"While Confessing My Sins and The Sins of My Nation," Dan 9:20, "If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land," 2 Chron 7:14... Father, thank You for giving mercy and grace in times of need, Heb 4:16, past and now in present. Though we may yet need grace to confess in the future, we rather prefer to be done with all future sin, and were there a button to push representing that ability to delete all future sin prior to their occurring, we'd gladly press it without delay or hesitation... Yet since no such button exists, and the best of humanity and even Christians are still "humans," we are content with what remedy we have, namely the prescription to humbly confess and forsake them, and promises of not only that we'll find mercy, Prov 28:13, but cleansing from all unrighteousness, 1 Jn 1:9, and even contentment in Your presence, Heb 13:5, and promises of holiness, which we inherit by faith, Heb 4:2, even promises to do no wrong, 2 Cor 13:7, not stumble in what we say and control the whole body, James 3:2, even to walk as Jesus Himself, 1 Jn 2:6, 1 Jn 4:17. We continue the remedy of our misuse of the instrument of the tongue we were given to glorify God and edify others, in confession and repentance, for sanctification both a one-time act and an ongoing work of participation with the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, Matt 3:8, Phil 2:12-13, 1 Tim 4:16, so we agree with Your admonition to confess our sins to one another and pray for each other that we may be healed, James 5:16 -- maybe that's how through boasting in our weaknesses 2 Cor 12:9 by faith from weaknesses we are made strong, Heb 11:32-34. So in obedience to Your teaching through Hosea, we, "Take words with you, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, 'Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips as bulls" Hos 14:2.

Lord, I've missed Your warnings, not hearkened to Your Voice, Missed Your Spirit's leading, haven't taken the way of escape in every occurrence, 1 Cor 10:13... I've dealt with things unrighteously, sinned and fallen short of Your glorious image, Rom 3:23, Gen 1:27, Matt 5:48, Eph 5:1. I've lacked love, have gotten "in the flesh," have said and typed things in with a mixture of emotions, even in anger, that even while true have either lacked love or forgotten the foundation of equality for the sake of Christ, Eph 5:21, maybe both or all of the following: I have done things mixed with pride and empty conceit, and in times of pain have said, spoken, typed, forwarded and done things to further my own interests or unrighteous emotions, rather than considering the interests of others, and lacked the attitude of Christ's humility that prefers my neighbor's advantage, and forgotten to treat others as more important than myself, Phil 2:3-5. Such actions and attitudes that display such mixture tainted with the anger of man do not achieve the righteousness of God, James 1:19-20. Therefore, not using my bodily members as instruments of righteousness consistently, I've been a man of unclean lips, Isa 6:5.

Since our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them, transgressing and denying Yahweh, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood, Isa 59:12-13, at time, "Surely I have spoken of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know, therefore I despise my sins, and I repent from them in dust and ashes," Job 42:3, Job 42:6. Yet though You've disciplined me severely, You haven't given me over to death, Ps 118:18. I can say with the Psalmist, "It was good for me to be afflicted that I might learn the way of Your Commands," Ps 119:71. Let me make the most of Your discipline, knowing it's end result has many ends in mind, sanctification being a chief one, Even Jesus being the author, ἀρχηγὸν, ultimate architect, pioneer and engineer of our salvation, perfected through suffering, Heb 2:10, on earth and in flesh, the proving ground of obedience, becoming the ultimate fountain of salvation, Heb 5:8-9. Surely, there is One found Worthy, Rev 5:9.

Though beyond human capacity to bear at times tribulation transfers every drop of hope to You alone who raise the dead, 2 Cor 1:8-9, produces patience leading to maturity that we may also be complete, James 1:2-3, and though not pleasant at present, afterward yields not only perseverance, proven character but an abiding hope that does not disappoint, even granting assurance through The Holy Spirit of Adoption, Rom 5:3-5. May trials yield a harvest of peaceful fruit and righteousness, Heb 12:11, even an everlasting quietness and confidence, Isa 32:17, an everlasting crown of life, James 1:12, and ability to reign with You, as You overcame and reign in truth, humility and justice, Ps 45:4, Rev 3:19-21, Rev 21:7. We ask for grace to renew our minds, Rom 12:2, to rejoice in all these things knowing we are presently blessed and understanding their end is eternal reward, Matt 5:10-12, and that Your Intention is to work it all together for good, Rom 8:28, because You are indeed Gracious and Compassionate, Ex 34:4-5, as we see You were with Job, James 1:12. Let us pray for others and others pray for us knowing You have brought us through trials before, You will do so again, and that prayers are powerful and effective, 2 Cor 1:10-11, especially when we confess our struggles and sins to one another and pray for each other, Your promise is the prayers are powerful and effective, James 5:15-16, even as Elijah's, James 5:17-18... We come before You, Father, with hearts laid bare, acknowledging the weight of our words and the power they hold, both to build up and to tear down. Your Word declares, "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned" (Matthew 12:37). We confess that our tongues, though small, have often been unruly, speaking in haste, anger, or pride, rather than in love, truth, and humility. The apostle James warns us that "the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity... set on fire by hell" (James 3:6). Yet we also know that with You, even the wildest flames can be tamed, and what was meant for harm can be turned to good.

