Thank you for sharing this heavy burden and for caring enough to pray for your family member. Watching someone you love suffer in a destructive marriage is painful, and your desire to see them get right with Jesus shows you are praying for what matters most.
It is right to make their salvation the first focus of prayer. The deepest need any person has is not just relief from a difficult situation, but reconciliation with God. Physical healing or a change in circumstances can help for a time, but to enter heaven whole in spirit is far greater than any temporary improvement. Many people think that simply believing that God exists is enough, but Scripture makes clear that is not salvation. Salvation comes when a person believes into a vital, life changing relationship with Jesus Christ, trusting Him alone. There is no other provision God has made for sin. Jesus is the only way that sin is atoned for, and that relationship is the power of God unto salvation.
God sees this situation fully. Nothing is hidden from Him. He sees what others cannot see, the wounds in the family, the destructive patterns, and the heart behind them. He looks with compassion and sympathetic understanding, and only He can do the divine work of healing and transformation that is needed. We can be tempted to pray only about the symptoms, that the hurtful behavior would stop or that peace would return to the home, but the root issue is sin in the heart that needs repentance and new life in Christ.
When true conversion happens, there is evidence of change. Just as the tax collector who met Jesus showed his new heart by repentance and a desire to make restoration, a life that has truly turned to Christ begins to turn away from selfish and destructive ways. Pray that both your family member and their spouse would come to that place of honest repentance and faith, that they would not just acknowledge God but surrender to Jesus and be made new.
There is also comfort in knowing that when we follow Jesus we are brought into the family of God, a bond that through Christ can be even deeper than natural family ties. That does not remove the pain of seeing blood relatives suffer, but it means you are not alone as you intercede, and God can surround you and your family with His love and support as you continue to pray.
We join you in praying that God would draw your family member into that saving relationship with Jesus, that He would bring conviction where there is destructive behavior, grant repentance and healing, protect those who are vulnerable, and give you wisdom to love truthfully and to point constantly to Christ. May the Lord do His gracious work of salvation and bring restoration according to His will.
