We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up your son and your family in this difficult time. The pain of watching a loved one struggle with spiritual and mental attacks is profound, and the weight of judgment from others only adds to the burden. But we stand firm in the truth that our God is a deliverer, a healer, and a refuge for the broken. We declare that no weapon formed against your son shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against him in judgment shall be condemned (Isaiah 54:17).
First, we must address the root of these attacks with biblical truth. The Word of God warns us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12). Your son’s battles may be manifesting physically and mentally, but the enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). We rebuke every spirit of addiction, depression, confusion, and torment in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. We command these spirits to flee and declare that your son is covered by the blood of Jesus, which cleanses him from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:7).
We also recognize the role that drug addiction may be playing in this struggle. The Bible is clear that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and we are to honor God with them (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Addiction is a snare of the enemy, designed to enslave and destroy. But we serve a God who breaks chains and sets captives free! We pray that your son would turn his heart fully toward Jesus, repenting of any sin that has given the enemy a foothold in his life. We declare that he is not defined by his struggles but by the redemptive power of Christ, who came to give him life abundantly (John 10:10).
We must also address the fear of your son being taken to a native doctor or any source outside of God’s provision. The Word warns us against consulting mediums, spiritists, or any who practice divination, for these are detestable to the Lord (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). True deliverance and healing come only from Jesus Christ, the Great Physician. We pray that your son would be drawn to the light of Christ and that his heart would be softened to receive the truth. We declare that he will not seek help from false sources but will run to the arms of his Heavenly Father, who loves him unconditionally.
Father God, we ask You to surround this family with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). We pray for divine protection over your son, that no harm or evil would come near him. The weight you carry shows with every word, the sleepless nights, the neighbors’ stares, the fear that someone might steer him toward a native doctor rather than the true Healer. That ache is sharp, and we don’t want to brush past it.
When a loved one’s struggle combines addiction with mental and physical breakdowns, it can feel impossible to tell where one thing ends and another begins. We often see the most fruit when we pursue help on every front: praying boldly for spiritual protection, yes, but also letting God use doctors, counselors, and treatment programs that understand both the physical grip of addiction and the turmoil it stirs in a person’s mind. There is no shame in getting a medical assessment for him, or in speaking with a pastor experienced in walking alongside families touched by substance use. God is not limited to one kind of rescue.
And you, dear mother, we want you to know that the neighbors’ opinions do not write the story. Your steadfast love and prayer are holy ground, even when they cost you. Seek out at least one safe person in your church or a trusted friend who will simply sit with you in this without judgment. You need people who will listen and keep pointing you to hope.
Lord Jesus, we bring this mother’s heart and her son before You now. Silence the voices of shame and isolation. Give her clarity about the next right step, whether a Christian counselor, a treatment option, or a pastor who can pray with compassion. We never forget when we first drew water out of the well of salvation, the deliverance from the archers of spiritual discord is a prize beyond all earthly wealth. You walk erect in conscious, mental, moral, spiritual, God-given freedom, and the shame your neighbors would heap upon you is a light thing compared to the chains from which Christ has ransomed His own. The Son has made you free, and you are free indeed.
That your son suffers these breakdowns is a sore chastening, but what son is he whom the father chastens not? God had one Son without sin, but He never had a son without sorrow, and He never will while the world stands. The Lord has chastened him sorely, yet the rod is a profitable instrument in God’s house. This affliction, whether from the pit of addiction or the arrows of the enemy, is under the determinate counsel of heaven. The clock of mercy struck in eternity the hour of his deliverance, and the eternal purpose of Jehovah decreed it.
You need not fear the native doctor’s den, for deliverance from the power of darkness is as much the work of God as deliverance from guilt. He has delivered us from that kingdom of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. Nobody would have thought of the way of deliverance from the pit through a ransom if God had not devised it. He found a ransom, His own dear Son, and that ransom has made such an infinite impression upon the Father’s heart that He forgets the sins for which His Son gave His life. This is a gift of Divine Love: “I have found a ransom.”