You have shown us that power is perfected in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9), and that through faith, even the weakest among us can be made strong (Hebrews 11:34). We embrace this truth, Lord, for we are weak, but You are strong. Our trials, though painful, are not without purpose, they produce endurance, character, and hope (Romans 5:3-4), and ultimately, a harvest of righteousness (Hebrews 12:11). We thank You for Your discipline, for it is proof of Your love (Hebrews 12:6), and we ask for grace to endure it with joy, knowing that You are refining us like gold.

We repent of the times we have spoken out of turn, with impure motives, or in ways that did not reflect the humility and love of Christ. "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear" (Ephesians 4:29). Forgive us, Lord, for the times we have used our words to tear down rather than to heal, to divide rather than to unite. We ask that You would set a guard over our mouths and keep watch over the door of our lips (Psalm 141:3), that we may speak only what is pleasing to You.

We also confess the sins of our nation, for we know that "if My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land" (2 Chronicles 7:14). We humble ourselves before You now, seeking Your face and turning from our wicked ways. Heal our land, Lord, and restore us to righteousness.

We are grateful for Your promise that if we confess our sins, You are faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We claim this promise now, trusting in Your mercy and grace. We also thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit, who helps us in our weakness and intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words (Romans 8:26). Strengthen us, Lord, to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which we have been called, with all humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another in love (Ephesians 4:1-2).

We pray for one another, that we may be healed and restored (James 5:16). Let us encourage one another daily, as long as it is called "today," so that none of us may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness (Hebrews 3:13). May we speak gracious and comforting words, as You do (Zechariah 1:13), and may our conversations be seasoned with salt, so that we may know how to answer everyone (Colossians 4:6).

Lord, we surrender our tongues, our hearts, and our lives to You. Fill us with Your Spirit, that we may speak and act in ways that bring glory to Your name. Help us to tame our tongues, to control our tempers, and to walk in the love and humility of Christ. May our words be a reflection of Your grace, and may they bring life and healing to those around us.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only Name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), the One who is our Mediator and Redeemer (1 Timothy 2:5). It is through Him that we have access to You, Father, and it is by His blood that we are cleansed from all sin. We pray that You would continue to work in us, both to will and to do of Your good pleasure (Philippians 2:13), and that we may be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2).

We trust in Your promises, Lord, and we rest in Your unfailing love. Thank You for Your grace, which is sufficient for us, and for Your power, which is made perfect in our weakness. May we boast in our weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon us (2 Corinthians 12:9). We love You, Lord, and we commit ourselves to You afresh today. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We’re sitting with you in the weight of this, and we’re grateful for how honestly you’ve laid it all out. The grief over words that came out sideways, typed or spoken, in anger or under pressure, mixed with pride, rings familiar. That kind of sorrow is heavy, and we don’t want to rush past it. What stands out is that you’re not just sorry for consequences; you’re aching over the heart posture those words came from. That’s not “worldly sorrow” that just wants relief. That’s the kind of grief that actually does something. It softens. It turns. It’s already turning.

Since you mentioned the tongue and speaking from a mixture of emotions, here’s something we’ve found helpful when the damage is done and the shame is loud. You’re in the aftermath right now, and that’s not just a place to feel awful, it’s a pretty teachable window. When anger or hurt drives your words, those emotions are usually secondary. Underneath them is almost always something more vulnerable: fear, rejection, a boundary you didn’t know you needed. One concrete step that might serve you: when the heat rises next time, get curious before you speak. Not a self-interrogation, but a quiet, honest question: What actually hurts right now? Naming that primary thing, even just to yourself and God, can drain some of the power out of the reactive impulse. This doesn’t fix you in a day, but it’s a way of cooperating with the Spirit in the moment you’re most likely to stumble.

We also hear you wishing there were a button to delete all future sin. We’d press it, too. Since there isn’t, we keep bringing ourselves back to the one who receives imperfect people. The pattern of confession you’re walking, naming it, turning from it, letting others know, really is the road to healing. It’s slow work, but it’s real.

Jesus, thank you that we don’t have to clean ourselves up before we come. For our friend carrying this grief over words and reactions, we ask for a quieter, slower tongue, and for the safety to keep bringing these struggles into the light with people who won’t recoil. Break the cycle of reacting from old wounds. Let the harvest your Word promises actually grow in these painful places: peace, righteousness, a steadier love for others. We trust you to finish what you’ve started here. Amen.

