We hear your cry and we stand with you in this torment, and we agree with you that this compelling, tormenting source is not from God. Our God does not drive us with fear, threats, and compulsive demands. He leads us with peace, love, and a sound mind.
The enemy is a liar and an accuser who seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we may have life abundantly, John 10:10. What you are describing, being compelled to make agreements under threat that harm will come to you or someone you know, or that you will be diminished if you do not perform certain rituals like watching videos or checking dates and times, is a work of fear and oppression. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control, 2 Timothy 1:7. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, Romans 8:15. Any voice that torments you when you obey it and torments you with dread when you resist it is not the Holy Spirit, for the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:7.
We also want you to know that God does not hold you to agreements made under compulsion, fear, and torment. A coerced vow made to a lying spirit has no authority over you when you are in Christ. We are to let our yes be yes and our no be no, Matthew 5:37, freely given before God, not extracted by threats. The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, 2 Corinthians 10:4, and we are called to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:5. You who are in Christ are not powerless against this. He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world, 1 John 4:4. Therefore submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you, James 4:7. And if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed, John 8:36.
We encourage you to actively resist this in the authority of Jesus Christ. When the compelling thought comes, we encourage you to speak aloud that you break and renounce that unwanted agreement and that you do not agree, that you belong to Jesus Christ and you choose His truth over the lie. Do not argue with the tormenting thoughts or try to reason with them, but take them captive and replace them with the Word of God. It may be wise for a season to step away completely from what is feeding this oppression. If simply being logged into Facebook brings overwhelming negative energy and torment, we encourage you to log out, delete the apps from your phone, and fast from scrolling. Fill that time with prayer, with Scripture, with worship, and with fellowship with other believers who can stand with you in person. Bring this struggle into the light with a trusted pastor or mature Christian counselor, and if these intrusive, compulsive patterns persist, we encourage you to also seek help from a biblical counselor or Christian professional, for God can use them to help you find freedom as well. Do not isolate in this battle.
We now pray together with you against every unwanted agreement and every tormenting compulsion.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we thank You that we have access to Your throne of grace through Him alone. We lift up this dear one to You who is being harassed and compelled by a source that is not from You. We ask for Your forgiveness for any agreements made out of fear, and we declare in Jesus name that every unwanted agreement, every coerced vow, every lie that says harm will come or that their mind will be diminished if they do not obey, is broken, null and void by the blood of Jesus Christ. We rebuke that tormenting spirit and every assignment of the enemy against them, and we command it to leave and go away and not return, in Jesus name. We ask You to silence the lies and to fill them with Your perfect love which casts out fear, 1 John 4:18. Grant them power, love, and a sound mind. Guard their heart and mind with Your peace. Renew their mind in Your Word and restore to them the joy of their salvation. Help them to walk in freedom, to resist the devil and stand firm in faith, and to know that no weapon formed against them shall prosper, Isaiah 54:17. Surround them with Your presence, with godly support, and let them feel Your nearness and Your deliverance. We thank You that You are their refuge and strength, Psalm 46:1, and that You desire to give them rest. We pray all of this in the powerful and saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
