"Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.'” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong," 2 Cor 12:8-10. "The one who tames the tongue controls the whole body," James 3:2, but "No person can tame the tongue," Jam 3:8, "But Jesus said, 'What is impossible with man is possible with God,'" Luke 18:27. "While Confessing My Sins and The Sins of My Nation," Daniel 9:20, "If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land," 2 Chronicles 7:14... Father, thank You for giving mercy and grace in times of need, Heb 4:16, past and now in present. Though we may yet need grace to confess in the future, we rather prefer to be done with all future sin, and were there a button to push representing that ability to delete all future stumbling prior to their occurring, we'd gladly press it without delay or hesitation (since we all stumble often, specifically with the tongue, James 3:2). Yet since no such button exists, and the best of humanity and even Christians are at best still "human," we are content with what remedy we have, namely the prescription to humbly confess and forsake our sins, and promises of not only that we'll find mercy, Prov 28:13, but cleansing from all unrighteousness, 1 Jn 1:9, and even contentment in Your presence, Heb 13:5, and promises of holiness, which we inherit by faith, Heb 4:2, even promises to do no wrong, 2 Cor 13:7, not stumble in what we say and control the whole body, James 3:2, even to walk as Jesus Himself, 1 Jn 2:6, 1 Jn 4:17. We continue the remedy of our misuse of the instrument of the tongue we were given to glorify God and edify others, in confession and repentance, for sanctification both a one-time act and an ongoing work of participation with the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, Matt 3:8, Phil 2:12-13, 1 Tim 4:16, so we agree with Your admonition to confess our sins to one another and pray for each other that we may be healed, James 5:16 -- maybe that's how through boasting in our weaknesses 2 Cor 12:9 by faith from weaknesses we are made strong, Heb 11:32-34. So in obedience to Your teaching through Hosea, we, "Take words with you, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, 'Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips as bulls" Hos 14:2.

Lord, I've missed Your warnings, not hearkened to Your Voice, Missed Your Spirit's leading, haven't taken the way of escape in every occurrence, 1 Cor 10:13... I've dealt with things unrighteously, sinned and fallen short of Your glorious image, Rom 3:23, Gen 1:27, Matt 5:48, Eph 5:1. I've lacked love, have gotten "in the flesh," have said and typed things in with a mixture of emotions, even in anger, that even if they were true have either lacked love or forgotten the foundation of equality for the sake of Christ, Eph 5:21, maybe both or all of the following: I have done things mixed with pride and empty conceit, and in times of pain have said, spoken, typed, forwarded and done things to further my own interests or unrighteous emotions, rather than considering the interests of others, and lacked the attitude of Christ's humility that prefers my neighbor's advantage, and forgotten to treat others as more important than myself, Phil 2:3-5. Such actions and attitudes that display such mixture tainted with the anger of man do not achieve the righteousness of God, James 1:19-20. Therefore, not using my bodily members as instruments of righteousness consistently, I confess with Isaiah, I've been a man of unclean lips, Isa 6:5, and confess like Peter, I am an unclean man, Luke 5:8.

Since our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them, transgressing and denying Yahweh, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood, Isa 59:12-13, at time, "Surely I have spoken of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know, therefore I despise my sins, and I repent from them in dust and ashes," Job 42:3, Job 42:6. Yet though You've disciplined me severely, You haven't given me over to death, Ps 118:18. I can say with the Psalmist, "It was good for me to be afflicted that I might learn the way of Your Commands," Ps 119:71. Let me make the most of Your discipline, knowing it's end result has many ends in mind, sanctification being a chief one, Even Jesus being the author, ἀρχηγὸν, ultimate architect, pioneer and engineer of our salvation, perfected through suffering, Heb 2:10, on earth and in flesh, the proving ground of obedience, becoming the ultimate fountain of salvation, Heb 5:8-9. Surely, there is One found Worthy, Rev 5:9.

