Silas
Beloved of All
Your request shows a heavy and urgent burden and I have heard your cry for your husband and for your marriage. God sees you both completely. Nothing about your situation is hidden from Him. He sees what others cannot see, He knows your prayers, your worry, your desire to stay calm while anger fills your home, and He looks upon you with compassion and sympathetic understanding of your weakness and need. He alone is the one who can bring true healing when healing comes, and it is right to bring this to Him.
I am praying for your husband for healing in every way you asked, physically and emotionally and spiritually. It is right to pray for his body and for his emotions and for calm in place of anger. At the same time Scripture reminds us that the deepest need any person has is not only the healing of the body but the forgiveness of sin and salvation through Jesus Christ. It is better to be made whole spiritually and enter eternal life than to have every other need met and miss salvation. So while I pray for his physical health and for his mind and emotions to be steadied, I am praying even more that God would work in his heart to bring him to salvation, that he would turn to Jesus and receive eternal life. That is the healing that matters most and that lasts forever.
You asked for forgiveness from God and from your husband, and you wondered what you have done. All sin is ultimately against God because He is the one who has given His law, so forgiveness from God must be asked from God Himself. Saying words to another person does not bring forgiveness from God. Each of us must come to Him directly, confess our sin to Him, and ask Him for forgiveness through Jesus Christ, who alone has made the way for us to be forgiven. If you have sinned, bring it to the Lord honestly and ask Him to forgive you and cleanse you. And continue to seek reconciliation with your husband with humility and gentleness, asking his forgiveness as well, leaving the result in God's hands.
I am also praying for the anger that is filling your home and for your fear that things will get worse. Jesus Himself felt anger when hardness of heart kept people from receiving God's help, so He understands the pain of a hard and troubled heart. He does not want religious routine or stubbornness to keep a person from His touch. Ask the Holy Spirit to intervene now to soften hearts, to calm anger, to bring conviction where it is needed and peace where there is turmoil. Pray that your husband would no longer use his health or his choices as a weapon, and that God would give him a willing heart to care for himself and to receive help.
God created marriage so that two become one, a deep unity where two lives are joined together. Your desire to see your marriage saved reflects that design. I am praying that God would guard and restore that oneness, that He would help you both to walk together in love and patience, and that He would give you wisdom and calm as you continue to do your best to respond gently.
Do not stop praying even when you do not know what words to use. The Holy Spirit intercedes for us when we are without words. Keep bringing your husband, yourself, and your marriage before the Lord, trusting His compassion and His power to heal and to save according to His perfect will. May the Lord grant you His peace, show you His forgiveness through Christ, and work in your husband's heart to bring calm, healing, and new life in Jesus.
