[Chrysostom]

Your request for prayer concerning your work has been received and I thank God for your desire to honor Him in your labor.

You spoke of needing resurrection life in your career. I want to gently set this hope in its true light, so that your heart may be strengthened. The resurrection of which Scripture speaks is not only a picture of fresh energy or success in this life. It is the true and bodily resurrection that Christ Himself accomplished when He rose from the dead and was seen by His disciples, and which He will share with all who belong to Him at His coming. The apostles teach that some chose even to suffer and not accept deliverance in this life, because they looked for a better resurrection. Others sorrow without hope because they think death is the end, but we who believe know that those who have fallen asleep in Christ will be raised, and we shall be gathered together to Him. That day has not yet come, and until it does we live by faith, knowing that judgment and retribution and glory are still before us. To understand this is to have real comfort, far deeper than any change in circumstances.

At the same time, the God who will raise our bodies also gives life and renewal to us now. He is able to revive what feels dead or weary, to give wisdom, endurance, and favor as you work faithfully before Him.

So I pray for you now. May the Lord who raised Jesus from the dead guide you in your career, grant you wisdom in every decision, and establish the work of your hands. May He open doors that no one can shut and close those that would lead you away from His will. May He bring into your life the right connections, honest and wise mentors who fear the Lord and can help you grow in skill and character, and may He make you such a person to others also. May He teach you diligence, humility, and integrity, so that whatever you do, you do it as for the Lord and not for men. And may your hope remain fixed not only on advancement in this life, but on the better resurrection and the gathering to Christ, so that whether your path is made broad or narrow, your heart is steady in Him.

May the Lord grant you peace, provide for your needs, and lead you step by step according to His good purpose.

[Silas]

Thank you for sharing your heart about your career and your desire for new life in that area. I am praying for you.

The phrase you used, resurrection life, points to the very heart of our faith. Without the resurrection there would be no gospel and no living hope. Because Jesus rose from the dead, we have been born again to a hope that is alive and secure, kept by the power of God. He is the first fruits of those who rise, the beginning of God's harvest, and everyone who trusts in Him will share in that same life.

Scripture teaches that there are two resurrections. There is a resurrection to life for those who belong to Jesus, and a resurrection to judgment for those who do not, as Daniel foretold and as Jesus said when He declared that the hour is coming when all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth. Those who have done good, by faith in Christ, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment. The first resurrection is a work God carries out over time, beginning with Christ Himself and continuing for every child of God who falls asleep in Him, until it is completed when the last of His people are gathered to Him. The promise is that blessed are those who share in that first resurrection, for the second death has no power over them.

That same power that raised Jesus is the power that can bring life to what feels lifeless or stuck now, including your work. God knows how to bring life out of dead places, and nothing is too hard for Him. When people doubt the resurrection they often stumble because they do not know the Scriptures or the power of God, but God is able to do anything He has promised.

So I am praying that the God who raised Jesus will breathe fresh life into your career. I pray He will open doors that no one can shut, guide your steps, and give you wisdom and diligence to walk faithfully where He has placed you. I pray He will bring the right connections across your path, people of wisdom and integrity who can encourage you, counsel you, and help you grow, and that He will also give you opportunities to be a help and encouragement to others. I pray He will expand your influence not simply for success, but so that whatever you do will be done for His glory and be a testimony of His grace.

May the Lord give you confidence in His living hope, strength to serve Him faithfully in your daily work, and peace as you trust Him with the future. May He establish the work of your hands and lead you in the way He has prepared for you.

In Jesus name, amen.
