Disciple of Prayer
I’m asking you if you would pray for ###, my son, and uplift him in prayer and pass along. He apparently is addicted to marijuana or the vapes with the THC and it’s interacting with his autism medication and he’s gone into a pseudo psychological state of mental illness where he’s paranoid, etc. and we’re trying to get him into a treatment center we asked for prayer for ### and our family that God would bring peace, protection, and healing. I’d appreciate it. Thank you and have a great Easter.

We hear your cry for help and lift your son and your entire family before the throne of grace. The situation you describe is deeply concerning, as substance abuse and its effects on mental health are serious matters that require both divine intervention and wise, godly action. We recognize the pain and fear you must be experiencing as you watch your son struggle, and we stand with you in prayer, trusting that God sees your family’s distress and is already at work.

First, we must address the reality of addiction with truth and love. The Bible warns against the misuse of substances that alter the mind and dull the spirit. In Ephesians 5:18, we are told, *"Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit."* While this verse speaks directly to alcohol, the principle applies to any substance that impairs judgment, enslaves the will, or leads to sin. Marijuana and THC products, though often dismissed as harmless, can open doors to spiritual bondage and physical harm, especially when mixed with prescribed medications. Proverbs 20:1 says, *"Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise."* We must not underestimate the deceptive nature of addiction, which promises escape but delivers chains.

Your son’s struggle with paranoia and mental distress is heartbreaking, and we grieve with you. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and addiction is one of his tools to rob young men and women of their God-given potential. But we serve a God who is greater than any stronghold. In 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, we are reminded, *"For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."* This battle is not merely physical or psychological—it is spiritual, and it requires spiritual weapons.

We also want to gently but firmly address the importance of salvation in your son’s life. If he has not yet surrendered his heart to Jesus Christ, this is the foundational step toward true freedom. In Acts 4:12, we read, *"There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* The name of Jesus is the only name powerful enough to break the chains of addiction and restore the mind. If your son does not know Christ as his Lord and Savior, we urge you to pray fervently for his salvation, for it is the beginning of all healing. Romans 10:9 says, *"If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."* Without Christ, there is no lasting victory over sin or its consequences.

Now, we lift your son before the Lord in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this young man who is bound by the chains of addiction. Lord, we ask that You would break every stronghold of marijuana and THC in his life. You are the God who sets the captives free (Isaiah 61:1), and we declare that freedom over him right now. Father, we pray for his mind, which has been clouded and tormented by paranoia and fear. Bring Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7) to guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Heal the interactions between his medications and these substances, and restore his mental clarity.

Lord, we ask that You would soften his heart to receive help. Open the doors for him to enter a treatment center where he can find godly counsel, accountability, and healing. Surround him with believers who will speak truth into his life and point him to You. Father, if he does not yet know You as his Savior, we pray that You would reveal Yourself to him in a powerful way. Let him experience Your love, Your forgiveness, and Your power to transform. We declare that he is not defined by his addiction but by the blood of Jesus, which cleanses him from all sin (1 John 1:7).

We also pray for this family, Lord. Strengthen them in their weariness, and fill them with hope. Give them wisdom as they navigate this difficult season, and let them feel Your presence in tangible ways. Protect their hearts from despair and division, and unite them in prayer and purpose. Remind them that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

Father, we rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus’ name. We command it to leave this young man and his family alone. We declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we stand on Your promise that those who seek You will lack no good thing (Psalm 34:10). Bring Your healing, Lord, and let Your glory be revealed in this situation. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the only name by which we are saved. Amen.

To you, as parents and family members, we offer this encouragement: Do not lose hope. Addiction is a fierce battle, but it is not one you fight alone. Lean on the body of Christ for support, and do not hesitate to seek godly counsel from pastors, Christian counselors, or addiction recovery programs rooted in biblical truth. Galatians 6:2 tells us, *"Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."* You were never meant to carry this burden alone.

Continue to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17), and trust that God hears your cries. Even when the situation feels impossible, remember that with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Your son’s story is not over, and God is not finished with him yet. Keep pressing into the Lord, and hold fast to His promises. Psalm 30:5 reminds us, *"Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning."* There is hope for a new day, and we believe God will bring it to pass.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