Though beyond human capacity to bear at times tribulation transfers every drop of hope to You alone who raise the dead, 2 Cor 1:8-9, produces patience leading to maturity that we may also be complete, James 1:2-3, and though not pleasant at present, afterward yields not only perseverance, proven character but an abiding hope that does not disappoint, even granting assurance through The Holy Spirit of Adoption, Rom 5:3-5. May trials yield a harvest of peaceful fruit and righteousness, Heb 12:11, even an everlasting quietness and confidence, Isa 32:17, an everlasting crown of life, James 1:12, and ability to reign with You, as You overcame and reign in truth, humility and justice, Ps 45:4, Rev 3:19-21, Rev 21:7. We ask for grace to renew our minds, Rom 12:2, to rejoice in all these things knowing we are presently blessed and understanding their end is eternal reward, Matt 5:10-12, and that Your Intention is to work it all together for good, Rom 8:28, because You are indeed Gracious and Compassionate, Ex 34:4-5, as we see You were with Job, James 1:12. Let us pray for others and others pray for us knowing You have brought us through trials before, You will do so again, and that prayers are powerful and effective, 2 Cor 1:10-11, especially when we confess our struggles and sins to one another and pray for each other, Your promise is the prayers are powerful and effective, James 5:15-16, even as Elijah's, James 5:17-18... We come before the throne of grace with hearts heavy yet hopeful, recognizing the profound struggle you’ve laid before us, a battle with the tongue, the weight of sin, and the longing for righteousness. Your honesty in confessing weakness, pride, and unrighteous anger is a testament to the Holy Spirit’s work in you, for only He convicts and leads us to repentance. The scriptures you’ve cited reveal a deep hunger for holiness, and we stand with you in this fight, knowing that our strength is not in ourselves but in Christ, who makes us strong in our weakness.

The tongue is indeed a restless evil, full of deadly poison (James 3:8), and no human can tame it. But we serve a God who speaks life, who calms storms with a word, and who can transform even the most unruly heart. Your desire to control your words and actions is not in vain, it is the very work of sanctification, where the Holy Spirit refines us through fire so that we may reflect Christ more clearly. The apostle Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 are not just encouragement but a promise: “‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” This is the paradox of the Christian life, our weakness is the very place where His strength shines brightest.

You’ve acknowledged the sin of anger, pride, and self-interest, and we must address this plainly: the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God (James 1:20). When we speak or act from a place of unchecked emotion, we risk grieving the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:29-30) and wounding those made in God’s image. But confession is the first step toward healing. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). This is not a one-time act but a daily surrender, a moment-by-moment reliance on Christ to bridle our tongues and soften our hearts.

We also see your longing to be free from future sin, and we share that desire. Yet we know that as long as we live in this fallen world, we will battle the flesh. But take heart, No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13). The "way out" is not a magic button but a Person, Jesus Christ, who intercedes for us (Hebrews 7:25) and empowers us through His Spirit to walk in victory.

Your prayer reflects a deep understanding of the gospel: that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through His shed blood that we have access to the Father. If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). This is the foundation upon which all repentance, sanctification, and hope are built.

Now, let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You as a people in need of Your mercy and grace. You see the struggles of this dear brother/sister, the battles with the tongue, the weight of past sins, and the longing for holiness. We thank You that You do not leave us in our weakness but meet us there with Your strength. Lord, we ask that You would set a guard over this one’s mouth and keep watch over the door of their lips (Psalm 141:3). Where words have been spoken in anger or pride, bring healing and restoration. Where the tongue has been used as a weapon, transform it into an instrument of Your peace.

Father, we confess that we have all fallen short of Your glory (Romans 3:23), but we thank You that in Christ, we are forgiven and made new. We ask that You would continue the work of sanctification in this life, that they would be conformed more and more to the image of Your Son. Help them to see trials not as punishments but as opportunities to grow in patience, character, and hope (Romans 5:3-4). When the tongue rages, remind them of Your patience with us. When pride rises, humble them with the truth of Your sovereignty. When anger flares, fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

We pray for a harvest of righteousness in their life, Lord. May the discipline they have endured produce a crop of peace and holiness (Hebrews 12:11). May they find joy not in their own strength but in Your sufficiency. And may they, like Paul, learn to boast in their weaknesses so that Your power may rest upon them. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the Name above all names, the only Name by which we are saved.

