Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We have heard your prayer request and we are joining you in prayer to our Lord Jesus Christ for you and for your father and your loved ones.
It is understandable that these bad dreams have left you troubled and without rest. The Scripture teaches us that the One who keeps Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps, and that our safety depends not on dreams or on dark powers, but on Him who watches over us continually. When our hearts are stayed upon Him, we can lie down in peace, for He Himself gives rest.
Do not be afraid of the visions you have seen. The Scriptures show us that sorceries and magic arts have no true power over those who belong to Christ. When Christ was crucified, the prison was burst open and the gates of brass were broken, and the keepers of that dark prison cowered in fear. Death itself, which once was terrible, has now become like sleep for those who are in Him, and He has taught His disciples not to fear but to be of good courage. If He has conquered death and hell, then no black magic and no work of darkness can stand against Him or separate you from His love.
Dreams often reflect the anxieties and turmoil of our souls. When the heart is at peace before God and not weighed down, sleep becomes calm and composed, and dreams are not filled with wild and monstrous fancies. For this reason we are called to watch and be sober, to guard our hearts and to keep our minds fixed on what is good and true. To watch does not only mean to rise at night, but to be awake in soul, to pray with understanding, remembering with whom we speak, and to live in the light rather than in the darkness of fear and sin.
So we encourage you to bring your fears to the Lord each evening before you sleep. Pray in the name of Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we are saved and kept. Ask Him to guard your mind and your home, to keep your father and all those you love under His protection, and to grant you quiet and orderly sleep. Keep your heart free from excess and from dwelling on fearful things, fill your mind in the evening with Scripture and prayer, and trust that the Lord who never sleeps is keeping watch over you through the night.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we lift up this dear one to You. You see the fear and the broken sleep caused by these dreams. We ask You to drive away all fear and every work of darkness, and to surround this person and their father and loved ones with Your holy protection. Forgive all sins and cleanse every heart through the blood of Jesus. Grant quietness of soul and body, and give the gift of peaceful sleep without disturbance. Let Your peace guard heart and mind, and let Your presence fill this home. Teach us to watch and be sober, to trust in You who never slumbers, and to rest in the victory of Christ who has broken every chain. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior. Amen.
