Pray I get time with the guy I like

We understand your desire to get to know this young man better and we join you in bringing this before the Lord to seek His will together in Jesus name.

We notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to God. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we are told there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not yet put your trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior, we encourage you to believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead and confess Him as Lord, for Romans 10:9 says if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is through Jesus alone that our prayers are heard and our lives are made right with God.

We pray with you about this interest in your heart. We know the Lord sees your desire for companionship and we want to encourage you to delight yourself first in Him. Psalm 37:4 says Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. We also encourage you to ask for wisdom, for James 1:5 says if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Regarding getting to know this young man, we want to encourage you to view this through a biblical lens of courtship with the goal of marriage. We believe in the sanctity of marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman as God designed it, and we pray for godly marriages that honor Him. Being a boyfriend or girlfriend should be considered courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, not simply spending time together to see how you feel. Therefore we encourage you to seek first whether this young man is a born again believer who loves the Lord and walks in obedience to Him. 2 Corinthians 6:14 warns Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship do righteousness and iniquity have. If he does not share your faith in Christ, we would encourage you not to pursue a romantic interest, but to pray for his salvation and keep the relationship as friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.

We also want to encourage you to guard your heart, for Proverbs 4:23 says Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. Getting to know someone is best done in godly, accountable settings, with time together in groups, in public, with family or trusted believers present, rather than isolated time alone that can lead to temptation. Scripture is clear that sex before or outside of marriage is fornication and that we are to flee from it. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. And 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 says for this is the will of God, your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor. Any time spent together should be pure, honoring to God, and keeping marriage in view as the only place God has ordained for romantic and physical intimacy.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. You know the desires of her heart and her interest in this young man. We ask that Your perfect will be done in this situation. If it is Your will for her to have time to get to know him in a pure and godly way, we ask that You open that door in Your timing and in a way that honors You. Give her wisdom and discernment to see his character, his faith, and whether he would be a godly husband who will love You and lead a family according to Your Word. Guard her heart from mere infatuation and help her to seek You first. Keep them both pure and help them to honor You with their bodies and minds. If this young man is not a believer or not the spouse You have for her, we pray You would close the door gently, give her peace, and turn her heart fully toward You and toward waiting for the godly spouse You may provide in Your perfect time. Help her to trust You and to find her contentment and joy in Christ above all else. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray, to seek counsel from mature believers and family, and to let any growing interest be tested by Scripture, prayer, and godly accountability. Trust the Lord to guide your steps and to provide what is best as you seek Him first.

We are glad you shared this with us. Wanting a little more time with someone you like, just to see who he really is and whether you would like to know him better, is a thoughtful and wise desire. It is good to want to move slowly and see clearly.

We have found that getting to know someone tends to go best when it stays unhurried and ordinary. When there is pressure to make something happen quickly it is harder to be yourself or to see the other person as he is. Steady, everyday interaction in normal settings gives both of you space to talk, to notice character, and to bring what you are learning to God for wisdom.

One simple next step that often helps is to look at where your lives already overlap naturally. If you share a church group, a class, a serving team, work, or mutual friends, that can be a low key place to have a brief conversation or to join an activity you would both be part of anyway. It keeps things natural, lets you learn how he treats others and how you feel around him, and leaves room for God to open or close doors without forcing a big moment. We are praying you will have calm confidence as you take those small steps, without feeling you have to impress or figure everything out at once.

Father, we lift our friend to You today. You know her heart and this interest she has. Give her peace as she waits and wisdom as she listens and learns. Provide natural opportunities to talk if that is good, and give clarity and contentment with Your timing. Help her to be herself and to see clearly. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a wise and right thing to bring the desires of your heart before the Lord in prayer, rather than to follow only your own inclination, and we are glad you have done so.

You ask for time to know this young man better, that you may discern whether a further affection is fitting. In such matters there is great need of that patience which the Scriptures both inculcate and produce. You have heard of the patience of Job, who was greatly tried and yet waited upon God, and you must never forget that as soon as we are saved we come under the discipline of Christ and a part of that discipline lies in the exercise of patience. Do not be in haste to force open a door which the Lord Himself must open. Feeding upon the patience of the Scriptures in meditation and prayer, you will find reproduced in you a quiet submission to the Lord's timing, which is the patience of a child who believes in his father's love.

Take heed also how you seek this time together. The most blessed way is that which is hedged about with prayer and watched over by godly friends and, where the Lord has given them, by godly parents. Godly people hedge the house in with their prayers, and who can tell what blessings God gives because of their intercessions. Seek counsel, walk in the light, and let all your conversation be in purity and modesty before the Lord. For while there is any uncleanness about a man or about a woman there cannot be peace with God, and such things must be given up if we would have acceptance with the Most High. Any time you spend together should be in a manner that honors Him, with others near, above reproach, and with the understanding that marriage, if it be the Lord's will for you, is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that all that belongs to it is to be kept within that covenant alone.

Our prayer for you is that the Lord Jesus Christ, through whom alone is salvation, would guide your steps, that He would give you a discerning heart and a calm spirit, that He would grant you such opportunities as are wise and pure and for your good, and withhold what would not be for His glory. May He keep you both in holiness, help you to seek first His kingdom, and make His will plain to you in His own time. If this acquaintance be of Him, may it be conducted in faith and obedience, and if not, may He give you contentment to wait upon Him who does all things well.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your request to have time to get to know this man better has been heard, and we join you in bringing it before the Lord in prayer.

It is good that you desire to know him and to discern wisely rather than to rush. Scripture teaches us that patience and hope belong together and strengthen one another, and both are nourished as we stay close to the Word of God. To love God is to endure and not be troubled, to wait with patience even as Christ waited and endured, trusting the Father's timing.

Patience is not shown in two or three days but over much time. Often unbelief comes not from lack of hope but from faintheartedness and lack of patience, when we grow weary of waiting for what God has promised. True faith is to believe God is worthy of trust even when He does not answer immediately, and to not despair while He works. In that waiting, God reveals character, both his and yours, and He keeps you from vain sorrows.

So we will pray that if it is the Lord's will, He will open a right and honorable way for you to spend time together in a manner that is pure, wise, and accountable before others. We will pray that your time together, if God grants it, would be in the light, with the counsel and presence of your church family, guarding purity and keeping the purpose of marriage in view as God designed it, a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman where love and faithfulness dwell. We will pray that you both seek Christ first, that you would look for faith, kindness, self control and love for the Lord in one another, and that you would be honest and unhurried in getting to know each other.

Let us pray together. Father in heaven, we thank You that You know the desires of this heart and You care for Your children. Grant wisdom and discernment in this matter. If it is Your will, provide wholesome opportunities to talk and to learn one another's character in purity and with good witnesses. If it is not Your will, close the door gently and guard this heart from clinging to what is not best. Teach patience that does not faint, and hope that rests in You rather than in any person. Help both lives to be centered on Christ, to wait for You and to be prepared to do what pleases You. Keep this relationship, whatever form it takes, free from sin and full of respect, honesty and self control. Let Your will be done, and let Your peace rule. In the name of Jesus Christ we ask this, Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord daily in Scripture and prayer, seek counsel from mature believers who know you, and trust His timing to make all things clear.
