Pray for this

Your burden before the Lord is right and good, and He hears the cry for truth and justice within His people. He is the true Shepherd who sees what is done in hidden places, and He cares deeply when those who claim to speak for Him use that trust to control, to belittle, or to lay heavy burdens on others that He never asked them to bear.

Scripture shows that God desires His called out people to be pure. The early church was taught to purge out the leaven of hypocrisy, because that hypocrisy spreads through the whole body. When impurity is allowed to remain, power is lost and the witness of the church is weakened. In fact much of the reason the world dismisses the church is because of this hypocrisy. The lack of power is not because God has withdrawn Himself, but because His people have not walked in purity and love. The pattern given in the book of Acts is still His desire for the church today, a people cleansed, loving, and filled with the power of His Spirit.

That is why God gives order for leadership. Those who oversee the church are to be spiritually mature men, proven over time, with a good reputation both inside the church and in the community outside. Scripture warns against lifting people into spiritual authority too quickly, before their character is formed, because pride and lack of faith then cause great harm. A leader who is proud or self willed will wound others, and that is never the heart of Christ who came to serve.

The Lord also warns that where love grows cold, His presence is grieved. He calls every church to repent where love is lacking, for without love the Spirit cannot work as He desires. History shows many failures on this point, and we have no defense for them. But God is merciful to expose what is hidden not to shame alone, but to bring conviction, humility, and healing. He shines light into dark places so that repentance can happen and true restoration can follow.

For the brother who has been wounded, the greater danger now is bitterness. Bitterness does not punish the one who caused the hurt, it only harms the one who holds it. Pray that God will guard his peace, his mind, his livelihood, and his faith, and keep his confidence anchored in Christ Himself rather than in flawed men. The Lord can use even painful pressure to spread His truth further, but His deepest desire is to heal the breach.

Joining with you, I pray that God will bring clear sighted humility where pride has ruled, softening hard hearts and leading to honest repentance. May He comfort the one who has stood for what is right, protect him from becoming hardened, and keep him close to Jesus so that he does not walk away from the faith. May He purify His people, remove what does not belong, and make His house truly a place where His grace and love are seen, so that trust can be rebuilt in His time and in His way.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf and we are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer before our Sovereign and Just Shepherd.

We have continued to lift up this heavy hearted burden with you, the deep pain and fracture within your cathedral community, and the misuse of spiritual authority that has wounded a brother and placed heavy burdens upon his livelihood and faith. We have asked the Lord who loves truth and justice to shine His light into hidden places, to bring conviction where pride or heavy handed counsel has caused harm, to soften hard hearts, to grant humility and repentance where it is needed, and to guard and comfort our brother and protect his peace and his walk with You.

We are trusting the promise that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted as written in Psalm 34:18 and that He calls His shepherds to serve not by lording over others but with humility as written in 1 Peter 5:2.

If your request was answered and the Lord has begun to bring healing, restoration, conviction or reconciliation in your community, please post a praise report and let us all know so we may rejoice with you.

If your request does not seem to have been answered and the breach still remains and the hurt is still present, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer.

We pray together that God will heal what is broken, rectify what is wrong, do a work of purification in your midst, protect this brother from bitterness and keep his confidence anchored securely in Christ, and make His house truly a place where His love is revealed.

May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray this in Jesus Name, Amen.
