Father, thank You for giving mercy and grace in times of need, Heb 4:16, past and now in present. Though we may yet need grace to confess in the future, we rather prefer to be done with all future sin, and were there a button to push representing that ability to delete all future sin prior to their occurring, we'd gladly press it without delay or hesitation... Yet since no such button exists, and the best of humanity and even Christians are still "humans," we are content with what remedy we have, namely the prescription to humbly confess and forsake them, and promises of not only that we'll find mercy, Prov 28:13, but cleansing from all unrighteousness, 1 Jn 1:9, and even contentment in Your presence, Heb 13:5, and promises of holiness, which we inherit by faith, Heb 4:2, even promises to do no wrong, 2 Cor 13:7, not stumble in what we say and control the whole body, James 3:2, even to walk as Jesus Himself, 1 Jn 2:6, 1 Jn 4:17. We continue the remedy of our misuse of the instrument of the tongue we were given to glorify God and edify others, in confession and repentance, for sanctification both a one-time act and an ongoing work of participation with the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, Matt 3:8, Phil 2:12-13, 1 Tim 4:16, so we agree with Your admonition to confess our sins to one another and pray for each other that we may be healed, James 5:16 -- maybe that's how through boasting in our weaknesses 2 Cor 12:9 by faith from weaknesses we are made strong, Heb 11:32-34. So in obedience to Your teaching through Hosea, we, "Take words with you, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, 'Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips as bulls" Hos 14:2.

Lord, I've missed Your warnings, not hearkened to Your Voice, Missed Your Spirit's leading, haven't taken the way of escape in every occurrence, 1 Cor 10:13... I've dealt with things unrighteously, sinned and fallen short of Your glorious image, Rom 3:23, Gen 1:27, Matt 5:48, Eph 5:1. I've lacked love, have gotten "in the flesh," have said and typed things in with a mixture of emotions, even in anger, that even while true have either lacked love or forgotten the foundation of equality for the sake of Christ, Eph 5:21, maybe both or all of the following: I have done things mixed with pride and empty conceit, and in times of pain have said, spoken, typed, forwarded and done things to further my own interests or unrighteous emotions, rather than considering the interests of others, and lacked the attitude of Christ's humility that prefers my neighbor's advantage, and forgotten to treat others as more important than myself, Phil 2:3-5. Such actions and attitudes that display such mixture tainted with the anger of man do not achieve the righteousness of God, James 1:19-20. Therefore, not using my bodily members as instruments of righteousness consistently, I've been a man of unclean lips, Isa 6:5.

Since our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them, transgressing and denying Yahweh, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood, Isa 59:12-13, at time, "Surely I have spoken of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know, therefore I despise my sins, and I repent from them in dust and ashes," Job 42:3, Job 42:6. Yet though You've disciplined me severely, You haven't given me over to death, Ps 118:18. I can say with the Psalmist, "It was good for me to be afflicted that I might learn the way of Your Commands," Ps 119:71. Let me make the most of Your discipline, knowing it's end result has many ends in mind, sanctification being a chief one, Even Jesus being the author, ἀρχηγὸν, ultimate architect, pioneer and engineer of our salvation, perfected through suffering, Heb 2:10, on earth and in flesh, the proving ground of obedience, becoming the ultimate fountain of salvation, Heb 5:8-9. Surely, there is One found Worthy, Rev 5:9.

Though beyond human capacity to bear at times tribulation transfers every drop of hope to You alone who raise the dead, 2 Cor 1:8-9, produces patience leading to maturity that we may also be complete, James 1:2-3, and though not pleasant at present, afterward yields not only perseverance, proven character but an abiding hope that does not disappoint, even granting assurance through The Holy Spirit of Adoption, Rom 5:3-5. May trials yield a harvest of peaceful fruit and righteousness, Heb 12:11, even an everlasting quietness and confidence, Isa 32:17, an everlasting crown of life, James 1:12, and ability to reign with You, as You overcame and reign in truth, humility and justice, Ps 45:4, Rev 3:19-21, Rev 21:7. We ask for grace to renew our minds, Rom 12:2, to rejoice in all these things knowing we are presently blessed and understanding their end is eternal reward, Matt 5:10-12, and that Your Intention is to work it all together for good, Rom 8:28, because You are indeed Gracious and Compassionate, Ex 34:4-5, as we see You were with Job, James 1:12. Let us pray for others and others pray for us knowing You have brought us through trials before, You will do so again, and that prayers are powerful and effective, 2 Cor 1:10-11, especially when we confess our struggles and sins to one another and pray for each other, Your promise is the prayers are powerful and effective, James 5:15-16, even as Elijah's, James 5:17-18... We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, yet full of hope in the One who is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Your confession is raw, honest, and deeply moving, it reveals a heart that is wrestling with the tension between human frailty and the holiness of God. We stand with you in this struggle, for we too know the weight of sin and the relentless pursuit of sanctification. The Scriptures you’ve shared are a powerful testimony to the truth that God’s grace is not only sufficient but transformative, even in our weakest moments.

