"Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.'” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong," 2 Cor 12:8-10. "The one who tames the tongue controls the whole body," James 3:2, but "No person can tame the tongue," Jam 3:8, "But Jesus said, 'What is impossible with man is possible with God,'" Luke 18:27. "While Confessing My Sins and The Sins of My Nation," Daniel 9:20, "If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land," 2 Chronicles 7:14... Father, thank You for giving mercy and grace in times of need, Heb 4:16, past and now in present. Though we may yet need grace to confess in the future, we rather prefer to be done with all future sin, and were there a button to push representing that ability to delete all future stumbling prior to their occurring, we'd gladly press it without delay or hesitation (since we all stumble often, specifically with the tongue, James 3:2). Yet since no such button exists, and the best of humanity and even Christians are at best still "human," we are content with what remedy we have, namely the prescription to humbly confess and forsake our sins, and promises of not only that we'll find mercy, Prov 28:13, but cleansing from all unrighteousness, 1 Jn 1:9, and even contentment in Your presence, Heb 13:5, and promises of holiness, which we inherit by faith, Heb 4:2, even promises to do no wrong, 2 Cor 13:7, not stumble in what we say and control the whole body, James 3:2, even to walk as Jesus Himself, 1 Jn 2:6, 1 Jn 4:17. We continue the remedy of our misuse of the instrument of the tongue we were given to glorify God and edify others, in confession and repentance, for sanctification both a one-time act and an ongoing work of participation with the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, Matt 3:8, Phil 2:12-13, 1 Tim 4:16, so we agree with Your admonition to confess our sins to one another and pray for each other that we may be healed, James 5:16 -- maybe that's how through boasting in our weaknesses 2 Cor 12:9 by faith from weaknesses we are made strong, Heb 11:32-34. So in obedience to Your teaching through Hosea, we, "Take words with you, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, 'Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips as bulls" Hos 14:2.

Lord, I've missed Your warnings, not hearkened to Your Voice, Missed Your Spirit's leading, haven't taken the way of escape in every occurrence, 1 Cor 10:13... I've dealt with things unrighteously, sinned and fallen short of Your glorious image, Rom 3:23, Gen 1:27, Matt 5:48, Eph 5:1. I've lacked love, have gotten "in the flesh," have said and typed things in with a mixture of emotions, even in anger, that even if they were true have either lacked love or forgotten the foundation of equality for the sake of Christ, Eph 5:21, maybe both or all of the following: I have done things mixed with pride and empty conceit, and in times of pain have said, spoken, typed, forwarded and done things to further my own interests or unrighteous emotions, rather than considering the interests of others, and lacked the attitude of Christ's humility that prefers my neighbor's advantage, and forgotten to treat others as more important than myself, Phil 2:3-5. Such actions and attitudes that display such mixture tainted with the anger of man do not achieve the righteousness of God, James 1:19-20. Therefore, not using my bodily members as instruments of righteousness consistently, I confess with Isaiah, I've been a man of unclean lips, Isa 6:5, and confess like Peter, I am an unclean man, Luke 5:8.

Since our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them, transgressing and denying Yahweh, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood, Isa 59:12-13, at time, "Surely I have spoken of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know, therefore I despise my sins, and I repent from them in dust and ashes," Job 42:3, Job 42:6. Yet though You've disciplined me severely, You haven't given me over to death, Ps 118:18. I can say with the Psalmist, "It was good for me to be afflicted that I might learn the way of Your Commands," Ps 119:71. Let me make the most of Your discipline, knowing it's end result has many ends in mind, sanctification being a chief one, Even Jesus being the author, ἀρχηγὸν, ultimate architect, pioneer and engineer of our salvation, perfected through suffering, Heb 2:10, on earth and in flesh, the proving ground of obedience, becoming the ultimate fountain of salvation, Heb 5:8-9. Surely, there is One found Worthy, Rev 5:9.

