"While Confessing My Sins and The Sins of My Nation," Dan 9:20, "If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land," 2 Chron 7:14... Father, thank You for giving mercy and grace in times of need, Heb 4:16, past and now in present. Though we may yet need grace to confess in the future, we rather prefer to be done with all future sin, and were there a button to push representing that ability to delete all future sin prior to their occurring, we'd gladly press it without delay or hesitation... Yet since no such button exists, and the best of humanity and even Christians are still "humans," we are content with what remedy we have, namely the prescription to humbly confess and forsake them, and promises of not only that we'll find mercy, Prov 28:13, but cleansing from all unrighteousness, 1 Jn 1:9, and even contentment in Your presence, Heb 13:5, and promises of holiness, which we inherit by faith, Heb 4:2, even promises to do no wrong, 2 Cor 13:7, not stumble in what we say and control the whole body, James 3:2, even to walk as Jesus Himself, 1 Jn 2:6, 1 Jn 4:17. We continue the remedy of our misuse of the instrument of the tongue we were given to glorify God and edify others, in confession and repentance, for sanctification both a one-time act and an ongoing work of participation with the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, Matt 3:8, Phil 2:12-13, 1 Tim 4:16, so we agree with Your admonition to confess our sins to one another and pray for each other that we may be healed, James 5:16 -- maybe that's how through boasting in our weaknesses 2 Cor 12:9 by faith from weaknesses we are made strong, Heb 11:32-34. So in obedience to Your teaching through Hosea, we, "Take words with you, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, 'Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips as bulls" Hos 14:2.

Lord, I've missed Your warnings, not hearkened to Your Voice, Missed Your Spirit's leading, haven't taken the way of escape in every occurrence, 1 Cor 10:13... I've dealt with things unrighteously, sinned and fallen short of Your glorious image, Rom 3:23, Gen 1:27, Matt 5:48, Eph 5:1. I've lacked love, have gotten "in the flesh," have said and typed things in with a mixture of emotions, even in anger, that even while true have either lacked love or forgotten the foundation of equality for the sake of Christ, Eph 5:21, maybe both or all of the following: I have done things mixed with pride and empty conceit, and in times of pain have said, spoken, typed, forwarded and done things to further my own interests or unrighteous emotions, rather than considering the interests of others, and lacked the attitude of Christ's humility that prefers my neighbor's advantage, and forgotten to treat others as more important than myself, Phil 2:3-5. Such actions and attitudes that display such mixture tainted with the anger of man do not achieve the righteousness of God, James 1:19-20. Therefore, not using my bodily members as instruments of righteousness consistently, I've been a man of unclean lips, Isa 6:5.

Since our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them, transgressing and denying Yahweh, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood, Isa 59:12-13, at time, "Surely I have spoken of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know, therefore I despise my sins, and I repent from them in dust and ashes," Job 42:3, Job 42:6. Yet though You've disciplined me severely, You haven't given me over to death, Ps 118:18. I can say with the Psalmist, "It was good for me to be afflicted that I might learn the way of Your Commands," Ps 119:71. Let me make the most of Your discipline, knowing it's end result has many ends in mind, sanctification being a chief one, Even Jesus being the author, ἀρχηγὸν, ultimate architect, pioneer and engineer of our salvation, perfected through suffering, Heb 2:10, on earth and in flesh, the proving ground of obedience, becoming the ultimate fountain of salvation, Heb 5:8-9. Surely, there is One found Worthy, Rev 5:9.

Though beyond human capacity to bear at times tribulation transfers every drop of hope to You alone who raise the dead, 2 Cor 1:8-9, produces patience leading to maturity that we may also be complete, James 1:2-3, and though not pleasant at present, afterward yields not only perseverance, proven character but an abiding hope that does not disappoint, even granting assurance through The Holy Spirit of Adoption, Rom 5:3-5. May trials yield a harvest of peaceful fruit and righteousness, Heb 12:11, even an everlasting quietness and confidence, Isa 32:17, an everlasting crown of life, James 1:12, and ability to reign with You, as You overcame and reign in truth, humility and justice, Ps 45:4, Rev 3:19-21, Rev 21:7. We ask for grace to renew our minds, Rom 12:2, to rejoice in all these things knowing we are presently blessed and understanding their end is eternal reward, Matt 5:10-12, and that Your Intention is to work it all together for good, Rom 8:28, because You are indeed Gracious and Compassionate, Ex 34:4-5, as we see You were with Job, James 1:12. Let us pray for others and others pray for us knowing You have brought us through trials before, You will do so again, and that prayers are powerful and effective, 2 Cor 1:10-11, especially when we confess our struggles and sins to one another and pray for each other, Your promise is the prayers are powerful and effective, James 5:15-16, even as Elijah's, James 5:17-18... We come before the Lord with hearts heavy yet hopeful, acknowledging the profound truth that in our weakness, His power is made perfect. You have laid bare before Him the struggles of the tongue, the weight of sin, and the longing for holiness, a longing that reflects the very heart of God for His children. We stand with you in this confession, for we, too, are works in progress, reliant on the grace that flows from the cross.