Your awareness of that unruly member, the tongue, is itself a mark of grace, for the natural man boasts of his words and thinks no fault of them. You have written of a button to press to delete all future sin, and yet you wisely confess that no such device exists. But consider this: the very weakness you lament may be the appointed sphere for divine strength. It is often so, that where we think ourselves strongest, there we are most vulnerable; and where we feel our utter poverty, there the treasury of heaven is opened. The Lord does not always remove the thorn; He instead declares, "My grace is sufficient for you." What a wonder that His power should find its lodging place in our confessed impotence!

The repentance that merely terrifies the conscience, like the blaspheming men scorched by judgment, is a repentance unto death. It looks at the wound and despairs. But the repentance that is unto life, the sweet sister of faith, comes from the pierced hand of Christ and brings the soul low even as it lifts the eye high to the cross. You say you have sinned with your lips; then bring those very lips, cleansed by confession, to render the calves of praise. The same mouth that has uttered what is tainted by anger and pride can be taught to speak with the gracious and comforting words of Zechariah’s vision. Do not think that growth in grace means an immediate escape from the battle; it means learning to trust God in the dust of it, so that the impatience of a Job is transformed into the resolute cry, "Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him."

The discipline you now feel, the sharp sorrow for sin, is not pleasant for the present, yet it is the plough of the Great Husbandman opening the soil of your heart for a harvest of peaceful righteousness. When you are made to see your own leanness, your own poverty of love, your own failure to consider others better than yourself, do not sink into a despairing repentance that refuses to be comforted. That is a pride of grief which still looks inward for some native strength. True humility takes the rear rank and marvels that it is in the Lord’s army at all. It confesses its weakness and then, in that very confession, looks away to the Omnipotent name of Jesus, in whom all power slumbers. Your strength will not lie in finally taming your tongue by some inner resolve, but in bringing it, trembling, to the fountain opened for sin and for uncleanness, and receiving grace for grace. Come, then, with your unclean lips, and hear Him say, "I have forgiven thee." In that word is a power which can make the lame walk and the dumb speak praises.

Your words pour out a soul in earnest, a heart that has tasted the bitterness of sin and now seeks the sweetness of grace. The confession you have made is itself a sign that the Spirit has not abandoned you, for no one laments a poisoned tongue unless the great Physician has already begun its healing. Do not despair because you see the depths of your own weakness; rather, let that very sight drive you deeper into the arms of Him who said, “My grace is sufficient for thee, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” When the Apostle begged release from his thorn, the Lord did not take away the affliction but gave strength within it, so that he could even take pleasure in insults, in distresses, in persecutions. So it is with you: the stumblings of the tongue, the mixture of anger with truth, the pride that lurks even in right words, all these are permitted by God to teach you that you are not sufficient in yourself, that you may cease to trust your own carefulness and cling only to His mercy.

Yet take care: the tongue that confesses sin and the tongue that wounds are the same member. Train it strictly, therefore, to speak only what our Master would speak. Our Lord said, “I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.” Let your words be so thoroughly bathed in meekness and love that they carry His own signature. When you are reviled, bless; when you are wronged, pray for the offender. Such speech becomes a hand grasping the very feet of God. And if you fail, as we all do, do not let shame bury your voice. Turn again to confession, not as one who merely recites a list, but as one who renders the calves of the lips, a sacrifice of thanksgiving from a broken heart. Bring forth words that edify, that give grace to the hearers; for this is the sacrifice He will not despise.

Let your prayers likewise be with the understanding, not merely with emotion or with a rush of many Scriptures. The Apostle said that if he prayed in a tongue, his spirit prayed, but his understanding was unfruitful. Strive, then, to pray with a heart fully present, that your petitions may water your own soul even as they ascend. And when you pray for deliverance from the sins of the tongue, do not be astonished if the answer is not immediate removal, but a gradual training through trials. For chastening itself is not pleasant at the time, yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been exercised by it. Learn to thank God both for comfort and for affliction, for the soothing word and for the painful rebuke, knowing that He is forming in you a tongue that can one day speak only healing.

Continue, therefore, to confess your faults one to another, and pray for one another, for the prayer of the righteous has great power. But remember that the power of such prayer rests not on eloquence or on the quantity of verses quoted, but on a humble heart that has learned to say, “It was good for me to be afflicted, that I might learn thy statutes.” Keep your meditation ever on the words of Christ and the lives of His saints, and your tongue will gradually be subdued to His service. Let not the remembrance of past falls cast you down, for the One who has begun this good work in you will carry it on to completion. Only do not grow weary, and do not despise the discipline that love administers. The very fact that you weep over your tongue is the first fruit of your healing; He who has given you to will, will also give you to accomplish, for His strength is made perfect precisely where your own strength ends.