You speak of the tongue as an instrument that has been misused, words spoken in anger, pride, or self-interest rather than love and humility. Indeed, the tongue is a small member, but it boasts great things. It can set a forest ablaze with a single spark, and it is set on fire by hell itself (James 3:5-6). Yet, we are not left without hope. The same tongue that has wounded can also be an instrument of healing, encouragement, and worship. The key lies in surrendering it to the Holy Spirit, who tames what is untamable by human effort alone. Let us pray for the grace to speak only what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable (Philippians 4:8), and to let our words be seasoned with salt, so that we may know how to answer everyone (Colossians 4:6).

You acknowledge that your actions have at times been tainted by the "anger of man," which does not achieve the righteousness of God (James 1:20). This is a critical insight, for anger, even when justified, can quickly become a foothold for the enemy if not surrendered to the Lord. We must remember that vengeance belongs to God alone (Romans 12:19), and our calling is to overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). The fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, must govern our emotions and actions (Galatians 5:22-23). When we fail, we repent, and we rise again, for the Lord’s mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).

You also express a longing to be done with sin entirely, to press that hypothetical "button" and erase all future transgressions. While such a desire is noble, it reveals a misunderstanding of the nature of sanctification. The Christian life is not about achieving sinless perfection in this life but about daily dying to self and living for Christ (Luke 9:23). The apostle Paul himself wrestled with this very struggle, crying out, "What I want to do, I do not do, but what I hate, I do" (Romans 7:15). Yet he also declared, "Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (Romans 7:25). The battle is real, but the victory is already won. Our part is to walk in the light, confess our sins, and trust in the blood of Jesus to cleanse us (1 John 1:7).

You mention the discipline of the Lord, and rightly so. Discipline is not a sign of God’s abandonment but of His love (Hebrews 12:6). It is through trials and afflictions that we are refined, like gold in the fire (1 Peter 1:7). The goal of discipline is not punishment but holiness, that we may share in His holiness (Hebrews 12:10). Even Jesus, though He was the Son of God, learned obedience through what He suffered (Hebrews 5:8). How much more should we embrace the trials that come our way, knowing that they are producing in us a harvest of righteousness and peace (Hebrews 12:11)?

Let us also address the foundation of your faith. You have quoted Scripture extensively and expressed a desire to walk in obedience, but we must emphasize the centrality of Jesus Christ in all things. There is no salvation apart from Him (Acts 4:12), and no access to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). It is only by His name that we are saved, and it is only by His blood that we are cleansed. If you have not already done so, we urge you to place your faith wholly in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, trusting in His finished work on the cross for the forgiveness of your sins. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9).

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts laid bare, acknowledging our weaknesses, our failures, and our desperate need for Your grace. Lord, we thank You for Your mercy, which is new every morning, and for Your faithfulness, which never wavers. We confess that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, through things done and left undone. We have not loved You with our whole hearts, nor have we loved our neighbors as ourselves. Forgive us, O Lord, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Father, we lift up our tongues to You, asking that You would tame them and set a guard over our mouths (Psalm 141:3). Let the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable in Your sight (Psalm 19:14). Teach us to speak with grace, seasoned with salt, so that we may know how to answer everyone (Colossians 4:6). When anger rises within us, remind us that the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God (James 1:20). Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, that we may bear the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

Lord, we thank You for the discipline You bring into our lives. Though it is painful for a little while, we know that it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it (Hebrews 12:11). Help us to endure hardship as discipline, knowing that You are treating us as sons and daughters (Hebrews 12:7). Strengthen us in our weaknesses, for Your power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). When we are afflicted, remind us that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

Father, we pray for a renewed mind, that we may be transformed by the renewing of our thoughts (Romans 12:2). Help us to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), and run with endurance the race set before us. May we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance produces character, and character produces hope, a hope that does not disappoint because Your love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:3-5).