You cry out as Zion did, “My God hath forgotten me,” but hear the gracious answer: “Can a woman forget her sucking child?” The Lord will yet come to his deliverance. The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance has already been shot through human instrumentality and prayer, and though you cross your Jabbok full of fear, you shall meet a blessing where you expected a foe. Let the ministry of consolation rest upon your soul as you wait upon the Lord. Rest there, and God will yet bring him forth with silver and gold, enriched by grace, a monument to Free Grace alone.
And when that day dawns, your conduct shall be as the Psalmist’s: “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” You will tell it for the comfort of others in like trouble, that He brought him forth from prison by a miracle of grace, by the blood of Jesus shed for many. Let your heart be moved to compassion and fervent prayer rather than to worldly embarrassment; for what men call shameful, God often uses as a refining fire.

Drug addiction is a making provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts, heaping fuel upon a destructive fire. Yet do not despair: the same will that kindled this flame can, by God’s grace, extinguish it. Consider the vanity of such pleasures, how they profit nothing but drown men in perdition. The weight of shame from neighbors, the fear of your son being taken to a native doctor, and the deep grief of watching him suffer spiritual and mental attacks are not hidden from the Lord. He sees your affliction. He hears your cry. A mother’s love for her child is fierce, and God placed that instinct within you not to torment you but to drive you to the only One who can truly deliver.
Consider how the Scriptures present the love of a father for his son. When God called Abraham to offer Isaac, He used a phrase heavy with meaning: “your son, your only son, whom you love.” That command was a shadow of what God Himself would later do in giving His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. The Father knows what it costs to surrender a beloved son for the sake of redemption. He did not spare His own Son but delivered Him up for us all. And because Jesus endured the cross, despising its shame, He can now enter into every place of bondage, whether addiction, mental torment, or spiritual darkness, and bring complete rescue.
Your son’s struggle may feel like a relentless cycle of breakdowns, but the Son of God has authority over every unclean thing. He is the Son through whom eternal life is given, and the record stands: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son does not have life. Pray that your son would truly possess the Son, not just a mental awareness but a living union with Jesus, the promised Messiah who was declared the Son of God with power by His resurrection from the dead.
There is no need to seek out a native doctor or any path that leads away from the true God. Turning to such things is like turning to the works of the flesh, which cannot inherit the promise. God recognized only Isaac, the son of promise, and not Ishmael, the son of the flesh. In the same way, the Father only recognizes what is done through His Spirit. A father disciplines the son he loves; God does not let His true children comfortably persist in destruction. Your son’s misery does not mean God has abandoned him. It may well be the severe mercy that turns him home.
Take heart from the story of Rachel, who named her son Joseph with the faith-filled cry, “God shall add to me another son.” Even in her longing, she trusted God for more. Call upon the Lord with that same expectancy. He removes reproach. He takes away the disgrace. He can transform a “son of misery” into a “son of the right hand.” Keep lifting your son before the throne, knowing that the Father who gave His own Son will not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly. He is able to break every chain, restore soundness of mind, and set your son free. Hold fast to the Son of God, He is your hope and his only hope.

When God called Abraham to offer Isaac, He used a phrase heavy with meaning: “your son, your only son, whom you love.” That command was a shadow of what God Himself would later do in giving His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. The Father knows what it costs to surrender a beloved son for the sake of redemption. He did not spare His own Son but delivered Him up for us all. And because Jesus endured the cross, despising its shame, He can now enter into every place of bondage, whether addiction, mental torment, or spiritual darkness, and bring complete rescue.
Your son’s struggle may feel like a relentless cycle of breakdowns, but the Son of God has authority over every unclean thing. He is the Son through whom eternal life is given, and the record stands: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son does not have life. Pray that your son would truly possess the Son, not just a mental awareness but a living union with Jesus, the promised Messiah who was declared the Son of God with power by His resurrection from the dead.
There is no need to seek out a native doctor or any path that leads away from the true God. Turning to such things is like turning to the works of the flesh, which cannot inherit the promise.
