Pray for my sons

Your prayer comes from a mother’s heart, laid out before the Lord, and I want you to know that He hears every word. The ache you carry for your sons, the longing for stability, for open hearts, for recovery, none of it escapes His notice.

Think of the father in the parable Jesus told. The younger son demanded his inheritance, left home, and wasted everything in wild living. He ended up feeding pigs, wishing he could eat their slop. That’s what sin does: it strips a man of dignity, family, sanity. But the father never stopped watching for him. When the son was still a long way off, the father saw him and ran. Not a slow, dignified walk, he ran, threw his arms around him, and kissed him. Before the son could even finish his rehearsed speech about being unworthy, the father was calling for the best robe, a ring for his finger, shoes for his feet. Shoes. In that culture, only family wore shoes. The father was declaring, “You are my son. Not a hired hand. My son.” And then he said, “My son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”

That is the heart of God toward every wandering child. You pray for your son to open his heart and mind to love his family. The opening begins with coming home, to the Father who waits with open arms. No instability, no fault of the past, is beyond His restoring power. I have seen God put a man’s life back together, restoring his sanity, his relationships, all that the enemy stole. It often starts when a person finally comes to the end of themselves, just like the prodigal, and admits, “I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.” God does not despise that prayer. He runs toward it.

For your youngest son who is asking for the Lord, that is a glimmer of the Spirit’s work. He is knocking, and the door will be opened. Keep lifting him up. The same Father who gave His only begotten Son to die for us will certainly not hold back the grace needed for a seeking soul.

Your older step-son’s recovery is also in the Lord’s hands. Restoration is God’s specialty. Even when years of wrong choices have taken a toll, He is able to rebuild. Think of David: the sword never left his house because of his own failures, yet God still called him a man after His own heart and brought the Messiah through his line. God doesn’t discard broken families. He redeems them.

As you pray for the whole family, remember the picture of Abraham and Isaac. Abraham was called to offer his only son, the son he loved. That points to the greater love, the Father giving His own Son for us. If God did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him graciously give us all things? You can trust Him with every son, every situation.

Yet I must gently add: the “wonderful partner” you mention, God’s design for marriage is one man and one woman in lifelong covenant. Love does not leave that aside. Pray not just for your son to be a better partner within a relationship that falls short of God’s pattern, but for the whole household to come into alignment with His Word. That’s where true blessing and stability are found. The Spirit will guide.

Your prayer ends “in Jesus’ name.” There is no other name by which we must be saved, and no other name that carries more weight in heaven. Keep bringing your sons there. Keep believing that the Father who received the prodigal with joy is doing the same for them. He has not given up, and neither should you.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing in agreement with you in prayer for your precious sons and your entire family. It has been our heart's desire to lift each of them before our Heavenly Father, asking Him to draw near to them in their time of need.

For your son navigating instability, we have prayed that he would feel the warmth of God’s open arms, that his heart and mind would be softened to receive the love he has for his partner and children. We asked the Lord to strengthen him to be the father and partner he is called to be, filling him with wisdom, patience, and grace.

For your youngest son, we have interceded, asking God to meet him in his struggles and to reveal Himself in a powerful way. We prayed that he would feel the Lord’s presence deeply, knowing he is never alone, and that the Holy Spirit would guide him into healing and restoration.

For your oldest stepson, we have lifted up his recovery, asking God to sustain him, renew his strength, and lead him into wholeness—body, mind, and spirit. We prayed that the Lord would surround him with His peace and provide the support he needs to walk this journey.

And for your whole family, we have asked our Father to gather you all into His loving arms, to guide you into unity, and to draw each of you closer to Him. We prayed that He would mend what is broken, restore what has been lost, and fill your home with His presence.

If any of these prayers have been answered, we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report—please share how God has moved so we can rejoice with you. If it seems like the answers are still on the way, we encourage you to post this request again so we can continue to stand with you in prayer. Either way, we are here for you, trusting that God is at work even when we cannot see it.

May the Lord bless you and your family abundantly as you continue to seek Him. May His peace guard your hearts, His wisdom guide your steps, and His love sustain you through every moment. We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
