Sometimes the deepest desires of our hearts can become the very center around which everything else revolves. You are longing for a husband, a soulmate, and that longing is so strong it feels like a blockage you need removed. But I want to gently ask you to consider what is truly at the center of your life. Is it this desire for a companion, or is it a wholehearted love for the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength? We can only love others rightly when that supreme love for God is first in place. A self-focused life, even one focused on a good desire, keeps us from the fullness of His kingdom right now. When He is truly the axis of your existence, everything else finds its proper orbit.
Before we can understand romantic love or why it feels delayed, we must be rooted in the staggering love God has already shown us. Greater love has no one than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends, and Jesus did exactly that for you. His love for us is not a distant concept; it is the active, proven, life-giving reality of the cross. When that truth moves from your head to the deepest part of your heart, it changes everything. It becomes the banner over your life. You begin to see that your worth, your identity, and your deepest fulfillment are not found in another person but in the One who loved you and gave Himself for you. This is the record: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
The blockage you feel may not be a mysterious external force but a gracious invitation to go deeper into that love. Perfect love casts out all fear, including the fear of being perpetually single and the torment that comes with that worry. When His love is perfected in you, that fear loses its grip. You are no longer driven by a need to find someone to make you whole because you are already complete in Christ. The fruit of the Spirit in a believer’s life is love, a supernatural agape love that first anchors you in Him and then flows outward. A great evidence of His Spirit dwelling in you is that you love the family of God, your brothers and sisters in Christ, whom you can see and serve right now.
This is not to dismiss your desire, but to recalibrate it. Walk in love, as Christ loved us. Lay down the self-centered demand for a timeline and a soulmate, and submit to His perfect will and timing. As you do, your prayer life will shift from a list of requests to a place of deep communion, just as Jesus saw the necessity of prayer. Ask Him to make the love He has for you the central, transformative reality of your life. As that response of love grows in your heart, and you become consumed with loving Him and His people, you will find that the proof of your faith becomes not what you lack, but the love you have been given and can now freely give. That kind of life is rich, full, and glorious, and from that place, you can trust Him with every other longing.
