which we are saved as we read in Acts 4:12 and we are told in John 14:6 that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him.

We hear your desire for protection, guidance, peace, strength, and for honest loving communication with the softening of hearts and the removal of confusion and distance, and we agree with you in asking that God's perfect will be done. We are encouraged by your prayer to trust His timing and to find peace regardless of the outcome, for that is the heart of surrender. We are reminded in Proverbs 3:5-6 to trust in Yahweh with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding and in all our ways acknowledge Him and He will direct our paths, and in Philippians 4:6-7 we are told in nothing to be anxious but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving to let our requests be made known to God and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts and our thoughts in Christ Jesus. We also cling to Jeremiah 29:11 for we know that God has thoughts of peace toward us to give us hope and a future.

As we pray for you both we want to encourage you biblically concerning this courtship. We view being a boyfriend and girlfriend as a season of courtship with the goal of discerning marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, for marriage is ordained by God as a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman as seen in Genesis 2:24 and honored as described in Hebrews 13:4 where marriage is to be held in honor among all. If this man is to be your husband, we pray that your courtship will be marked by purity, wisdom, and preparation for that holy commitment. We encourage you to seek that you are equally yoked together in faith as taught in 2 Corinthians 6:14, for a marriage that honors God is built on two lives both surrendered to Christ. We also gently remind and exhort you both that Scripture calls us to flee sexual immorality in 1 Corinthians 6:18 and to let sexual immorality and all impurity not even be mentioned among us as becomes saints in Ephesians 5:3, so we encourage you to keep your courtship pure and above reproach, honoring God with your bodies and your hearts while you seek His will for marriage. Honest loving communication is a fruit of walking in truth and love, and we are called in Ephesians 4:15 to speak truth in love and in Ephesians 4:2-3 to walk with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

We pray together for you now.

Heavenly Father, we lift up this young man to You and we lift up this dear sister who is praying for him. We ask that You protect him and guide him by Your Holy Spirit, that You give him peace and strength and draw him closer to Yourself. Lord, if it is Your will, open the door for honest loving communication between them that is rooted in truth and grace. Remove any confusion or distance that is not of You and soften both of their hearts toward You first and then toward one another in a way that honors You. Help them both to trust Your timing and not rush ahead of Your plan, and help our sister to remain patient and to find peace that surpasses understanding regardless of the outcome. Let Your will be done in their lives, and if it is Your will, lead this courtship toward a godly marriage that glorifies You. Help them to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness in Matthew 6:33, trusting that You will add all things according to Your perfect plan. Transform them by the renewing of their minds to discern what is Your good and acceptable and perfect will in Romans 12:2. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

We're grateful you shared this with us. Wanting honest, loving communication while also wanting to trust God's timing and find peace no matter the outcome shows real maturity, and we hear how much weight this is carrying for you.

When distance and confusion settle in, it often helps to slow communication down a bit. Many conflicts grow not from lack of caring but from not being able to name what we're actually feeling underneath. Before a harder conversation, it can help to pause and ask yourself what you are feeling and why, then share that plainly without blame and give him space to do the same. Listening to tone and body language as much as words, and choosing a calm, unhurried time to talk rather than when either of you is tired or rushed, can keep the conversation kinder and clearer.

Whatever happens next, your peace does not have to depend on an immediate answer. Staying rooted in prayer, in wise counsel you trust, and in daily faithfulness can steady you while God makes His direction clear.

Father, we lift this young man to You and ask You to watch over him, guide him and give him strength and peace. We lift our friend to You as well, grant her patience, wisdom and a quiet heart as she waits on Your will. Help them both to speak honestly and listen with grace, and above all let Your good will be done in their lives. In Jesus' name, Amen.

I am praying for you both! I pray that you stay good in your relationship, and everything else, in Jesus name amen!

It is a good thing that you have brought this matter before the Lord, and that your prayer already breathes the spirit of submission, Let Your will be done. That is the true axle upon which all prayer must turn, for as surely as God's will is the axle of the universe, so in grace we must rest assured that He is King, willing to do as He pleases, having mercy on whom He will have mercy.

You do well to ask for protection and guidance and peace, and to desire honest and loving communication. Learn to combine the two prayers which our Lord Himself has taught us, I will, yet not as I will. There is a holy boldness which may say, Father, I will, because we are His children through Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. And there is a true childlike submission which in the same breath says, not as I will, but as Thou wilt. You can always have your way when your way is God's way.

Remember also the word by James, that we ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live and do this or that. All things are under regulation and have an appointed place in God's plan, and nothing happens but what He permits or ordains. It is foolish to propose and dispose as though we need not ask God's consent at all. Therefore do not merely ask the Lord to bless what you desire, but ask Him to make your desires obedient to what He has already revealed as His will.

His revealed will is plain in Scripture. Salvation is through faith in Christ alone, and His will for love between a man and a woman is that it be ordered toward the lifelong covenant of marriage, and that sexual union and living together belong only within that covenant. Any other path, though it may seem loving for a season, will not bring His peace or strength. So as you pray for this man and for yourself, pray first that each of you may be found in Christ, and then that if you are to walk together, you may walk in purity, in self control, and in the light, with wise counsel and with an eye toward that holy estate if the Lord so ordains.

We will join you in praying to this end. That the Lord would draw each of you closer to Christ, keep you from all that would grieve His Spirit, grant you clarity where there is confusion, and distance where distance would preserve holiness. That He would soften your hearts toward Himself first, and then toward one another in a manner that is honest and pure. That He would teach you to trust His timing, to remain patient, and to find your peace not in the outcome of this relationship, but in the unchanging love of God in Christ. And that whatever door He opens or closes, you may have grace to say from the heart, Thy will be done, and to follow it with joy.

May the Lord keep you in His fear, instruct you as His pupil, and make you to know that His promise may tarry but never fails.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

I recently broke up with my ex-boyfriend because we are very unequally yoked. I really do not think this man is the person that God has for me to marry (and honestly, I now doubt that I will ever get married) but part of me is still holding out hope that he is and that God will change him. I...
