We join you in lifting up this man before the Lord and we thank God for your desire to see him transformed by Christ and for your willingness to seek God's will and protection in this season.
We hear your heart for his salvation and renewal, that he would accept correction, seek the Lord, and be filled with the Holy Spirit, and we agree with you that only Christ can break patterns of pride and selfishness. The Scripture says, I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you, Ezekiel 36:26, and, Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new, 2 Corinthians 5:17. We pray that God would do this deep work in him, that he would be transformed by the renewing of his mind, Romans 12:2, and bear the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control, Galatians 5:22-23. What you describe as narcissistic behavior the Bible describes as pride and selfish ambition, and we know that God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble, James 4:6, and calls us to do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but in humility consider others better than ourselves, Philippians 2:3. True change will require his humble repentance, his personal surrender to Jesus Christ as Lord, and his daily submission to the Holy Spirit, not merely behavior modification.
We also want to lovingly speak truth over your relationship with this man as you have given him another chance. We believe courtship should be intentional toward godly marriage between a man and a woman for life, and that we should not simply maintain a relationship or partnership without that clear and biblical purpose. If you are pursuing marriage, it must be with a fellow believer, for we are told not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, 2 Corinthians 6:14, and it must be marked by purity. If there has been sexual intimacy outside of marriage, Scripture calls it fornication and tells us to flee sexual immorality, 1 Corinthians 6:18, and to let marriage be held in honor among all, Hebrews 13:4. We encourage you to set clear, godly boundaries, to seek wise and mature Christian counsel and accountability, and to look for lasting fruit of repentance in him over time rather than quickly reopening old patterns that you had been freed from. Love is kind and does not enable sin, and forgiveness does not require removing consequences or returning to an unhealthy dynamic without evidence of real transformation.
We also hear your prayer to not take control of what only God can correct, and to know when to speak truth and when to remain quiet. That is wisdom from above and we pray God grants it to you richly, for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, James 1:5. We pray you will trust in the Lord with all your heart, and not lean on your own understanding, Proverbs 3:5-6, and that you will be guarded and empowered by Christ in you. The enemy seeks to deceive and bind, but we know that greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world, 1 John 4:4, and that when we submit ourselves to God and resist the devil, he will flee from us, James 4:7. The Lord is your refuge and protector, for he who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty, Psalm 91:1.
We pray together now, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we can be saved and have access to Your throne, Acts 4:12, John 14:6. We lift up this man to You and ask for his complete transformation. Give him a new heart like that of Christ, open his eyes to see his need for You, grant him godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that Christ may increase and he may decrease. Break every chain of pride, selfishness, and deception, and let no weapon of the enemy have authority over him. Teach him to love correction and to walk in humility, gentleness, and kindness, Ephesians 4:2, Ephesians 4:32. Lord, we also lift up Your daughter who prays. Cover her, guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:7, guide her steps, give her discernment and strength to speak truth in love when needed and to be still when You call her to wait. Keep her from striving to control what only You can change, and hold her up by Your righteous hand, Isaiah 41:10. Lead this courtship according to Your perfect will, and if it is to continue, let it be toward a holy marriage that honors You, pure, patient, and centered on Christ. If it is not Your will, give her courage to step away and trust Your better plan. We ask for Your protection, Your peace, and Your transforming power over both lives, that You alone would be glorified. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.