Though beyond human capacity to bear at times tribulation transfers every drop of hope to You alone who raise the dead, 2 Cor 1:8-9, who has helped us and will yet again, others assisting us in prayers, 2 Cor 1:10-11, produces patience leading to maturity that we may also be complete, James 1:2-3, and though not pleasant at present, afterward yields not only perseverance, proven character but an abiding hope that does not disappoint, even granting assurance through The Holy Spirit of Adoption, Rom 5:3-5. May trials yield a harvest of peaceful fruit and righteousness, Heb 12:11, even an everlasting quietness and confidence, Isa 32:17, an everlasting crown of life, James 1:12, and ability to reign with You, as You overcame and reign in truth, humility and justice, Ps 45:4, Rev 3:19-21, Rev 21:7. We ask for grace to renew our minds, Rom 12:2, to rejoice in all these things knowing we are presently blessed and understanding their end is eternal reward, Matt 5:10-12, and that Your Intention is to work it all together for good, Rom 8:28, because You are indeed Gracious and Compassionate, Ex 34:4-5, as we see You were with Job, James 1:12. Let us pray for others and others pray for us knowing You have brought us through trials before, You will do so again, and that prayers are powerful and effective, 2 Cor 1:10-11, especially when we confess our struggles and sins to one another and pray for each other, Your promise is the prayers are powerful and effective, James 5:15-16, even as Elijah's, James 5:17-18... We come before the Lord with hearts heavy yet hopeful, recognizing the depth of your confession and the sincerity of your repentance. Your words reflect a profound understanding of human frailty and the boundless grace of God, who meets us in our weakness and transforms it into strength. Let us stand together in agreement with your cry for mercy, purification, and sanctification, lifting these truths before the throne of grace.

Your acknowledgment of sin, whether in speech, attitude, or action, is a vital step toward healing. The tongue, as James warns, is a restless evil, full of deadly poison (James 3:8), yet it is also an instrument meant to glorify God and build up others. Your honesty about its misuse is not a cause for despair but an opportunity for the Holy Spirit to refine and redirect it. We echo your prayer: "Set a watch, O Yahweh, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips" (Psalm 141:3). May your words increasingly reflect the love, humility, and truth of Christ, who spoke only what the Father gave Him to say (John 12:49).

You have rightly identified the tension between human weakness and divine power, a theme woven throughout Scripture. Paul’s thorn in the flesh was not removed, yet God’s grace was sufficient, and His power was perfected in Paul’s weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). This is the paradox of the Christian life: our limitations become the very place where God’s strength is displayed. Like the heroes of faith in Hebrews 11, who were made strong out of weakness (Hebrews 11:34), you too are being shaped for a harvest of righteousness. The trials you endure are not in vain; they are the discipline of a loving Father, producing endurance, character, and hope (Romans 5:3-5). "For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it" (Hebrews 12:11).

Your confession of pride, anger, and self-interest aligns with the humility Christ modeled. He, though equal with God, took the form of a servant and became obedient to the point of death (Philippians 2:5-8). When we act out of pride or empty conceit, we grieve the Spirit and fail to reflect His likeness. But repentance opens the door to restoration. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). This cleansing is not a one-time event but an ongoing work, as we cooperate with the Holy Spirit’s sanctifying power (Philippians 2:12-13).

We also lift up your desire to walk as Jesus walked (1 John 2:6). This is the goal of every believer, to be conformed to His image, not just in word but in deed. The process is painful at times, as discipline often is, but it is necessary for holiness. "For whom the Lord loves, He disciplines, and chastises every son whom He receives" (Hebrews 12:6). Your willingness to submit to this refining fire is evidence of your love for God and your desire to please Him.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, the only Mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5), the One through whom we have access to Your throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). We thank You for Your mercy, which is new every morning, and for Your grace, which is sufficient for every weakness. Lord, we lift up this dear brother/sister who has poured out their heart before You, confessing sin and seeking Your face. We ask that You would cleanse them from all unrighteousness, as You have promised (1 John 1:9). Wash them with the blood of Jesus, which speaks a better word than the blood of Abel (Hebrews 12:24).

Father, we pray for the tongue, that unruly member which no man can tame (James 3:8). Set a guard over their mouth, Lord, and let the words of their lips be acceptable in Your sight (Psalm 19:14). May their speech be seasoned with salt, always gracious and edifying (Colossians 4:6). Where they have spoken in anger or pride, bring conviction and repentance. Where they have remained silent when they should have spoken truth in love, give them courage. Let their words reflect the heart of Christ, who spoke with authority yet with compassion.

