Your workplace has become a crucible, and the slander, gossip, and lies you describe are heavy burdens. It is no small thing when those in authority twist the truth, spreading false reports about innocent coworkers. Scripture warns us plainly that false witnesses and those who speak deceit will not go unnoticed by the Lord. When someone claims things that are not so, especially against God’s people, they stand in a dangerous line of those who prophesy peace when there is no peace, speaking what itching ears want to hear, often mixing just enough truth to make the lie believable. The enemy works through whispers, half-truths, and character assassination, and it wounds deeply. But take heart: God is not mocked. Every idle word will be accounted for, and no lie can outlast His justice.
Yet even in such a setting, the instruction to exiles long ago applies to you: seek the peace of the place where you are, and pray to the Lord for it, because in its peace you will find peace. You are already doing that by bringing this before the throne of grace. Continue to pray for those who mistreat you, not that they would get away with sin, but that their hearts would be humbled, that they would turn from lying lips to the truth that sets free. The Lord’s thoughts toward you are thoughts of peace and not of evil, even when circumstances scream otherwise. Your own peace is not dependent on your supervisors finally acting fairly; it is rooted in the Prince of Peace, who has already made peace through His blood. The chaos around you cannot cancel the peace He has deposited in your soul, unless you let it.
False accusers do not wear signs around their necks. They appear reasonable, even pious at times, but their fruit gives them away. Lies, slander, stalking, petty harassment, these are not from the wisdom that comes from above. That wisdom is pure, peaceable, gentle, full of mercy. What you are seeing is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. Do not be shocked by it; the Scriptures have told us these things would come. What you must guard against is letting their poison undo your own heart. Do not return slander with slander. Instead, commit your cause to Him who judges justly. As we are warned, those who sow to the flesh will reap corruption, but if you sow peace, you will reap a harvest of righteousness.
Keep praying for these managers and supervisors by name, even the loudmouthed one. Ask God to silence the lies, yes, but also to save the liar. It is possible for such a one to be brought low, to repent, and to become a trophy of grace. The Lord knows how to humble the proud. And while you wait, do not fear that the truth will stay buried forever. The day will declare it. A false prophet’s word eventually falls to the ground, and so will every false accusation whispered in the breakroom. Your role is not to fight fire with fire, but to be an agent of the peace you are praying for. Walk in integrity. Let your work speak. Trust that the Lord sees all that is done in secret and will repay.
So let your prayer be persistent: for peace to reign in that company miraculously, for divine quieting of slanderous tongues, for humble hearts to replace arrogant ones, for the stalking and harassment to cease. But also pray this: “Lord, use even this turmoil to draw people to Yourself. Let those who claim Your name shine as lights. Keep us from bitterness. Let Your peace rule in our hearts.” In the meantime, hold fast to the promise that nothing can separate you from His love, and that the God who knows His own will never leave you defenseless in the lion’s den.