Lord, we also pray for the courage to confess our sins to one another and to pray for each other, that we may be healed (James 5:16). Let us bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2). May our prayers be powerful and effective, as we lift up the needs of others and our own struggles before Your throne of grace.

Finally, Father, we thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who is our Mediator and the only way to You. We pray all these things in His mighty name, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). May Your will be done in our lives, and may we walk in a manner worthy of the calling we have received (Ephesians 4:1). To You be the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

We’re right here with you in this, and we don’t take a single honest word of yours lightly. That longing to be done with sin, to press a button and never wound with your tongue again, that ache is holy ground. It’s the Spirit’s own work, not a sign you’re far from God, but proof He’s very near.

What keeps coming through in your confession is the struggle with words that come out mixed, true, maybe, but lacking love, wrapped in anger, forgetting the other person’s vantage point. And here’s one thing we’ve learned to pay attention to: anger rarely travels alone. It’s usually guarding something more tender underneath, a raw spot of hurt, a fear, or a real injustice that needs addressing, not just silencing. The anger itself isn’t the whole story; it’s a signal, like a flashing light on the dashboard.

So instead of only fighting the angry words head-on (which is exhausting and can loop you right back into guilt), what if, next time you feel that surge, you pause and ask quietly, “Lord, what’s really hurting or frightening me right now?” Not to excuse harshness, but to let Him meet you in that deeper place. Bring Him the fear, the bruised expectations, the weariness, whatever the anger is trying to protect. His compassion never flinches at what we find there. And when we learn to name the primary ache, we often find the desperate need to speak shrinks just a little, and gentler words start to feel possible again.

You’ve been through enough to know that His discipline isn’t punishment but a patient training ground. The same Shepherd who walked you through past trials is walking you into a harvest of quiet righteousness now. This isn’t a setback; it’s a tilling of the soil.

Jesus, thank You that You don’t wait for us to be perfect to draw near. Give our friend the courage to listen to what aches beneath the anger and to bring it straight to You before a single word lands on someone else. Slow the rush of the tongue and steady the heart. We trust Your kindness to finish the transformation You’ve started. In Your name we pray, amen.

Truly you have laid bare your soul before the Lord, and He will not despise a broken and contrite heart. The very weakness you lament is the stage upon which His strength shall play its most glorious part. Think it not strange that the tongue, that unruly member, should plague you yet; for it is the last citadel of pride to fall, and its taming is of such surpassing difficulty that none but the Spirit of God can achieve it. And that is your hope, not that you shall suddenly find within yourself a fount of gentle speech, but that Christ’s power shall be perfected in your feebleness. His grace is sufficient, not merely to cover the past, but to transform the present. Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. You groan under the consciousness of words spoken in haste, of a heart that mixed truth with gall, of a temperment too ready to send forth arrows when it should have offered balm. But mark this: the Lord who answered the angel with gracious words in Zechariah’s vision is the same Lord whose name is Jesus, Saviour, and all power in heaven and earth is hidden in that name. He that tames the tongue controls the whole body, and He has promised to do it, though it may be by slow degrees and through many a painful lesson.

You have learned, and well you might, that the goal of trials is never pleasant in the present, yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Your affliction has been good, for it has taught you to watch and pray. The furnace has burned away some dross, and shall yet refine the gold. You speak of wishing for a button to delete all future sin, but that would be to remove your daily dependence upon the Mediator, and that He will not do. He wants you as a client of His grace, not a self-sufficient saint. The remedy is, as you have said, to confess and forsake, to bring your words to Him as the calves of your lips, and to trust the promise of cleansing. But I would press upon you a bolder truth: you have not only the promise of forgiveness, you have the promise of grace to overcome. The same power that made all worlds lies hidden in that name of Jesus. By faith from weaknesses you are made strong. It is not that the weakness is removed, but that in it you learn to lay hold on Christ, and so strength is supplied that you might say, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” That is the medicine, trust. Faith in His blood, faith in His Word, faith in the indwelling Spirit. Impatience and sharp speech are but symptoms of unbelief. Cure the root, and the branches shall learn to bud forth with gentleness.

