Pornography addiction

We hear the cry of your heart, and we stand with you in this battle, lifting you up before the throne of grace. The struggle with pornography is a heavy burden, one that ensnares the mind, defiles the soul, and grieves the Holy Spirit. But take heart, your repentance and desire for freedom are evidence of God’s work in you, and where sin abounds, grace abounds much more (Romans 5:20).

First, we must rebuke the lies of the enemy that whisper this sin is too shameful to bring into the light or that you are beyond God’s mercy. Scripture declares, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). Your admission of this struggle is not weakness, it is the first step toward victory. The enemy wants you isolated in shame, but Christ calls you into the light of His love and power.

Pornography is not merely a "bad habit", it is idolatry, a counterfeit intimacy that distorts God’s design for sexuality. The Bible warns, "Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18). This sin corrupts the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) and hardens the heart toward true intimacy with God and others. But the good news is that Christ came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18), and His blood is sufficient to break every chain.

We must also address the root of this addiction. Often, pornography is a misguided attempt to medicate pain, loneliness, stress, past wounds, or unmet desires. But Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). True healing comes not from temporary escapes but from surrendering those burdens to Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what lies you’ve believed (e.g., "I’m unlovable," "This is the only way to cope") and replace them with His truth.

Here are practical steps to walk in freedom:
1. Accountability: Confess this struggle to a trusted, godly brother in Christ (James 5:16). Isolation fuels addiction; transparency brings healing.
2. Radical Measures: Install filters, delete apps, or even give up devices if necessary. Jesus said, "If your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out" (Matthew 18:9), not literally, but as a call to drastic action against sin.
3. Renew Your Mind: Replace the images of lust with Scripture. Memorize verses like "How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word" (Psalm 119:9). Meditate on God’s promises, not the enemy’s temptations.
4. Fasting: Consider fasting from media, food, or other comforts to redirect your hunger toward God. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4).
5. Worship: When temptation comes, turn to praise. The enemy flees when we magnify Christ (James 4:7). Sing hymns, pray in the Spirit, or declare God’s attributes aloud.

We pray over you now in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we are saved and set free (Acts 4:12):

"Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken hearts for our brother, who is ensnared by the chains of pornography. Lord, we thank You that he has come to You in repentance, for You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We rebuke the spirit of lust and addiction in Jesus’ name, let it be broken now by the power of Your cross! Father, flood his mind with Your truth and his heart with Your love. Where shame has whispered lies, let Your voice thunder, 'You are My beloved son, in whom I am well pleased' (Matthew 3:17).

Lord, we ask for a fresh infilling of Your Holy Spirit to empower him to resist temptation. Lead him to godly accountability and surround him with brothers who will sharpen him (Proverbs 27:17). Give him the strength to take radical steps to flee from this sin, and replace every void with Your presence. Let him hunger and thirst for righteousness, knowing that he will be filled (Matthew 5:6).

We declare that no weapon formed against him will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and that the same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in him (Romans 8:11). May he walk in the freedom Christ died to give, and may his testimony bring glory to Your name. We pray this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Deliverer. Amen."

Remember, beloved: this battle is not yours alone. The Lord goes before you (Deuteronomy 31:8), and He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all you ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Every time you choose to turn away from sin and toward Christ, you are weakening the enemy’s grip. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not faint (Galatians 6:9).

You are not defined by your struggles but by the One who calls you His own. Keep fighting, keep praying, and keep pressing into Jesus. He is your victory!

We hear the agony in your words, and we’re not strangers to that kind of fight. So many of us know what it’s like to feel trapped by something that promises relief but leaves us emptier than before, convinced our soul is withering. You’ve named it honestly: this is killing your soul. And in that raw confession, you’re not alone, even the apostle Paul cried out about the war inside him. Jesus hears your desperate “Help me.”

It might feel like you’ve backslid into a place where hope is thin, but God isn’t looking away. Addiction thrives in isolation and shame, so one of the bravest things you can do right now is step into the light with someone safe. Is there a mature Christian you trust, a pastor, a small group leader, or a friend who won’t flinch, that you could call today? Just saying, “I’m struggling with pornography and I need to know someone is praying and checking on me,” can loosen its grip. Many churches also host groups like Celebrate Recovery or other Christ-centered 12-step communities where you’ll find men and women who get it and are walking out real freedom. If the pull feels unmanageable and the cycle keeps repeating, a Christian counselor who understands sexual addiction could be life-giving, not because you’re beyond God’s help, but because sometimes we need trained guidance to unwire old patterns and heal what’s underneath.

Meanwhile, consider a simple practical barrier: install accountability software on your devices and give the reports to someone you respect. It’s not a cure, but it can buy you a pause when temptation hits, a pause in which you can cry out to Jesus before the act.

We’re praying with you now:

Jesus, we come with our brother who feels his soul being drained by this addiction. He’s cried out to You for rescue, meet him in that desperation. Break the cycle of shame and compulsion that leaves him double-minded. Surround him with allies who will fight alongside him, and give him courage to reach out today. In the depths where he feels most unmanageable, flood him with the truth that Your grace is deeper still. Restore his hope and plant a stubborn expectation that purity is possible through You. We ask this in Your mighty name, Jesus. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thou art indeed in a sore plight, and thy cry telleth me the bones of thy soul are broken. The marrow of thy peace is drained, and thou art brought low into the pit of despair. Yet it is from this very pit that the Deliverer is wont to draw His own. The bones which thou hast broken may yet rejoice, but only if thou dost look away from thyself to Him whose own heart was broken for sinners.

This sin is a breach in the wall of thy soul; the enemy hath come in like a flood. Thy resolutions have snapped like a rotten column, yea, the very chain of thy hopes is melted. Thou seest what thou art: a bankrupt, cleaned right out. That is right where grace meets thee. The Lord Jesus came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. He hath found a ransom; the price is paid. Deliverance can come only through the lamb that was slain.

But soul, bethink thee how many have died whilst saying, "I intend to be better by-and-bye." Make no demur about it. Thy sin is killing thy soul, and delay is the devil’s own anodyne. Flee now to the Healer of broken hearts, for He knoweth exactly where the malady lies and what remedy to apply. Dost thou think He cannot save thee because the sin is so foul? Did He not deliver Israel from Egypt with a high hand? He can bring thee forth from this cruel bondage.

Peace can only be spoken by God Himself. Ministers cannot give it; I have often failed. But if God breathes peace into thy soul, the foulest winds of hell cannot blow it from thee. Thy very desolation is a hopeful sign, for the Spirit breaketh whom He meaneth to bind up. Lie at the cross-foot, and say with the psalmist, "My soul, wait thou only upon God, for my expectation is from him." He will yet cause thee to sing songs of deliverance, and the soft music of broken bones shall give place to the gladness of a ransomed spirit.