Finally, we encourage you to seek accountability with other believers. Confess your struggles to trusted brothers or sisters in Christ and allow them to pray with you and for you (James 5:16). The Christian life is not meant to be walked alone, and there is power in corporate prayer and fellowship. As you abide in Christ and His Word, you will bear much fruit (John 15:5), and your life will be a testimony to His transforming grace.

What has helped us in similar struggles is learning to listen to anger as a signal rather than just fighting to suppress it. Often beneath the flash of frustration or the impulse to fire off a sharp reply is something more vulnerable, an old hurt, a fear of being misunderstood, a sense of injustice, or simply exhaustion. When we pause long enough to name that tenderer layer, we can bring it to God not just as sin to confess but as a genuine need He cares about. That shift has a way of softening the urgency to speak before thinking.

A practical step you might try in the coming days: the next time you feel that inner heat rising, whether in a conversation or when your fingers hover over a keyboard, place your hand on your chest and whisper, “Jesus, what’s underneath this?” Give yourself sixty seconds before you respond. Often, that small pause lets the Spirit untangle the knot just enough to choose a different tone, or even to stay silent. Over time, that practice can reshape well-worn patterns.

We also want to gently encourage you not to carry this alone. James 5:16 isn’t just a command; it’s an invitation into healing. Is there a trusted, mature friend or a pastor you could share this journey with, someone who will pray with you, not lecture you, and remind you of grace when you stumble? The shame lifts a little when we let a safe brother or sister into the battle.

It is meet and right that a soul should be brought so low as to cry out with the confession of its own nothingness. For when a man has lost all righteousness of his own, then is he in the place where the grace of God can meet him. The thirsty are welcome; but those who think they are good are welcome neither to Sinai nor to Calvary. You have not come with a plea of self-righteousness, but with the groanings of a contrite heart. That is hopeful.

Jesus signifies, Savior, and He that was to save us had need of power. Rejoice, then, that your Jesus has all power in heaven and in earth. The lame man at the gate Beautiful received strength through that name, and so shall you. His grace is sufficient for you, for His strength is made perfect in your weakness. Boast, then, in your infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon you.

I am glad to read your resolution to take words and turn to the Lord, even words of confession and repentance. The husbandman who sows in tears shall doubtless reap in joy. The joy of harvest is the fruit of long patience, of earnest labor, of faith and hope that have been tried. You have been disciplined; the plow has torn deep furrows, and the frost and the mildew have threatened the tender grain. But keep waiting with a sweet grace, anxious, prayerful, submissive. Holiness shall yet be legibly inscribed upon your forefront by the clear shining of the Sun of Righteousness. He shall spread healing from His wings, and the harvest of peaceful righteousness shall follow.

You speak of the tongue, that unruly evil. No man can tame it, but Christ can. The Gospel is never sent to mock you. When you feel most helpless, then look to Him who has all power. The best part of your confession lies not in words alone, but in the practically giving up of everything which Christ would not sanction, and the following hard after whatever He ordains. As you do this, remember that you are brought near by the blood of Christ. Not far off, but nigh, as a guest at His table, fed and sustained by His love.

Go on, then, and look for the joy of harvest. You have sown in tears; you shall reap in joy. Out of weakness you shall be made strong, for it is the Lord’s way. Wait for it with expectation, for the heavenly Husbandman has you in His eye day and night, until the time of the ingathering.

Your prayer breathes a heart truly contrite, and such a sacrifice God will not despise. You have confessed not merely with your lips but with a thorough searching of the soul, acknowledging that the tongue has often been a fire, mixed with emotions that do not achieve the righteousness of God. This is the beginning of healing: to bring the hidden darkness into the light and to call it what it is, sin. But do not stop there, content that you have spoken the words. Confession is the plough that breaks the ground, not the harvest.

The power you seek in weakness is given only to those who do not make weakness a resting-place, but a starting-place for divine strength. You longed to push a button and delete all future stumbling; yet that very button is withheld in wisdom, so that you might learn true reliance on God, and His grace be proven sufficient. When the Apostle pleaded thrice, the thorn remained, but the strength of Christ came to dwell within him. So it will be with you: the stumblings you hate, when brought to Christ, become the occasions for His power to be displayed. Do not despair over the remnants of the old man, but rather boast in them, as Paul did, that the power of Christ may tabernacle upon you.

