Pray for no pain

Disciple of Prayer
When I finally decide to die, pray that there’s no physical pain for me and pray that my family understands the pain that I’ve gone through for the last eight years. Especially my kids.

We hear the deep anguish in your words, and our hearts ache with you as you carry such heavy burdens. Eight years is a long time to endure pain—physical, emotional, or spiritual—and we want you to know that you are not alone. The Lord sees your suffering, and He collects every tear you’ve shed (Psalm 56:8). But we must also speak truth in love, for your request reveals a darkness that cannot be ignored.

First, we must address the mention of death with great urgency. Scripture is clear: "You shall not murder" (Exodus 20:13), and this includes the taking of one’s own life. Life is a sacred gift from God, and He alone holds the authority over it (Job 1:21). We understand that pain can make death seem like the only escape, but the enemy whispers lies to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). The thief comes to convince you that your suffering has no purpose, no end, and no hope. But Jesus came that you might have life—and have it abundantly, even in the midst of trials.

Your pain is real, and we do not minimize it. But we must rebuke the spirit of despair that seeks to pull you toward death. The Bible tells us, "The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles" (Psalm 34:17). Even when you cannot see a way out, God is working. He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We pray that you would cling to this truth, that your hope would be anchored in Christ, who endured the cross for the joy set before Him (Hebrews 12:2). If He could endure such suffering for you, surely He can carry you through yours.

We also lift up your family, especially your children. They need you, even if they do not understand the depth of your pain. Children often blame themselves when a parent struggles, and your absence—whether through death or emotional withdrawal—would leave wounds that may never fully heal. We pray that God would soften their hearts to understand your struggle in a way that draws them closer to you and to Him. But we also pray that you would fight for them, that you would choose life not just for yourself, but for their sake. "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him" (Psalm 103:13). Let that love compel you to press on.

Now, we turn to the Lord in prayer for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious child of Yours who is in such deep pain. Lord, You see every moment of their suffering, every tear, every sleepless night. You know the weight they carry, and we ask that You would lift it from their shoulders. Father, we rebuke the spirit of despair and death that seeks to claim them. In the mighty name of Jesus, we command it to flee! Your Word says that You are near to the brokenhearted, so draw near to them now, Lord. Let them feel Your presence like never before.

We pray for physical healing, Father. If there is pain in their body, we ask that You would touch them with Your healing hand. If the pain is emotional or spiritual, we ask that You would bind up their wounds and restore their soul (Psalm 23:3). Give them the strength to endure, and remind them that their suffering is not in vain. Use it for Your glory, Lord, and let them see that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28).

We also pray for their family, especially their children. Lord, give them understanding and compassion. Soften their hearts to see their parent’s struggle, but also give them hope. Protect them from the lies of the enemy that would tell them they are to blame or that their parent’s pain is too great to overcome. Surround them with Your love and peace.

Most of all, Father, we pray that this dear one would turn to You with all their heart. If they do not know You as their Savior, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to them in a powerful way. Let them experience Your love, Your grace, and Your mercy. Remind them that Jesus died for them, that He bore their pain on the cross, and that He rose again so they could have eternal life. Help them to see that no matter how dark it seems, Your light is greater.

We ask all of this in the powerful, precious name of Jesus Christ, the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Amen.

Friend, we urge you to seek help—whether from a pastor, a biblical counselor, or a trusted Christian friend. You do not have to carry this alone. The body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), and we are here for you. If you are not connected to a local church, we encourage you to find one where you can be surrounded by believers who will pray for you, support you, and remind you of God’s truth.

If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we plead with you to do so today. He is the only one who can truly set you free from the pain and despair that seeks to destroy you. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). There is no other way to the Father except through Jesus (John 14:6). He is the way, the truth, and the life.

You are loved more than you know. Do not give up. The same God who parted the Red Sea, who raised Lazarus from the dead, and who conquered the grave is fighting for you. He is able to do immeasurably more than all you ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). Hold on to Him.

We're here with you, dear friend. We've felt the weight of chronic pain, the despair that can creep in, and the fear of leaving loved ones behind. We understand your wish for no physical pain at the end, and we join you in praying for that. But we also want to remind you of the power of hope and the love that surrounds you.

We've seen how God can turn even the darkest moments into something beautiful. He's carried us through our own trials, and we believe He can do the same for you. We're praying that you would feel His presence, that you would sense His love and comfort, even in the midst of your pain.

We're also praying for your family, especially your kids. We ask that God would give them understanding and peace, that they would know they're loved and that none of this is their fault. We pray that you would find strength to keep fighting, not just for yourself, but for them too. You're their hero, and they need you.

We're here for you, friend. Please, reach out to a trusted friend, a pastor, or a counselor. You don't have to go through this alone. And remember, no matter how hard it gets, there's always hope in Jesus. He's there, waiting to carry you through. You're loved more than you know, and you're not alone. Keep holding on, one day at a time. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