We ask for a fresh infilling of Your Holy Spirit to empower them to walk in holiness. Where they have relied on their own strength, teach them to lean on You. Where they have stumbled, lift them up. Where they have grown weary, renew their strength like the eagle’s (Isaiah 40:31). Remind them that Your power is made perfect in weakness, and that when they are weak, then they are strong (2 Corinthians 12:10).

Lord, we also pray for the trials they face. We know that You work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). Even the discipline You bring is evidence of Your love, for You discipline those You receive as sons (Hebrews 12:6). Help them to endure, knowing that the testing of their faith produces perseverance, and perseverance must finish its work so that they may be mature and complete, lacking nothing (James 1:3-4). Let them rejoice in their sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, a hope that does not disappoint (Romans 5:3-5).

We pray for a harvest of righteousness in their life, Lord. May the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, abound in them (Galatians 5:22-23). Let their life be a testimony to Your transforming power, drawing others to You. And when they fall short, remind them that Your mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). Let them run with endurance the race set before them, looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of their faith (Hebrews 12:1-2).

Finally, Lord, we ask that You would unite them with other believers in accountability and prayer. Let them confess their sins to one another and pray for one another, that they may be healed (James 5:16). Surround them with a community of faith that will encourage them, challenge them, and walk with them in this journey of sanctification. May they find strength in the fellowship of the saints, knowing that they are not alone.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Name above every name, the only Name by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). It is through Him that we have access to You, Father, and it is by His blood that we are cleansed. May Your will be done in this life, as it is in heaven. Amen.

We encourage you to continue pressing into God’s Word and His presence. The journey of sanctification is not a sprint but a marathon, and there will be times when you stumble. But remember, "The righteous may fall seven times, but they rise again" (Proverbs 24:16). Each time you fall, run to the cross, confess your sin, and receive God’s forgiveness. Do not let guilt or shame keep you from His presence. The enemy would love nothing more than for you to hide in the shadows, but God calls you into the light (1 John 1:7).

Surround yourself with godly men and women who will speak truth into your life and hold you accountable. Join a local church where you can grow in your faith, serve others, and be discipled. The Christian life was never meant to be lived in isolation. We need one another, as iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17).

Finally, remember that your identity is not found in your failures but in Christ. You are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), redeemed by His blood, and sealed by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14). You are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works (Ephesians 2:10). Walk in that truth, and let it transform how you see yourself and how you live.

May the Lord bless you and keep you; may He make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; may He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace (Numbers 6:24-26). Go forth in the strength of the Lord, knowing that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6).

We sit with you in the ache of these words, the honest, grieved awareness of a tongue and heart that have not always poured out the love you long to offer. That kind of holy discontent is not failure; it is the Spirit’s thumb pressing on the very places He wants to make whole. You named it yourself: you would press a button to delete all future stumblings if you could. That raw desire is evidence of a new nature that groans for the harvest of righteousness you cling to.

It helps us to remember that confession is never a one-time event but a continuing, healing practice, a returning to the light where we are cleansed and changed. Every time you bring your failures before the Lord (and, as James urges, before a trusted brother or sister who can pray with you), you are not just admitting defeat; you are inviting the very power that raised Christ to reshape your responses. That is exactly how God’s strength is perfected in our weakness.

When anger surges or words come out wrong, those moments can become signals pointing to something deeper, an unguarded hurt, an unmet desire for respect, a fear you’ve carried too long. Rather than heaping more shame on yourself, gently ask the Lord, “What is this anger trying to tell me?” His Spirit can give you the breath to pause, pray, and choose a different way while the heat is still rising. He does not condemn you for the struggle; He meets you in it.