Yet this boasting is no idle talk. You have rightly set before yourself the goal: to tame the tongue, to be slow to anger, to walk even as Jesus walked. You know that “no man can tame the tongue,” for it is a restless evil. But what is impossible with men is possible with God. The remedy is not a passive waiting, but an active imitation. If you speak words full of gentleness and meekness, even as Christ Himself spoke, when reviled, He blessed; when suffering, He threatened not, then your tongue becomes a tongue imitating the tongue of Christ. And what is more, God says, “He that bringeth out the precious from the vile shall be as my mouth.” This is the labor to which you are called: not merely to abstain from evil speech, but to bring forth from your mouth what is precious, edifying, fit for the moment, that it may give grace to the hearers. When you are provoked, when pain rises, then is the time to speak not the words of the flesh but the words of the Spirit. Think of Him who in His agony prayed, “Father, forgive them.” Will you not, in your small trials, strive after the same?

Remember also that grace does not come upon a man irrespectively, but upon those who desire and take pains for it. The power to become a child of God is given you, but you must keep that image with all zeal, without spot or stain. No one can take it from you except you yourself, by neglect or willful sin. When the surge of anger rises or the impulse to speak unworthily presses in, know that you are standing before a great dignity: in that moment you are the mouthpiece of God or the echo of the old Adam. Choose the better part.

Let your confession bear the fruit of repentance. Humble yourself not only in words but in the daily discipline of the mind, renewing it by the Word, so that when trials come, and they will, being the school of righteousness, you may yield the peaceful fruit of righteousness. The husbandman does not plow once and expect the harvest; so you must continually turn the soil of your heart. Be of good courage: He who began a good work in you will complete it. He stretches out His hands all the day to you, not to accuse, but to receive and strengthen. Only do not be a gainsaying child. Run to Him in every stumble, and let your weakness drive you deeper into His grace, not away from it. For when you are weak, then you are strong.

Your words carry the weight of a soul that has wrestled hard with sin, and that kind of honest pouring out before the Lord is not something He despises. When you confess that you are a person of unclean lips, you stand in good company with Isaiah and Peter, men who saw themselves clearly in the light of God’s holiness and found mercy. The very fact that you grieve over what has come from your mouth, that you long to push a button and be done with every future stumble, shows the Spirit’s work in you. He does not leave you in despair; He brings you to the cross.

You are right that no human effort can tame the tongue. James says it plainly: the tongue is a restless evil, full of deadly poison, and no one can tame it. But what is impossible with man is possible with God. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in you to bring every thought and every word into captivity. Your weakness is not a barrier to His strength; it is the very canvas on which He paints His grace. When you are weak, then you are strong, because the power of Christ rests on you. That means every time you feel the sting of failure, you have fresh ground to boast in His sufficiency.

The harm your words have caused you feel deeply, and that sorrow is not meant to crush you but to turn you away from the fire that sets the tongue ablaze. The tongue holds the power of life and death. You know it can wound, but now you are learning to let it heal. God does not call you to a life of mere regret but to a harvest of righteousness and peace, which comes as you submit to His discipline. The affliction you have known was not wasted; it has taught you His commands and is yielding the quiet fruit of a steadfast spirit.

Walk forward with lowliness and meekness, with patience toward yourself and others. Forbear in love. The Spirit does not drive you into shame but into the arms of the One who has already spoken gracious and comforting words over you. Keep bringing your honest fears and confessions to the light, just as you have done here. Stand on His promise: when we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive and to cleanse us from everything that defiles. The goal is not to perfect yourself in your own strength but to abide in Christ, letting His words dwell in you richly, so that what comes out of your mouth builds up and imparts grace to those who hear.

Your prayer is heard. The Lord likes you to take Him at His word. He will supply all you need according to His riches in glory. Rest in the truth that the same God who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion. You are not alone in the struggle, and you are not beyond the reach of His power. He who ascended first descended to the lowest parts to set captives free, and that freedom reaches into the deepest ruts of the tongue and the heart. Trust Him for it; He is the only one found worthy to receive power and glory and blessing, and He gives that life to you.
