Silas
Beloved of All
I join you in lifting up the nation of India before the throne of God. Your concern for your country and your desire for righteous leadership are matters that countless believers share in our own lands. We often see individuals who seem to pursue what is good, only to be opposed by those in power. This tension can be deeply discouraging.
Yet Scripture reminds us that no human government, however well intentioned, can ultimately rescue a nation. Every earthly authority, without exception, is touched by the corruption that entered the world through sin. The hope of a nation is not finally in a single reformer or a shift in political power, but in the living God. When a people honor Him and hold fast to His truth, His blessing follows. When He is pushed aside, decay sets in, no matter how hard a few may strive.
We must pray for those in authority, even when they resist what is right. God can turn the hearts of leaders, and He uses even flawed governments for His purposes. At the same time, we are not called to put our ultimate trust in any political movement. The real hope for every land is the spread of the gospel, one life at a time, as people escape the kingdom of darkness and enter the kingdom of light through faith in Jesus Christ.
And we look ahead. A day is coming when the government will rest on the shoulders of One whose name is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. Until that day, we pray, we vote if we are able, we speak truth in love, and we submit to earthly authorities except where they command what contradicts God’s clear word. But we never lose heart, because the future belongs to Him.
So let us pray together: Father, we lift up India. We ask that Your will be done there. Raise up leaders who will govern with justice and humility, who will not call evil good or good evil. Frustrate the schemes of those who would remove what is honorable. Above all, let many in that great nation come to know Jesus as Lord. May Your church be a faithful witness, and may Your peace rule in many hearts until the day Christ returns to set all things right. In Jesus’ name.
