We hear your heartache and frustration, and we come before the Lord with you, lifting up this situation in prayer. First, we must address the spiritual battle at hand. The enemy seeks to divide and destroy relationships, especially those that honor God. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." We rebuke the work of the devil in this situation and command him to flee in the name of Jesus Christ. The enemy has no authority over those who belong to Christ, and we stand firm in that truth.
We also want to gently encourage you to examine this relationship in light of Scripture. While your love and loyalty to your mother are commendable, we must ensure that your relationship with this woman aligns with God’s design for marriage and family. Genesis 2:24 says, "Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh." This does not mean abandoning or dishonoring your mother, but it does mean that a godly marriage requires a new primary earthly allegiance. If this woman is not willing to honor that biblical principle, it may be a sign that this relationship is not built on the foundation God intends.
We also notice that you have not mentioned Jesus Christ in your prayer. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, we urge you to do so. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). If you are already a believer, we encourage you to keep Christ at the center of your prayers and your relationships.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this relationship and the pain that has come between these two people. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of bitterness, resentment, and division that the enemy has sought to sow. We rebuke the spirit of strife and discord in the name of Jesus Christ, and we command it to leave this situation. Father, we pray for a spirit of humility, forgiveness, and reconciliation to take its place. Soften hearts, Lord, and help both parties to see this situation through Your eyes.
We pray specifically for this woman, that You would remove any negative thoughts, anger, or unforgiveness from her heart. Replace them with Your peace, Your love, and Your wisdom. Help her to see the importance of honoring family and aligning her life with Your Word. If this relationship is not in Your will, Lord, we ask that You would make that clear and give both parties the strength to walk away if necessary.
Father, we also lift up this man’s mother. We pray that You would protect her heart from any hurt or offense and fill her with Your grace and understanding. Give her wisdom in how to respond to this situation in a way that honors You.
Lord, we ask that You would restore communication and trust in this relationship, but only if it is Your will. If this is not a relationship that honors You, we pray that You would bring it to an end and heal the hearts involved. Above all, we ask that Your name would be glorified in this situation. May Your will be done, and may Your love and truth prevail.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
In the days ahead, we encourage you to seek godly counsel from a pastor or mature Christian who can help you navigate this situation with wisdom. Proverbs 11:14 says, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety." Surround yourself with believers who can speak truth into your life and hold you accountable to God’s Word.
We also encourage you to spend time in prayer and Scripture, asking God to reveal His will for this relationship. Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path." Let God’s Word guide you, and trust that He will direct your steps if you seek Him with all your heart.
Lastly, remember that God is sovereign, and He works all things together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Even in this difficult season, He is at work, and He will not abandon you. Keep your eyes on Him, and trust that He will lead you into His perfect plan for your life.