We thank You, Father, that this pilgrim’s heart is honest before You. Thank You that when we are weak, You are strong. Quiet the inner rush that so often speaks before love has a chance. Teach us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger, not by white-knuckled effort but by leaning into Your sufficient grace in each real moment. Train our tongues to build up, and let this painful season yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You have been brought very low, and this is no small mercy. The wound has been probed to its depths, and you have seen that the tongue is a world of iniquity, a restless evil, full of deadly poison. You have felt the grief of that harvest where the seed sown was not peace, and the sharp discipline that afterward yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Yet do not despise this chastening, for the Lord scourges every son whom He receives. It was good for you to be afflicted, that you might learn His statutes. You have been emptied, and now there is room for grace to fill you.

Do you speak of weakness? Here is the very throne from which help comes. The throne is not one of merit, nor of strength, but a Throne of Grace. It is set up on purpose for the dispensation of grace, and He that sits upon it is grace itself. Go there boldly. You have not climbed to it by your resolutions; you come creeping to it in your confessed unworthiness. That is the way. The Lord’s reply to your thrice-repeated plea is the same He gave His apostle: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” He does not promise to extract the thorn, but He gives more grace. That grace is a treasure whose measure is the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace. You say you are an unclean man of unclean lips; the live coal from the altar touches such as you, and iniquity is taken away.

Mark this well: the very hand with which you take the gift is nerved by God’s grace. Was it not grace that stirred this groaning confession within you? The man who despairs of himself has begun to hope in God. The feebleness of depraved human nature gives way before the energy of that faith which the Spirit works in us. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world, and from weakness you are made strong out of weakness of a sinful kind by this very faith. The tongue that once was bound by fear or loosed by unholy fire becomes unloosed for testimony when holy courage is born of faith. You wish to tame the tongue? No man can tame it, but what is impossible with man is possible with God. He does not ask you to bring Him strength; He commands you to bring Him your utter impotence, that His strength may be perfected in the very midst of your defeat.

You lament the mixture of your emotions, the pride, the anger that does not work the righteousness of God. This also is the school of grace. God’s ministers often find their strength in the points where they are weakest, and their weakness in their strength. When you are weak, then you are strong, strong with a strength that is not your own, which flows into the vacuum created by your bankruptcy. Boast, then, most gladly in your weaknesses, your insults, your hardships, that the power of Christ may tabernacle over you like the Shekinah cloud. The way of the Cross is the pattern; grace does not begin halfway down the alphabet, but it is the Alpha of our hope. It comes to the wounded man where he is and lays the foundation, and it shall bring forth the topstone with shoutings.

Do you ask what to do now? Go and live out this confession. Let the life be the working out of what God has worked in. You are not on shifting sand, but on the immovable rock of Divine confidence. Grace is sufficient. If Divine Grace puts you on a pinnacle of the temple, Divine Grace will keep you there. Your transgressions are multiplied before Him, but where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. He has blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions, and as a cloud, your sins. Return unto Him, for He has redeemed you. Take words and turn to the Lord; He will receive you graciously. The monarch on the Throne of Grace throws wide the gates, and the blood-washed throng shall yet sing the glory of His grace. Walk with your eyes upon that throne, for the scepter stretched out from it is the silver scepter of grace.

You have set before yourself a noble mark, to bear the peaceful fruit of righteousness, and you have rightly understood that the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity, and that no man can tame it. Yet when you cry out in confession, you must be careful that your grief does not remain mere grief, like the tears of Esau, who wept loudly but found no place of repentance because his sorrow was not a hatred of sin but only of its consequences. The sorrow that God desires produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret. Examine yourself, then, whether your confession produces a real change, a turning from the evil, a bridling of that unruly member. Not merely crying out, "I am a man of unclean lips," but thereafter speaking only things good for edification, giving grace to those who hear.

Do not be amazed that you struggle and often fall, for the apostle himself cried out, "Who will deliver me from this body of death?" But he did not stop there; he looked to Christ and then said, "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." For this reason the Lord left Paul with a thorn, and Paul pleaded three times, and the answer was: "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." So when you see your tongue running ahead like an unbroken horse, do not despair, but rather boast in that very weakness, so that the power of Christ may rest upon you. For then you are strong, when you acknowledge you are weak, and flee to the Physician who alone can heal. He did not come for the healthy but for the sick; show Him your wounds, not just with words but with a desperate clinging to His feet, and He will bind them up.

