Prayer for marriage

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I have feelings of respect and admiration to a ### in Christ, and praying that if this aligns with the will of God, he will be my future husband. I pray that if he is my future husband, that the Lord will soften his heart towards me and open his eyes on me to pursue me for marriage. In Jesus name I ask. Amen.

We hear your heartfelt prayer and join with you in seeking God’s will for your future marriage. It is beautiful to see your desire to honor the Lord in this area of your life, and we praise Him for the respect and admiration you hold for this brother in Christ. Marriage is a sacred covenant, designed by God to reflect His love and faithfulness, and it is right to seek His guidance as you discern His plan for your life.

First, let us affirm that your prayer is rooted in a godly desire, one that seeks alignment with God’s will rather than your own. The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 19:14, "House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh." This verse underscores the truth that a godly spouse is a gift from the Lord, and it is wise to seek His direction in this matter. We also see in 1 Corinthians 7:39 that marriage is to be "only in the Lord," meaning it must be between two believers who share a commitment to Christ. Your desire to see this brother as a potential husband is only fitting if he is a man who fears the Lord, walks in faith, and is equally committed to pursuing a marriage that honors God.

However, we must also gently address the nature of your feelings and prayers. While it is natural to admire someone and hope for a future together, we must guard our hearts against placing our hope in a person rather than in God alone. Jeremiah 17:5 warns, "Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, whose heart departs from Yahweh." Our trust must always remain in the Lord, who is our provider, protector, and guide. If this brother is indeed the one God has for you, He will make it clear in His timing, not by forcing his heart, but by aligning both of your hearts with His will.

We also want to encourage you to surrender this desire fully to the Lord. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus tells us, "But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Rather than focusing solely on whether this man will pursue you, focus on pursuing Christ with your whole heart. As you do, He will direct your steps and bring the right person into your life at the right time. If this brother is not the one, trust that God has someone even better prepared for you, someone who will cherish you as Christ cherishes the church (Ephesians 5:25).

Let us also address the importance of patience and wisdom in this process. The world often pressures us to rush into relationships, but God’s timing is perfect. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Do not be discouraged if the answer is not immediate. Continue to seek the Lord, grow in your faith, and trust that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this sister and her desire for a godly marriage. Lord, we thank You for the way You have created her with a heart that seeks to honor You in all things. We ask that You would guide her steps and reveal Your will for her life in this matter. If this brother in Christ is the one You have prepared for her, we pray that You would soften his heart, open his eyes, and lead him to pursue her in a way that honors You. But Father, if he is not the one, we ask that You would close the door gently and redirect her heart to trust in You alone.

Lord, we pray that You would guard her heart from disappointment or impatience. Help her to wait on You, knowing that Your plans for her are good and Your timing is perfect. Strengthen her faith as she seeks You first in all things. We ask that You would prepare her to be a godly wife, one who loves and submits to her husband as unto You, and that You would prepare the man You have for her to be a husband who leads with love, wisdom, and devotion to You.

Father, we also pray for this brother in Christ. If he is to be her husband, we ask that You would mature him in his faith, teach him to love as Christ loves, and give him the courage to pursue marriage in a way that glorifies You. If he is not the one, we pray that You would lead him to the woman You have prepared for him and that both of them would walk in Your perfect will.

Above all, Lord, we ask that You would be glorified in this situation. May Your name be lifted high, and may Your will be done in this sister’s life. We trust You, knowing that You are faithful and that You hold her future in Your hands. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

In closing, we encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Spend time in Proverbs 31, studying the qualities of a godly wife, and ask the Lord to cultivate those attributes in you. Surround yourself with godly mentors and friends who can speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. And remember, whether single or married, your ultimate fulfillment is found in Christ alone. He is enough, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and He will lead you every step of the way.

We’re lifting this up to the Lord with you, sister, and we’re so encouraged by the way your heart is seeking God’s will above all else. It’s beautiful to see how you’re already valuing this man’s faith and character, those are the things that matter most in a marriage covenant.

We want to pray for you in a different way today. First, we’re asking the Lord to give you clarity, not just about this person, but about yourself. What does God want to shape in you right now? Is there something He’s preparing you for that might look different than you’re imagining? Let’s ask Him to reveal any areas where He wants to refine your heart, so that when the right person comes along, you’re already walking in the fullness of His love.

And for this brother, we’re praying for his eyes to be opened in a way that’s not just about you, but about being the man God has called him to be. If he’s the one, may the Lord give him the courage to step out in faith and pursue you with the same reverence he has for Christ. But if he’s not, may God show him the love and direction he needs to find the woman He has for him.

Most of all, we’re asking the Lord to guard your heart from the temptation to settle or to place your hope in circumstances. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, because He’s the One who holds your future. And if this season feels long, remember: God’s timing is perfect, and His plans for you are far greater than you can imagine.

Let’s pray together right now:

Father, we thank You for this sister’s heart that seeks You first. Open her eyes to see You in every step, and give her the patience to wait on You. If this brother is the one You’ve chosen for her, soften his heart and lead him to pursue her with the same devotion he has for You. But if he’s not, show him the path You’ve prepared for him, and prepare her for the man You have in store.

Guard her heart from disappointment and fill her with Your peace. Help her to trust that You are writing her story, and that every season is preparing her for something beautiful. And for this brother, give him wisdom and humility, whether he’s the one or not, so that he walks in Your will.

Above all, Lord, we want You to be glorified in this. May Your name be lifted high, and may Your love be the foundation of whatever comes next. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Keep walking with the Lord, sister. He’s got you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer over your heart’s deepest desire—a godly marriage. It has been our joy to lift your request before the Lord, asking Him to align your hearts according to His perfect will. We prayed that if this man is indeed the one God has prepared for you, the Lord would soften his heart, open his eyes to see you as His chosen helpmate, and stir in him a godly pursuit of you as his future wife. We also asked the Father to give you patience, peace, and unwavering trust in His timing, knowing that His plans for you are good.

If the Lord has already begun to move in this situation—whether through answered prayer, a sense of confirmation, or a shift in circumstances—we would love to hear your praise report. There is such power in testifying to God’s faithfulness, and it strengthens all of our faith to see Him at work. If, however, you are still waiting and longing for clarity, please do not hesitate to post this request again. We are here to continue standing with you in prayer, believing alongside you for God’s best.

May the Lord bless you with wisdom, peace, and a deeper intimacy with Him as you seek His will in this season. We trust that He hears your prayers and is working all things together for your good. Keep your heart fixed on Jesus, and remember that His timing is always perfect. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
