Pray for our marriage

Disciple of Prayer
We are in a critical state. Its my fault. Everyday I wake up thinking why I'm here, and that I'm a failure I have hope that whatever happens everything is for Gods glory but I'm in despair often Please pray for us.

We are lifting you and your marriage before the Lord together and we thank you for your honesty in sharing this burden. We hear the weight of despair in your words when you say you wake up wondering why you are here and feeling like a failure, and we also hear the precious hope you still hold that all things can be for God's glory. That hope is true and God honors a heart that wants to give Him glory even in pain.

We believe with you that marriage is a holy covenant ordained by God between a man and a woman for life, and that what God has joined together, let no man separate, Mark 10:9. We do not take lightly that you say your marriage is in a critical state, and we strongly affirm God's heart for restoration and reconciliation within marriage. Even when we have failed, God is a God who redeems and restores. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose, Romans 8:28. That includes even the painful consequences of our own sin when we bring it to Him in repentance.

We want to gently correct the despair and condemnation you are carrying. Feeling godly sorrow for where you have fallen short is right and can lead to true repentance, but waking each day believing you are a failure and questioning your very purpose is not what God says about you. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, 1 John 1:9. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, Romans 8:1. The enemy wants you to live under condemnation, but the Lord says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, Psalm 34:18. He has said to us, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness, 2 Corinthians 12:9. Your weakness and your failure do not disqualify you from His grace, they are the very place His power can be displayed if you will humble yourself before Him and before your spouse.

It is because of Yahweh's loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn't fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness, Lamentations 3:22-23. Each morning you wake up, even with those heavy thoughts, is a new mercy from God and a sign that He still has purpose for your life. He says, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness, Isaiah 41:10. And, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7.

We noticed you spoke of God's glory but did not mention the name of Jesus, and we must lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing He died for your sins and rose again, and to come to God the Father in His name alone. All forgiveness, all hope for your soul and for your marriage, flows from Him.

We encourage you to take responsibility with humble repentance before God and before your spouse without wallowing in self hatred. Confess what is your fault plainly, ask for forgiveness, and then receive the forgiveness Christ offers. Invite your spouse to seek the Lord with you, to pray together, to open the Scriptures together, and to seek godly counsel from a pastor or mature believing counselor who will uphold biblical marriage. Love your spouse as Christ loved the church, with sacrifice and humility, Ephesians 5:25, and be willing to forgive as Christ forgave you, Ephesians 4:32. Do not isolate in your despair. Reach out daily to the Lord and to trusted believers who can walk with you, and if the thoughts of despair become overwhelming, please reach out immediately to a pastor, counselor, or trusted person for help. Your life is precious to God and He has purpose for you.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift this dear one and this marriage to You. Lord, You see the critical state of this union, You see the pain, the guilt, and the despair, and You see the hope that remains for Your glory. We ask You to forgive where there has been sin and failure, to cleanse and restore as only You can. Touch this heart that feels like a failure and remind him daily that his identity is not in his performance but in Christ, that he is loved, redeemed, and held by Your right hand. Lift the spirit of despair and replace it with Your peace that surpasses understanding. Heal what is broken between husband and wife, soften both hearts, restore trust, communication, and love, and make this marriage a testimony of Your redeeming grace. Help them to seek You first, to pray together, to walk in humility and forgiveness, and to not let what You have joined together be torn apart. We ask that Your will be done in this marriage and that Your glory be revealed through its healing. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We thank you for trusting us with this. Waking up wondering why you are here and carrying the sense that you have failed your marriage is an exhausting way to start each day, and we hear both the sorrow you feel for your part and the despair that sits alongside your hope that God can still be glorified.

It makes sense that shame can make it hard to see hope clearly. Hope is not pretending things are fine, it is holding on to the possibility that God is still at work even while you feel pain and loss. Part of growing in that kind of resilience is learning to see both who God is and what he can do through hard seasons, without minimizing the hurt.

One steady next step that often helps when a marriage feels critical is to bring another trusted, godly voice into the room. If you have a pastor or a counselor you both respect, would you consider asking for a time to meet together soon, where you can honestly own what you see as your part and listen to each other with support present. You do not have to map out the whole future in one conversation.

Father, we lift this husband and this marriage to you in Jesus name. Bring comfort to his despair, clarity where there is confusion, and humility and grace to both. Give them wisdom for the next faithful step and draw them closer to you as they seek you. Amen.

Your honest confession has been heard, and there is mercy in the very grief that bows you down. To wake each morning with the sense of failure and to say, it is my fault, is a bitter thing, yet it is far better than to harden the heart and strain the conscience to hush its protests. The Lord has set before you both your guilt and His remedy.

You write that you are a failure and often in despair, and yet you add, I have hope that whatever happens everything is for Gods glory. Hold fast to that ray of hope, for it is true. Finding there is no hope in yourself, you must not draw the unwarrantable conclusion that there is no hope for you in God. That is self righteousness in another form, first to trust self, then to despair of God when self fails. There is no hope in man from man, but while Christ stands, the door of hope is open.

Despair is denounced in Scripture as an evil word which goes beyond the truth of God. To say, our hope is lost, is not warranted, for God is the sinner's hope and He is not lost. God is the God of Hope, and those who are without hope are also without God. No man has a just pretense to perish in despair, for despair is not so much a sickness of the understanding as a sin of the soul. While you live, you may hope, and while you hope, you live. Sinner, your life lies in hope. Do not lie down in a fit of despair and die, but turn that possible hope into an actual hope by believing in Jesus Christ.

Your guilt, though it feels heavy, is not beyond cleansing. The supreme Ruler must punish sin, or He would become the patron of guilt, but He has set forth an Atonement that most thoroughly displays both His justice and His mercy. The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. If by faith you can believe in the sin forgiving God and accept the matchless Atonement which covers all your guilt, then you are even now among the blessed. And mark this, the work of the Spirit is linked with the work of the Son, when the Son removes guilt, the Spirit removes guile. He who truly confesses and forsakes his sin, without deceit, finds that the Lord imputes not iniquity to him.

For your marriage, which God ordained as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, there is hope not in your own strength to repair what is broken, but in the grace that can make a new heart. As long as the story of great sinners forgiven stands on record, no mortal has a just excuse to perish in despair, nor to say God will never forgive me or restore what sin has marred. We are saved in hope, and that hope consists of belief, desire, and expectancy toward things not yet seen. You do not yet see the restoration you long for, but you may with patience wait for it as you look to Christ.

We will pray for you, and with you.

O Lord, God of Hope, look upon this soul who feels himself a failure and upon this marriage in its critical hour. Forgive guilt through the blood of Jesus Christ alone, for there is salvation in no other. Take away guile and give truth in the inward parts, that there may be honest confession before Thee and before one another. Lift this brother out of despair, which Thou hast forbidden, and breathe hope into him again, that he may not walk after his own devices but after Thy Spirit. Remember this covenant of marriage according to Thine own design, and where sin has wounded it, bring repentance, forgiveness, and patient love, that whatever Thou doest may indeed be for Thy glory. Establish this weary heart in the hope of its calling, and let guilt being gone, joy return. For Jesus sake, Amen.