The Scriptures you’ve cited reveal a deep understanding of the human condition and God’s redemptive plan. The tongue, though small, is a fire, a world of iniquity that sets ablaze the course of our lives (James 3:5-6). Yet, we are not left to tame it in our own strength. The Holy Spirit, who dwells within us, empowers us to bridle our words, to speak life rather than death, and to use our speech for edification rather than destruction. When we stumble, and we will, we have the promise of 1 John 1:9: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." This is not a license to sin but a lifeline to restoration.

Your acknowledgment of pride, anger, and self-interest is a courageous step toward repentance. The flesh wars against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh (Galatians 5:17), but we are called to walk in humility, considering others as more important than ourselves (Philippians 2:3). The anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God (James 1:20), and words spoken in haste or bitterness can wound deeply. Yet, even here, there is hope. Zechariah 1:13 assures us that the Lord answers with "kind, comforting, and encouraging words", a model for how we ought to speak to one another.

We rebuke the lies that whisper you are defined by your failures. You are not your sin; you are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). The trials you endure are not without purpose. They refine you, as gold is refined in the fire, producing perseverance, character, and hope (Romans 5:3-4). Even Jesus, the perfect Son of God, learned obedience through suffering (Hebrews 5:8), and He is the pioneer of our salvation (Hebrews 2:10). If He endured the cross for the joy set before Him, how much more should we endure our trials with eyes fixed on the eternal reward?

We pray now, lifting your burdens to the Father:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You, recognizing our frailty and Your strength. Lord, we confess the sins of our tongues, words spoken in anger, pride, or carelessness. Cleanse us, O God, and renew a right spirit within us. Help us to speak only what is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report (Philippians 4:8). Where we have wounded others, grant us the humility to seek forgiveness and the grace to forgive ourselves.

We thank You for the discipline that leads to holiness. Though it is painful, we trust in Your promise that it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness (Hebrews 12:11). Strengthen us in our weakness, that Your power may rest upon us (2 Corinthians 12:9). Guard our hearts from despair, reminding us that You work all things together for good for those who love You (Romans 8:28).

Lord, we pray for a revival of soft words and gentle spirits among Your people. Let us be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger (James 1:19). May our conversations reflect Your love, and may our lives be living testimonies of Your transforming grace. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, the only Name by which we are saved, the only Mediator between God and man (Acts 4:12, 1 Timothy 2:5). Amen."

We encourage you to continue in this posture of humility and dependence on the Lord. The journey of sanctification is lifelong, but it is not walked alone. Confess your struggles to trusted believers, pray for one another, and hold fast to the promises of Scripture. The same God who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6). Walk in the light, and the blood of Jesus will cleanse you from all sin (1 John 1:7). You are not condemned; you are loved, redeemed, and called to walk in newness of life.

We hear the depth of your longing in these words, the ache of wanting to be done with sin, the exhaustion of looking back at words spoken or typed in anger, in pride, in pain. It is a weary place to be, and yet your prayer itself shows something alive and real: a heart that genuinely wants to be conformed to Christ, not just pardoned and left as it is.

One thing that helps us when we get stuck in cycles of confession over the same struggles, especially the tongue, is remembering that confession is meant to heal us, not merely to satisfy a requirement. As you turn again to God with what is true about your failures, something deeper than relief can begin to change. Sins honestly brought into the light tend to lose their grip. They start to look and feel less attractive, because they no longer live in the secrecy and shame that give them power. The very act of confessing, to the Lord and to a trusted brother or sister in Christ, is part of how He breaks patterns that feel too strong for us. You are not merely repeating a cycle; you are participating in a process that slowly, genuinely reshapes a heart.

That is no small thing. Many people never reach the place of honesty you are standing in. The struggle itself, offered to God, is where He meets you and where quiet, lasting change takes root.

Let’s pray with you now:

Lord Jesus, You know the weight this one carries, the words said and typed that cannot be taken back, the anger mixed with pain, the pride that crept in unaware. Thank You that no confession is wasted before You. Meet here with mercy that heals and with grace that slowly makes these struggles seem smaller and smaller. Quiet the inner storm that drives hasty words, and let Your peace and humility grow in their place. Do what we cannot do, and let this heart know it is safe in Your hands, not because of perfect performance, but because of Your faithful love. Amen.

You speak of a tongue that has uttered things mixed with anger and pride, of a weakness that has caused you to stumble and fall short of the image of Christ. This is no small grief, but I charge you to remember that out of weakness, even sinful weakness, God delights to make His people strong. The man whose tongue was once bound and halting overcame his weakness by faith, a holy faith gave him a holy courage, and the tongue once bound became unloosed. That same faith is yours to exercise. Do not despair over the members that have been instruments of unrighteousness, for faith in Christ can make them weapons of righteousness. The very point where you feel weakest may yet become the channel of God’s strength.

