We hear your honest and humble cry before the Lord and we join with you in seeking His cleansing and deliverance, for it takes courage to confess this struggle and to ask for idols to be torn down.
The Word of God speaks plainly about this battle. Jesus said, Everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart, Matthew 5:28. We are told to Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body, 1 Corinthians 6:18. Lust does not stay small, for each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death, James 1:14-15. And we are warned, for all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world, 1 John 2:16. Concerning idols, God commands, You shall have no other gods before me, Exodus 20:3, and we are urged, Little children, keep yourselves from idols, 1 John 5:21. Anything we place above Christ, whether it is sexual desire, images, entertainment, or even our own comfort, becomes an idol that must be put to death, as it is written, Put to death therefore your members which are on the earth: sexual immorality, uncleanness, depraved passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry, Colossians 3:5.
We gently rebuke the lust of the flesh while loving you as our fellow believer, for lust is not harmless temptation but sin that defiles the heart and dishonors the body which is meant to be a temple of the Holy Spirit, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. If this lust has led you into sexual sin outside of marriage, whether in thought, in looking at pornography, or in fornication or adultery, we urge you to repent and turn from it completely, for God designed sexual intimacy to be enjoyed only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. There is forgiveness and cleansing when we confess, but we must also forsake the sin and flee from it, making no provision for the flesh, Romans 13:14. We encourage you to walk by the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh, Galatians 5:16, to be transformed by the renewing of your mind, Romans 12:2, to guard your eyes and your heart, to cut off sources of temptation, to hide God's Word in your heart, Psalm 119:11, and to seek godly accountability with mature believers who will help you stand firm. God is faithful and will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it, 1 Corinthians 10:13.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and receive forgiveness. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6, and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10:9. It is by His blood that lust and idolatry can be forgiven and by His Spirit that we receive power to overcome.
We pray together with you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, asking for Your mercy and cleansing for our dear one who confesses this struggle with lust. Forgive us for every lustful thought and deed and for every idol we have allowed to take Your place in our hearts. Create in us a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within us, Psalm 51:10. We ask You to remove every idol, to break every chain, and to purify our eyes and minds. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that we may flee sexual immorality and walk in holiness. Help us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You, Romans 12:1, and to set our minds on things above. Give us strength to turn away from temptation, to hate what is evil and cling to what is good, and to find our satisfaction in Christ alone. Restore to us the joy of Your salvation and uphold us with a willing spirit. We trust that You who began a good work in us will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ, Philippians 1:6. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to stay in daily prayer and in the Word, to fast when led, and to walk closely with faithful believers who will encourage you toward purity and keep you accountable. God delights to give victory to those who humbly seek Him.