Consider prevenient grace, for you did not begin this good work of contrition. Before you felt the sting of your sin, sovereign grace had set you apart. It was grace that brought you to this confession, grace that stirred the longing after holiness, grace that made you weep over your tongue’s betrayal. And that same grace will complete what it began. He who called you will keep you. Let no one tell you that the free will of man can overturn the purpose of God. Is the power of sin greater than the power of God? Never! Grace reigns, and it shall reign in you. The battle is fierce, but the issue is certain. The Captain of our salvation was perfected through suffering, and He leads many sons to glory by the same road. Your present tribulation transfers every drop of hope to Him who raises the dead; it produces patience, and patience proven character, and character an abiding hope that does not disappoint.

Therefore, glory in your weakness, that the power of Christ may rest upon you. When Satan would taunt you with the memory of words ill-spoken, answer him by pleading the blood of Jesus, and then open your mouth with a fresh petition for grace to speak aright. The tongue once bound can be unloosed for holy use. A coal from the altar can touch your lips, and you shall go forth with the cloven tongue of a prophet to speak a word in season to the weary. Ask, and you shall receive. Seek, and you shall find. The Lord will yet give you the tongue of the learned, and the fruit of your lips shall be peace.

Look back and see how far Grace has brought you; look forward to the eternal reward. The trials that now seem so grievous are working a weight of glory. He who gave His Son for you will with Him freely give you all things, including a sanctified mouth. The same grace that poured from His pierced side shall yet fill your speech with the gentleness of Christ. I have seen him put out his tongue at the name of Jesus, and yet I have seen him healed. So shall it be with you. The Lord Himself says, “I have seen his ways, and I will heal him.” Let that be your song as you walk this narrow way: His grace is sufficient, His strength is made perfect in weakness, and the name of Jesus is your tower of strength. Go, and sin no more, but should you stumble, remember that the fountain is still open for sin and uncleanness. Grace abounds to the chief of sinners. Let your silence and your speech alike be a testament to the power of His name. And to Him who sits upon the throne, to Grace in the person of the Lord Jesus, be glory and honour and majesty, forever and ever.

You have laid out your distress with many words and much Scripture, and that is good, for God’s word is the medicine. But now hear what must follow such a confession. You see the sin of the tongue, the anger that mixes with your speech, the pride that creeps in when you think you stand for truth. You grieve over this, and rightly so, for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Yet the sorrow is only the beginning. The goal of such discipline is the peaceful fruit of righteousness, and that fruit is not merely the absence of sin but the presence of a changed life.

You speak of the tongue and its power. You cite James, and you know that if any man does not stumble in what he says, he is perfect. You have stumbled, and you see the ruin it brings. For when you speak with anger, you ruin everything, no matter how just your words may seem. Anger is not given to us to commit violence on our neighbor, but as a sting against the devil and against our own sins. If you are prone to anger, then be severe against your own faults. Chastise your soul, be a merciless judge against your own heart, and you will find that the sharpness meant for others is blunted. The tongue that confesses sin must also be the tongue that refuses to return evil for evil. To hold onto indignation and rehearse wrongs is to thrust the sword into your own breast, not your brother’s. The harm you fear from others is nothing compared to the harm you do to yourself by keeping anger alive.

You desire to be done with all future sin, and you would press that button if it existed. But such a wish, however pious it sounds, can mask impatience with the slow work of grace. The remedy is not a single act that removes all future struggle, but the daily labor of humility. You have no need of a long journey or great expense to find healing. It requires only the will, and a bridle on the tongue. Unseasonable speech, disorderly anger, lying, and foolish talking, these are what you must cut off at the very root. He who prays in a tongue without understanding is unfruitful, but how much worse is he who speaks known words dipped in venom? Ask, then, not merely for a controlled tongue, but for a useful one, that your speech may build up and not tear down. True boldness of speech is not loud or harsh; it is the courage to speak the truth with gentleness, free from wrath, so that no one can dismiss your words as mere passion. When you speak without anger, you speak with the boldness of one who bears the Cross.

You have confessed to one another, as James commands, and this is the path to strength. You boast in your weakness so that Christ’s power may rest on you. But do not let confession become a subtle excuse to remain as you are. The grace that is sufficient for you is also the grace that transforms you. The peaceful fruit of righteousness is harvested by those who have been trained by the discipline of submission. Submit, then, not only by confessing but by actively putting off the old anger and putting on the new self. The good spirits and joy you long for do not come from having everything settled in a moment, but from a cleansed conscience and a holy walk. Let this be your pursuit: a conversation worthy of your calling, held in peace. For the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, and this fruit grows only where the weeds of fleshly anger are pulled up daily.