Your confession here has been full and heart-wrung, yet hear a caution born of pastoral wisdom. To God alone belong the details of your iniquity, before Him make a plain and full confession, for He cannot be polluted by your sin. But before your fellow creature, add nothing to the general cry, “I am a sinner.” The excellence of penitence is lost, and its spell broken, if there be a question asked or a particularity paraded. Confession of sin to one another, as James instructs, is for healing and prayer, not for an unwise exposure that degrades the soul. Let your confession among the brethren be such as exalts the grace that pardons, not the filthiness that needs pardoning.

This sanctification for which you yearn, this ability to walk as Jesus walked and to have the tongue tamed, is not a work you can perform in your own strength. Sanctification is as much the work of God as the making of the heavens and the earth. Do not set about the work yourselves, as if you could perform it alone. Believe in Him for your sanctification, even as you have believed for your pardon. The God who hears your prayer is the God of Peace, reconciled to you through the blood of the everlasting covenant. Is God your enemy? Then you will never serve Him. But He is your peace, and it is from that deep calm of heart and quiet of conscience, rooted in the atoning work, that the power to do His will flows. View Him as the God of Peace, and you will be led to do His will.

You have spoken of a desire to be done with all future sin, to press some impossible button. Yet take heart in this: the very trial of your weakness transfers every drop of hope to Him who raises the dead. The tribulation that drives you to this confession is working a harvest of peaceful fruit. You have felt the discipline, and it is grievous, but afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness. Let these very struggles with the tongue teach you to lay hold upon Christ more firmly. The natural strength, which is our pride, becomes our weakness, but a natural weakness will be exalted and be made the vehicle and channel for spiritual strength. Go to Him, then, with your mouth full of this confession, and then with that same mouth make the good confession of His name before men. Let your weakness be your boast, that the power of Christ may rest upon you.

Your words reveal a soul truly wrestling with the weight of sin, and that is no small grace. To despise your transgressions, to long for a button that would erase all future failings, is the groan of the new creation within you, the birth pangs of holiness. Though such a device does not exist, what you possess is far greater: the indwelling Spirit who makes intercession with groanings that words cannot express, and the promise that the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all unrighteousness. Do not let the shame you feel become an occasion for despair; let it fuel your flight to the Mercy Seat.

You speak of the tongue, that unruly member set on fire by hell. When you confess that you have spoken in anger, typed words tainted with pride, forgotten to treat others as more important than yourself, you are simply agreeing with the divine diagnosis. But do not merely lament the fever; apply the remedy. The bridle on the tongue is not locked by sheer force of will but by the overflow of the heart. When you pray, "Take away all iniquity," you ask for the fountain to be cleansed, and that is a prayer God loves to answer. For He said, "Whoever is angry with his brother without a cause" is in danger. But note that the anger which springs from love, which barks at the wolf but does not devour the sheep, is a gift rightly used. The failure you mourn is when this guardian becomes a beast to its own flock, when self-interest wears the mask of righteousness. Pay attention, then: when you were reviled, did you bless? When a stranger's welfare was at stake, did your spirit burn with holy zeal? Where you should have shown the gentleness of Christ, you showed a savage temper; where you might have been roused like the most meek Moses, you were sluggish and dull. This confusion, using the sword where the hand is needed and the hand where the sword is required, mars the soul. Repentance realigns this, teaching us the proper time for holy anger and the far more frequent time for long-suffering.

You have spoken of things too wonderful for you, and in doing so have spoken from understanding that was unfruitful. The gift of speech, even prayer, can be a gift to self alone if not directed toward edification. When our spirit prays, let not our understanding be unfruitful to others. And how much worse when the fruit is poisonous, when we conceive and utter words of falsehood, oppression, or pride. Yet, remember this: the very confession you make is a word that edifies. By boasting in your weakness, you make way for Christ’s power to tabernacle upon you. For it is when I am weak, then am I strong, not because weakness is strength, but because it evacuates the soul of its own false resources and makes room for the Divine. The thorn is given, the messenger of Satan is allowed, precisely so that we might not exalt ourselves. Do you see? Your revelation of sin is the Father’s discipline, a solemn proof of sonship. He chastens those He loves. It seemed for a time not pleasant but grievous, yet afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who are exercised thereby.

You have taken words and turned to the Lord, and that is the sacrifice of the lips. Offer it continually. But let your words from this day forward be so evidently words of meekness, so full of blessing when you are cursed, that men may see your face shining as the face of an angel. Let no wrath be mixed in, for the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God. When passion enters, the harbor is storm-tossed, and no vessel of wisdom can put to sea. Whether you pray, speak, or hold your peace, do it all without wrath and disputing. For the precious separated from the vile makes one a mouthpiece of the Lord. Go, and as you confess your sins to one another for healing, remember that the power to raise the dead is not greater than the power to bless the enemy. You asked for a button to delete all future sin; He has given you His own life as the delete key for all past sin, and He has given you His own Spirit as the power to walk even as He walked. Do not despise the chastening, and faint not when you are rebuked of Him. Let the gentle dog of holy zeal keep watch over the sheepfold of your heart, barking at the intruder, but nestling close to the Shepherd. He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.