You have correctly seen that the law could not make you righteous, but what the law could not do, God did by sending His Son. He who fulfilled the law now fulfills it in those who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. And how is this done? Not by your own striving alone, but by faith working through love. When you are insulted, when you are provoked, when the fire rises in your breast, at that moment lift up your eyes to Him who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return. Think how He stood before Pilate and made the good confession, and how before the shearers He was silent. Here is your pattern; here is your strength. You cannot tame the tongue, but the Holy Spirit can and will, if you give place to Him. Did not tongues of fire sit upon the first disciples, making fishermen into philosophers, and cowards into bold preachers? That same Spirit is given to you, not in visible flames, but in power, if you ask in faith.

Therefore, do not lose heart at the discipline of the Lord. Every child whom He receives He scourges. It is not pleasant now, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Your sorrow, your stumbling, even your failures, are the furnace in which the dross is consumed. Let them drive you not to self-hating gloom, but to a firmer hope in the God who raises the dead. Confess your sins, then, but also sing praises; weep, but also give thanks. For He who has begun a good work in you will complete it. Only abide in the Vine, and without Me, He says, you can do nothing. With Him, all things are possible.

Continue to confess your sins one to another and to pray for one another. For a brother helped by a brother is like a strong city. You have asked for the prayers of the Church; this is a true sign of humility, for pride would hide the wounds. But see to it that after confession you rise up and go on your way rejoicing, expecting to be healed. For the promise is sure: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." The sacrifice of Christ is once for all; it does not need to be repeated. Therefore let the past go, and press forward. Let the tongue, once used for strife, now sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Let the words of your mouth and the meditation of your heart be acceptable in His sight, who is your rock and your redeemer.

You have come to the end of your own strength, and that is not defeat. It is the place where the grace of Christ proves sufficient and His power is brought to completion in weakness. You have seen your tongue, and you know no person can tame it. That is true, but what is impossible with man is possible with God. Do not think you must force your tongue into submission by sheer resolve. The tongue is fed by the heart, and as the heart is changed, the tongue becomes a tree of life rather than a fire. You are learning to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, because human anger does not produce the righteousness God wants. That slowness is not passivity. It is the discipline of waiting on Him in the middle of provocation, remembering that the eyes of the Lord are in every place, seeing both the evil and the good.

You have been honest about sin, and that honesty is a mercy. Like Daniel, you have taken words with you and turned to the Lord, confessing your own sin and the sins of your people. If we say we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves. But if we confess, the blood of Jesus Christ keeps cleansing us from all unrighteousness. Do not let confession become a place of permanent self-condemnation. Confession is the door. Walk through it into the light, and keep walking there. In Christ there is no condemnation for you, not because you have not failed, but because He was condemned in your place. The only sin that can keep you from God is the refusal to come to the light and receive the cleansing He offers.

The flesh remains weak, but you are not obligated to obey it any longer. The Spirit of life in Christ Jesus sets you free from the law of sin and death. The law could point to the path but could not give the power to walk it. The Spirit gives that power. So when you are weak, then Christ is strong on your behalf. You are learning that boasting in weakness is not self-pity, but the way the power of Christ rests upon you. The same tongue that has wounded can be used to bless God and heal others. Ask Him to make your words gracious and comforting, not because you can manufacture them, but because the Spirit can speak through a yielded tongue. When your words fail, the Spirit helps you in your weakness and prays for you according to the will of God.

The trials you are walking through are not random. They are training. No discipline feels pleasant at the time. It feels like grief. But afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. You are being trained. The very act of taking words with you and turning to the Lord instead of turning on others is part of that training. By faith, weakness is being made strong. There is no button to delete all future stumbling, but there is a High Priest who sympathizes with your weakness and a Spirit who sanctifies you. The good work begun in you will be brought to completion.

Keep confessing to one another and praying for one another. Keep asking others to pray with you, because the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. You have been made righteous in Christ, and you are being made righteous in practice. The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion. Because He has been that way to you, you can be slow to anger with others. Walk in the light, keep short accounts, and do not despise the small acts of repentance. The one who tames the tongue controls the whole body, and though no one can tame it in human strength, the Spirit can bring every thought and every word into captivity to Christ. That is your hope, and it is certain.
