The fever that has burned these five days, the fall that caused such alarm, the vomiting that followed, these are like the bitter waters of Marah, but cast this divine tree into them, and learn how it will sweeten them. The power of the Lord is present to heal, and none shall say unto the healing flood of His love, "Up to here can you go and no further." The least thing about Christ is healing, His very leaves are for the healing of the nations. The costly balm of His Atonement has lost none of its power, and from a pardoning God there are such mercies that we suddenly find our spirits revive.
For the little one, remember what is spoken of infants. It is well with the child, for where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. The ways of grace render it impossible that an infant soul should be destroyed. He stops, He looks, and He pronounces the royal word, "Live." There speaks a God. Those faces in heaven, fresher than newborn babes, owe their freshness to these healing leaves. The Sun of Righteousness arises with healing in His wings, and when Jesus healed, pardon and healing were one. Ask to be forgiven, and healing will come from the pardoning hand.
To the parents, I would have you see the utter inability of that deserted infant in Ezekiel, what could it do for itself?, and know that divine grace alone can lift us from ruin. Yet the promise stands: He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. This is not merely a word for the tried, but an adage from God for your very household. God takes care of the little things, the trifles, and He sends promised protection. You have asked that angels guard her, and it is a blessed truth that He gives His angels charge. But the deeper charge is upon you. The wisdom given to build the temple came from above; so must the wisdom to care for this child. Let the green tree not dry up by neglect, but be fostered by the Husbandman. Seek to have your heart established with divine grace, for then only are you in a fit state to be filled with His fulness.
It is a mercy that the healing power was present when Christ was teaching, and I bid you search the Scriptures, for so shall you grow healthy, strong, and vigorous in the divine life. Pray, and remember in your prayers those who preach the Word to you, for what can they do without divine assistance? Yet, above all, cry out for the child. The utmost length of human sickness can be reached by this great Physician. Have confidence in the Divine Healer. He owns no partial power; at one sudden sweep of the divine wave of mercy, the malady is borne away. The building of the temple was a mighty work, but the stones were fashioned, and the top stone brought out with shoutings. So shall this trial be ended, and you shall see that the dry tree by divine grace shall flourish. God bless you.
